Getting one for Christmas, can you maybe make a video where you go through the setup and tweak it? I think your system is great. also one more question how much RAM did you install? or are you just using the 8GB it comes with?
@Max_Edits_LSC23 күн бұрын
To add to this, I upgraded my NASync to 64Gb of Corsair Vengeance 4800Mhz RAM (make sure the size is for a "laptop" and not a PC) and installed 2 4Tb Samsung Pro 990 SSD's.

Dustin, I’m curious what kind of speeds are you getting on the NvMe inside the NAS 2000mbps ? 3000mbps ? I’ve been buying Thunderbolt 4 enclosures and adding NvMe to each for this reason. I would love to move to something like this longterm

Thanks for the video. I'm currently debating between the Ugreen and Synology. Just upgraded computers and got NVME memory in enclosures on a mac mini. I have an old Drobo 5N that's still barely working, but I can't stand the copy speed, and of course, the company is dead anyway. I also need to figure out an offsite backup. A NAS won't help much if it goes up in a fire or flood (or stolen). Definitely need to figure out my offsite backup.
@DustinArmstrongProАй бұрын
I use a synology through work (my boss manages it though) and honestly I don't think you can go wrong with either ugreen or synology. I've enjoyed using both and don't really see a big difference between either

Why are we using 2.5inch Hard Disk Drives at all when M.2 Nvme is so much smaller & faster? I would love to hear your response.
@DustinArmstrongProАй бұрын
SSDs are more expensive and those bigger drives are mostly just for storage I'm not editing directly from them so speed is not really something I need
@everettwinterlastАй бұрын
@DustinArmstrongPro Makes sense. However, HDD's usually tend to last longer than SSD's right? At some point you're still going to need to replace your eventually failing HDD & cloning your whole data library from one HDD to another takes a long time, so shouldn't everyone at least consider spending the extra money on SSD's only for their NAS's since when one SSD eventually fails, there will be another SSD as backup & you can just quickly clone the backup SSD to a whole new SSD, & do this method for hundreds of years+?
@DustinArmstrongProАй бұрын
@everettwinterlast8704 that's the great thing about a NAS. Depending how you set it up, but you can just replace a drive that fails or is failing and it'll automatically restore everything. No need to do any cloning or anything. Sure if you can afford SSDs those are the better route but as an example an 8 TB SSD can cost $650 or more where an 8 TB HDD cost $150 or less
@everettwinterlastАй бұрын
@@DustinArmstrongProSo interesting how you said "you can just replace a drive that fails or is failing and it'll automatically restore everything. No need to do cloning or anything" I've never heard of this before! But now I feel better about buying a NAS even though I don't understand what process is happening. What should I type in on KZbin to better understand this "restoring" when replacing a failed or failing hardrive? Also since my data library is about 1Tb, I can get NVMe SSD's for a very fair price. However the problem is that Ugreen's 2.5inch + NVMe SSD NAS is an affordable $400 while Ugreens cheapest I could find NVMe only NAS is $1000 so $600 more for a far more futuristic looking NAS only/not hardrives, which doesn't sound fair at all to me. I hope more companies will make fairly priced NVMe only NAS, or Ugreen will somehow offer a cheaper NVMe only NAS that doesn't make NAS itself the price culprit & not the hardrives for people who only need 1Tb - 2Tb.

Looks interesting, good that another company is joining the small server market. Just be careful with keeping one disk in reserve, a mechanical disk that has not been used for a long time may start to work worse (this of course requires a long time) - check with the disk manufacturer to see what is going on with yours, remember that server disks have a really long operating time.

Very nice video I see that you have everything there, what about if somebody robber your house? Is not safer to have Dropbox? Or something that can guarantee this ?
@DustinArmstrongPro2 ай бұрын
I have security monitoring at my house plus a robber is unlikely to steal hard drives or a NAS because they aren't worth much. Probably more likely to just steal my computer and camera equipment but sure it's possible.

@@DustinArmstrongPro Thank you for answer Dustin, I ask you this because probably I´m gonna buy one of this for my Photography and video filmmaking business but this is my question If a robber steals this or something happens I have no remedy on the cloud? like dropbox? @serrfre correct you would not. You would have to set up an external drive (like I have) to automatically sync to the cloud as well

Can you share a folder for pictures and they can upload and access that one folder without accessing any other file? I just order one and I’m curious if you can give family access individually different accounts and have. Access to specific folder for their files without seeing anyone else photos . Can you do that?

I'm very curious as to how these sponsorships work behind the scenes. It seems like they are given a script and list of specific points which they need to cover. ALL sponsorships around this device have the same content and they carefully omit the weaknesses of this nas.
@DustinArmstrongPro2 күн бұрын
UGREEN gave me a bunch of points to pick from to highlight. I chose my favorite ones, I wrote the script myself and UGREEN approved it. Unlikely that a sponsored video will every highlight or talk about a weakness due to it needing approval from the brand so it's good to do your own research, but I haven't had any problems with how it works for me and haven't run in to any glaring issues or weaknesses that have me feeling the need to make a video separately. A sponsored video basically equals a commercial for the brand/device (not always but in most cases) unlikely you'd ever watch a commercial on TV and the brand highlights weaknesses to their product. I'm also not an expert when it comes to NAS's so I'm probably not the guy to ask what its weaknesses are.

Several things. You’re as paranoid as I am about backups. Okay not quite as much as I have multiple HD downloads from my computer onto SSD’s. I’ve begun deleting the older versions manually (file by file) because I don’t trust AI or software to do it. Lol Anyway, NOT JANKY. And we’re looking at this system and your video has been the best info for what we wanted to know.
