Been archery hunting since 2014ish and dont torque the bow too terribly really, can get a good paper tear when everything is in spec…but just from this video when you explained to hold your hand out and relax it…i think sometimes i do tend to shoot with unnecessary added heel pressure to the grip/riser so even for experienced archers this can deff be a good refresher and explained very well🫡

Excellent and thorough explanation of the process and the importance of the grip on the bow 🏹. I will have to pay more attention to all the components of my process because once I get past 20 yards I am not consistent on target 🎯

I've never suffered from target panic or derailed a string but am always interested in learning and improving which is why I always return to your channel (and subscribed a long time ago). You do a superb job communicating your knowledge. I got my first Mathews in 2000 (a Q2) so I can relate to your comments about that wood grip. I had no complaints at the time and shot that thing very well but thanks to you I'm going to grip my current bow (a V3X) a bit differently. I have a feeling I will find some improvement. As so many others have already commented, excellent video. Thank you.

Where the heck was this video TWO YEARS AGO?!? I just spent two years after buying a new 2022 vtm finding out my front hand open vs closed problem. It was a nightmare!! Almost sold everything and started over but figured it out about 3 weeks ago. Going from a 2008 75% let off bow to 85% 2022 bow is night and day. Broadheads hitting with field points and dead center out to 40. FINALLY!!

Hey Brother. This was a great video. Thank you for being so thorough. Up until a couple years ago, I was a peeker. And I had all four of my fingers on the front of my bow for the longest time. I now make sure that I lightly curl my last 2 fingers back to the side of the riser. That forces my hand to be close to the optimal grip.

Psoriasis - Hi bud, I have skin issues as well.. Mine is clearing up, as I have found, most skin issues is due to a gut issue. I found out I had parasites.. I took a GI-Map... Now my supposedly, incurable issue is going away without constant need of steroidal meds etc. Fixing your gut to heal your body, is equivalent to fixing your grip to fix arrow flight.. Cheers my friend, and thanks for the vid.. Im working on my grip extensively this year before I even try to tune my new SS34.. lol.

You can also do that by relaxing the hand so say you put your three fingers on your thumb button you come to full draw you good at good rap on it if you just relax your fingers a little bit as you're pulling it will allow the release to move forward into your thumb I like that shot too

Fantastic video.. one problem I am facing is nock high due to grip. On my Bowtech BTX31 I find that slight pressure on heel of palm gives slight nock high.. I have no issues with side torque.. but am trying to decide if I should keep pressure on heel and tune nock high out (bow is currently hitting cable stops in synch) or adjust pressure on heel..

Off topic but a topic I've never seen this covered: I build my arrows from bare shafts. This includes, obviously, fletching them. How do i know what length vane, or what offset degree vanes should be? Is there at least a general rule of thumb to go by? I have recently run into issues with getting broadheads to fly consistently out of my hunting bow and what i have found was i needed to switch from 2.25" 4 fletch vanes to 3" 4 fletch to fix the arrow flight consistency. I have always run 2 degree offset on my target set ups and that followed into my hunting set up. Maybe i would have been better off with more off set versus longer vanes? I do have a 32" draw length, and because of this i get some pretty healthy speeds. I believe this is adding to my frustration of arrow consistency as well requiring more vane surface area or maybe off set more would be a better fix. Anyway, just a topic i have not come across being covered.

Excellent info. Sometimes if I am at full draw for a long time, my palm slides from the bottom mid part of the grip to near the top of the grip. Would that make a difference so long as I am not torquing the grip? Also grip is just one part of archery form. You would do a very good job with explaining other aspects of archery form in future videos if you have not already done so.

I've spent hours tinkering with form and grip shooting bareshaft through paper and the only way I get a bullet hole is by applying light to moderate pressure to my thumb, like it's squeezing the grip. If I don't I get a knock right tear. Right handed shooting an old hoyt razortec xt2000

@@carlwydrzynski3578 I use the grip Nate shows but with my thumb pointed mostly straight forward I apply pressure with my thumb to right side of grip. Seems like I am slightly torqueing bow, pointing the stabilizer left. It is very repeatable but i don't think this is recommended and was hoping someone would correct me . I tried all combinations of a rows,weights,spines, yoke adjustments, timing adjustments, rest adjustments, and adjusting my grip is how I corrected endless nock right tear

I like the big muscle thoughts thats cool. My question is if the nice chunky grips helped, why did we get rid of them? I still shoot one of the older bows and have never liked the narrow grip feel.
@averagejackarchery
@averagejackarchery 2 ай бұрын
Great question! The biggest answer is hand size. If you're too small, or too big in the hand for the grip, it can cause inconsistencies in the shooting experience that the manufacturer wouldn't want. Also, they were built off of those shooting recurves and traditional bows, making shooting a compound originally much more appealing as people switched from trad to compound. That's not as necessary anymore with.

Grip AND people punching those wrist band trigger releases are the two WORST things you can do. Why people buy those barrel or tube type releases that will not in nearly every case shorten enough to properly set themselves up to be a better archer. IMO, any bow shop that will sell and improperly set up a customer to have to use their fingertip to slap or punch a trigger needs to close up.
