Awesome tutorial! I keep getting caught in head and arm chokes, and can't escape. How do i get out of it? Is asking two questions too greedy? I'd like to know how to survive ground n pound. Thanks!

The problem with the book of five rings is that it's highly open to interpretation. I read it first as a teenager and got a certain meaning from it. I've read it again at least once in each decade of my life and gotten something very different from it each time. Still a great treatise on strategy but in its own way, rather mysterious. He's right that for a western mind, western authors like Von Clauswitz can be more accessible, especially if strategy isn't critically integral to your lifestyle. S'all good though, just know what you're getting into.

I like Thomas Cleary's translation of Musashi, just because it's in plain English and very accessible. Cleary's edition gives the impression of Musashi as a medieval Bruce Lee, being critical of traditionalists in the martial arts and breaking combat down to concepts like rhythm and timing. I have no idea if it's originally meant to read like that, but it's useful nonetheless

@@uexkeru That much is pretty clear and I've read that translation. I still find the work open to interpretation and my experience is still that one gets out of the Go Rin No Sho, what one has put into studying martial arts. As I've gained experience, what I get out of it changes over time.

Thanks for the great video. What about when the person on tops posts their head on the mat to prevent the roll?

How you defend against correctly done Umpa?

Timely “Super Hooks” on the backside. You have to keep the bottom guys hips on the mat to the extent possible. That’s at least what I know to do. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWbPdn6GhLCtkJo
