We can’t cater to dumb-dumbs who don’t understand worldwide inflation, the economy, authoritarianism, or white nationalism who also expect people to cater the message directly to them. Democracy is incumbent of us all to research candidates. Hopefully we survive despite voters like this mom.

Tara, you should be proud of your mom for not blindly voting down party lines, as many Americans do. Even if you do not agree with her reasoning, your mother shows that she is at least trying to deliberate the issues, while most Americans vote on the basis of tribal fealty. No change can happen if both parties can be assured that large swathes of the electorate will vote for them reflexively. It keeps the political parties on their toes if they know that just because someone voted for them last time, it doesn't mean they will vote for them again. This will force the parties to be more responsive to the people.
