Curious what rest were you using? You say it was limb driven but it looks like (by the looks of the launcher) it was a QAD which is cable driven. Just curious.

if i had to guess, your nock blew up causing the chain reaction to everything happening. when the nock breaks on the shot it’s almost like a dry fire where the transfer of the bows energy doesn’t get transferred to arrow completely causing the derailment. as far as the arrow breaking it’s probably cause you have a cable driven rest that didn’t drop on the shot and because the nock breaks on the shot the arrow will flex in a weird direction hitting the prongs causing the arrow to break. don’t know where you were shooting but if you don’t have the nock end of your arrow i would try and look for it. if you have it or find it, see if your nock is still intact and you might have a better idea of what happened.

I think you are right. It sounded like a dry fire, either something with the arrow broke or it wasn't knocked all the way. I don't know why people want to come up with anything but them making a mistake, it happens to the best of us. I've seen pro shooters forget to put an arrow in altogether.

Another heads up with limb driven rest is they have to be timed so this same thing could happen again if it’s out of time. I hunted last season with an epsilon and had a lot of timing issues where my vanes hit my blade on the way out. I’m going back to cable driven this up coming season and the epsilon is going on my target bow.

They should replace it with no questions asked. They usually stand behind their shit. I mean, i know they dont 1000 dry shot every single bow, but every batch, they pick one or two. I just went back to hoyt because you can beat the shit out of them. My 100+lb apa limb cracked after like 500 shots, they sent me another one, and owner is super nice. But lost my confidence in bringing that bow to alaska in sept. Freak accidents happen with everything but hoyt should do you right. If they dont reach out and I'll have my shop call their dealer for you.

@drewolm

Hype? What hype? Ive used limb driven for twenty years and never a single failure. Trying to piece together what he’s saying, he is saying the “tech” put a limb driven rest cable through a control cable. If that’s the case the rest has nothing to do with this, it’s the set up. That said, if what he is saying is accurate I don’t think the rest would have functioned correctly to begin with. Hard to tell from the vide but looks like it’s a cable driven brand of rest. That would mean the cable wasn’t tied in properly. Either way, it’s not the rest, it’s how the rest was set up.

I'd say it was your nock, causing the event ie "dry firing" as you can see the nock fly past the bow as it all comes apart!! the rest explanation sounds "sorry to say it" dumb as old biscuits!! your rest fails, ok.... so your rest is lightly locked upright & your arrow will pass through, possibly damaging the fletching's & fly off target.... nothing else OR the rest drops down as its not under tension due to teh string being detached from your limbs "you didn't notice???" either way the rest/string failure sounds like an installer or user error when installing & teh bow blowing up again sounds like user error above anything else again so Hoyt wouldn't cover such as a warranty job, its user error that's caused the accident. as I find it very interesting your covering the nock point up with your hand as your holding the broken arrow. the comment regarding the bow expanding & hitting the branches, well 1st you shouldn't have anything near the strings ie it should be clear... anyway, chances are the only thing that's hit the branches above or near by would be the remaining parts of the nock as it disintegrated, the arrow clearly hit your scope side ways hence it splitting in half..... as again, a fault with your rest wouldn't result in a dry fire.. your arrow will still go-off just not where you aimed regarding the I've saved & built the bow "accessorised it" well it sounds like you've bought out of your real budget, because you wanted what everyone else is using or has said is very good etc anyway the vast majority of all these accessories you can reuse... on a new bow, but buy a bow in your real budget range. anyway, you really need to get into the habit of checking your nocks after each & every collection from a target & on your 1st shot of the day. I go to the range with 12 arrows I'll shoot any of those arrows.. as for loosing arrows "I've yet to loose a single one!" I've gone to the range & had 24 arrows in my quiver, its irrelevant, you go ready for events, you taking x4 arrows, well your not prepared for anything.... "in every day terms, that's poor planning"
@malp6280
@malp6280 3 ай бұрын
anyway, your remaining last comments you even sound inexperienced... if you don't know how to work on your bow, you cant blame shops for poor workmanship, as don't forget nothing stopped you from going back in & pointing out something missed or poor standards etc, this literally is inexperience & negligence, regarding to you being skinny "build has nothing to do with what bow or poundage you can pull" 80lbs is just OTT & nothing but pointless

you know stuff happens for sure, however one major part of archery is always checking your strings every single one of them and also always wax every single string every time before shooting also always inspect all connections as well make sure they are snug like they should be.. as for your hoyt bow well they cost alot of money i agree and you should have what you want i agree however iam not a hoyt fan not because the cost alot i cant afford them and i so far dont even see anything that i like.. personally i love PSE as my number one choice affordable accurate and just dont die you need the tools to get the job done bottom line. its more the shooter then the bow the bow in it self is not accurate at all it takes the shooter and all the right other parts to goto together and alot of practice as well. while your bow is out getting what ever done to it perhaps pickup a cheaper PSE to keep shooting in the meantime or even check out pawn shops for good deals as well. we have 5 pawn shop bows in the house right now older but proven reliable and 3 of them are pse bows i paid 200.00 for 1 150 the other and 160 the other and these are all compound ones and i got i have 2 recurves 1 pse nighthawk for 175.00 totally kitted up and a centerpoint recurve i traded 2 chromebooks and 50 bucks for al are in great shape.. so my most recent is a brand new 68 inch recurve comp bow paid 109.99 new on amazon .. i shoot mostly chinese arrows and some eastons the chineess ones are half the price and shoot perfect .. ok so in the end here its not the dam bow its the guy or girl that shooting it .. its nice to have expensive stuff but that does not mean anything and it does not make it better ,, it does get you into. the clubs will say you know what i mean

The arrow /arrow rest situation wouldn't normally derail the bow, something else must have been going on. Lots of possibilities for failure. Limb going bad finally let go, to much grip torque, worn out nocks from lots of shooting, that tiny leaf getting between the string and cam, bad tune/to much cam lean.. Sometimes its a perfect storm of all of them, either way Hoyt would probably get you right if you go thru their dealer. Your rest not dropping is definitely a issue though, just doubt it caused the failure. Id put money on the nock being cracked or worn out from shooting, then id suspect the arrow. Hoyt's are pretty tough, so hopefully you just need strings and cables. Best part is, your not injured.

@@ElevateHNTIf your able to, can you check your nock fit at full draw on a draw board? I know it sounds unlikely as well but ive seen it happen many times, where there is enough nock pinch at full draw to unseat the nock just a bit. Especially if you switched nock brands and/or arrow diameter. Even drawing the bow by the d loop with no arrow can close up the gap enough for a problem to start. Hopefully that's somewhat helpful in narrowing the issues down.

Great vid. If you have shot a bow long enough, you will have a bow blow up in your hand - its just a matter of time! There are so many factors and this machine is a grenade in your hand and its a matter of time that something gets out of tune i.e. rest, etc. I had a bow blow up in my hand during a shot because the string failed. It was string that only a year old - no reason for that string to break. Now, your Hoyt is a GREAT bow! They test this things with draw firing, etc., now, with that said, you don't want to draw fire a bow. but the good thing is this bow was loaded properly, with an arrow nocked, etc. You are already doing this I'm sure, but have Hoyt or your local shop inspect the limbs, riser, etc. I think you will be ok --- Hoyt is a great bow and they can put up with a lot of abuse. Keep up the content --- I look forward to a follow up vid. The great blessing here is, you were not hurt in the process!

We as the community got to stick together. And grow And that’s what I’m trying to do with my channel. And build the outdoors community. I just recently found your channel before your bow but I look forward to the content to come good luck congrats on 400subs. ( And I will do )

@@ElevateHNT That would be epic! I have been using my local shop since 2009 and its just time for me to get my own set up, so I know everything is done correctly. And if something goes wrong I can only blame myself.

Losing arrows on a 3D course isn’t the only way you go threw arrows. Last 3D I shot I was down 2 arrows after the first 3 targets with broken nocks or a ripped vane.

My son had a similar failure a week ago. The arrow blew up when coming off the bow, and caused the cables to jump off the cams. We're still not sure what caused the arrow to break (it broke clean, a quarter inch in front of the fletchings), but it couldn't be the rest failing to drop, as it was a whisker biscuit. Our theory was that maybe he didn't nock the arrow well, but that's just a guess. Luckily nobody was hurt, and the bow wasn't damaged.

Look at pawn shops for a second and even a third bow. They are hard to value so pawn shops tend to your on them. I picked up a loaded VXR back in January for $500 out the door. It replaced my Cabela's PSE from the year before. Now I have a back up.

sounds like a nock broke which is a dry fire really just cause the rest failed that would not cause a derail nor make the arrow go into the rest like that not at 80 pounds that arrow is gonna go through the rest forks and veer off from there imo.. ive seen many bows dry fired of all brands and be fine but they where low poundage.

Have you ever thought about switching brands? There’s two brands I know that would cover that under warranty & swap you out if they couldn’t fix it / didn’t feel it was safe.

@@ElevateHNT Mathew’s for sure Guy dry fired a bow at the pro shop & they were gonna do a cam replacement because they were bent or a full bow swap on the new lift. PSE will to , assuming you’re the original owner from the context stated there would be some proof of purchase or registration they can verify as well it wouldn’t be a hassle what’s so ever

I have a Hoyt an older one at that and can't say I ever experienced anything like that , but Hoyt is a very reputable company and they should take care of you. Have you ever considered getting into traditional archery ?? None of that mechanical stuff to worry about , I made the switch about 5 years ago and make no mistake about it you have to practice a lot and be dedicated to it for sure , but it is extremely rewarding.Good luck with your bow situation.

You should try to contact with Hoyt and see if they will warranty your bow Matthews replaced mine when I had a major malfunction . Also just by experience try to shoot more than one arrow because that nock will wear out and sometimes brake as soon as the boat goes off
