There's a place in Houston called Wolfsmiths Heights that's kinda like what you're talking about. They're a coffee shop/custom builder shop where you can see them working on projects, doing repairs, and get coffee and tacos. I don't know how lucrative it is but they seem to be doing well.

@@BrandonBicasso If you come across something that is unique and is actually profitable, then you forget about it not fitting your area, you brand Bicasso's Bike Shops, get a few up and running, sell the franchise to some venture capitalist for a few million. Then you can enclose your garage, add heat, air and plumbing and just fiddle around with tire changing and doing brakes for buddies and drinking coffee.

There is a guy not far from me. He has a small shop mostly for fun, but a couple nights a week he changes and balances tires. $50 a wheel just to fund his fun stuff. That's a great deal. He started saving tires that are in good shape to resell for a few $$. They burn up a lot of tires here in Baltimore. Used tires are donated to a local MMA gym. They cut them up for fighting dummys. I love your vision. There are a few areas that have community garages. Good luck my friend. I'll keep watching.

Some of these questions are really resonating with me and the hurdle for me has been a lack of knowledge on business insurance. How much, what kind and from where? I reached out to an agent and said I am considering starting a shop and becoming fully self employed if it goes well so some if any health insurance options could also come into play. The agent was helpful in that they sent me back a list of questions. Many of which I haven’t even asked myself. Things like how much do you expect the bike or bikes you’ll be working on the be valued at incase of accidental damage? How much are your tools worth? Will you be towing? Will you work from your location or will you also do work on other peoples property like a mobile mechanic? The other questions were more related to health insurance such as your estimated income, which also starts to knock on the questions of accounting and finding a good CPA. I realize that may have raised more questions than answers, but it was helpful to me to even know what questions I need to ask myself before approaching the professional insurance and tax people. Love the channel! Hope there’s a community shop to visit one day.

Especially people who don’t have the space or the lifts for their bikes. Or even just for the expertise where say if I was working on my bike but I had a question I could just go to the garage owner for help. Question is how would you implement it. After a few minutes of research I got back with the customer. "Yes sir, we just put it in 2 years ago and I'm pretty sure there wasn't a piece of wood stuck though it at that time". Having a commercial space costs a lot more than the rent…. You need business insurance, commercial power is a lot more expensive than residential, and then commercial internet, etc. It gets expensive fast. I have had multiple commercial spaces over the years for different reasons. It’s expensive. Take a listen to the Motorcycles and Misfits - re-cycle garage. They are in Santa Cruz, and have a space that’s not open 7 days a week. I think they are a nonprofit, which opens up different ways to finance it.

IMO, no to the hang out space. Once people come you will never have your space back. No to doing customers bikes. Most people are a liability when it comes to bikes. Sit down and think of one product or one something you can reproduce that will bring enough money in to cover the space you want. Then, you can continue with the style you are currently doing and enjoying. You seem like a guy that enjoys his peace, I would protect that over trying to bring in the masses to just chill. I suggest before you go to any step further to really write down a mission plan to know exactly what you are trying to build. Just my 1 scent.
