My grandpa was in the service and always wore long sleeve shirts. He was tatted up, one time I saw him moving from the shower to his room and caught that anchor on his forearm. I asked him about it and he just laughed and said, it doesn’t mean much if you’re in the navy usually but since I’m in the army me and my friends got it for our own reason. Whenever we thought we had enough, where we were at the end of our rope, were ready to drop the anchor so to speak and stop right where we were, we got this tattoo. We got it at our lowest point, because its a reminder that no matter how hard you wanna give up and stop the ship will keep going as long as you allow it. You gotta hold on to that anchor, there’s a lot of people that count on you to keep on going. And because the second you let go of that anchor you know it’s over. Anyways, just thought I’d share. I miss you grandpa. Think of you everyday

At the same time though a lot of people ask tattooed people what the meaning behind it is, so I think some people overcompensate and try and force deep meanings and stories behind something they likely just wanted because they like how it looks. As long as you love your tattoo, who cares.

It creates a stigma, your putting a permanent tattoo on your body that will be there till you rot away. Putting things that just look cool is sure....okay I guess, but won't get respect compared to the dudes who made a tattoo for his dead Gangmember, or a brother at arms. Tattoos are there to remind you of the whatever why you have it on. Like a ring will remind you of your wife.
@Corkinee Жыл бұрын
@@lordlopikong6940yeah exactly, you have to live in your body until you rot so If you want to decorate it with stuff purely because you like how it looks there is nothing wrong with that. People don’t have to justify their tattoos to other people, or have to convince them that the meaning is valid enough. Tattoos have had stigma well before us, judgemental people that can’t mind their own bodies will always exist.
@sahira1245 Жыл бұрын
But I wouldn't rate a general interest in the meaning as bad. I know a guy, who has tattooed his dead father's signature. Thats some deep meaning for me and very personal. If I actively make the world worse, then I am not making the world better. This isn't a difficult concept to understand. The current generations are focusing on all of the wrong things because they have been lied to from every direction. Thus, they are ineffectual (which is precisely why they are being lied to) "For if men are to be precluded from offering their sentiments on a matter, which may involve the most serious and alarming consequences, that can invite the consideration of mankind, reason is of no use to us; the Freedom of Speech may be taken away, and, dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep, to the slaughter." ~ George Washington You say it's not someone's fault, but if you refuse to think, then that refusal is your fault. As a 57 year old Senior GEN X'er, it WAS the baby boomers and the Silent generation that dropped the ball. They spent their 20's in the 1960's and were the WORST parents ever.

@Tiffany Roberts I mean, it's incredibly bold of you to assume that gen Z is in any way safe from that. Facebook and Twitter rolled around during many of our formative years. If you've talked to a high schooler or young adult recently, we're all at least partially affected by the incoherent memes and extremist political views that we've latched onto in an effort to form a group identity because Gen Z, at the very least I do, struggles with being an individual. We shape our personalities with brands and titles rather than hobbies.

eventually we will reach a point where gen z says the same things about the next generation, and so on. nothing truly has changed about humans except the environment. fundamentally, every generation will think themselves to be the greatest and the next to be a meager imitation of themselves. once the last person of that generation dies, you realise it really doesn’t matter in the end.
@itachiuchiha-ex2lg Жыл бұрын
That’s a gem z thing to say. Truth is back in the 20s and 50s all the way up to the 70s people used to look to the future generations as hope and held on to conservative values on the home and family for the sole purpose of benefiting the next generation. Gen z and the millennials care only for there own tiny little existence over all. That introspective self aggrandizing garbage they preach to each other in the infernal echo chambers of the internet like Reddit and twitter will lead to the futures destruction.

To be fair i dont think thats exactly true. I agree with about 90% thpugh. Theres no doubt that every generation will think the next one is worse, but as a millenial im very aware my generation was the one when things began to take a turn for the worst and I can admit that lol. In my eyes millenials are when a society is sliding down the cliff, gen z is society hanging off the cliff, and whatever comes after has fell off entirely and is nearing the Marianas trench 😂.
@raedentan1349 Жыл бұрын
@@raymondjones7423 I believe you can't exactly place all the blame on, say, Gen Z, because they didn't raise themselves when they were kids. Similarly, the generation which Gen Z parents will undoubtedly be even worse, but you can't say it's only them that's the problem, the parents are as well.
@inkyeo Жыл бұрын
@@raymondjones7423 i can definitely see where you're coming from. i do want to propose a question though; when you say take a turn for the worse, in what way do you mean by that? i believe that the general behaviours and lifestyle of any generation is moulded by the environment created by the few generations that came before them. gen z is a product of the generations that preceeded them, and if gen z is the definitive turning point in humanity in which the advancement of civilisation and society stops, then i'd argue the responsibility lies with the people who shaped the environment in which the new generation grew up in. at the same time, i also think it's too early to say anything definitive about the recent generations, as i do believe that we are currently at a point in human advancement which we have never observed before throughout history. perhaps this new era of technology will not change much regarding the progression of humanity throughout the coming generations. perhaps this new technology will be the beginning of the end for humanity. i don't know.

My Dad was never in the military, but his upper arms were artscapes. One had a king on a throne with his family crest and a sword through the head of a dragon, and the other was a gate to hell guarded by a minotaur with a woman on a chain. All of it had meaning. It was also hella intimidating when you realize the king and throne were 8 inches high, 5 inches across, and were flat against the outside of one arm, easily seen on one face.

Don't worry! Genuinely, I have no idea how stupid people are to still find jokes about "the young generation" being the worst. The only way to find these "jokes" funny is by believing that truly, the next generation is the worst, which just shows a complete lack of knowledge about the fact that EVERY SINGLE generation says that about the next.
@HaydenLau. Жыл бұрын
@@nanchou7139 If our generation is truly the worst, it's either because there is something fundamentally, genetically different about us, or it's because the previous generation raised us poorly. We're all just born humans, and we're moulded by our upbringings. And who is responsible for our upbringing? Boomers. So if we are truly the worst generation then it's the boomer's fault.
