It's hilarious how in the manga Kakuzu is extremely fast to the point of speedblitzing Kakashi, and extremely perceptive both on and off the battlefield, to the point of noticing and attacking a bird in the sky that was being controlled by Ino, this guy noticed that something was wrong and attacked a bird in the sky that had Ino's mind, but he doesn't hear an airplane engine behind him.

I feel like people don't use enough imagination thinking what Naruto could have done with Jiraiya. It's probably the most taijutsu and genjutsu (resisting/breaking out of genjutsu) that Naruto ever did. What's ridiculous is thinking Naruto was able to throw hands with multiple mangekyo sharingan and Rinnegan users just because he did a few days of Frog Kata. Naruto's entire hand to hand style is probably jiraiya's. Not to mention a ton of chakra control training, both Kurama's chakra as well as Naruto's own chakra control, which definitely helped Naruto make more rasengans, more clones, and probably have him some of the necessary basic skills to learn the things he did afterwards. I'm sure all the general chakra control training made a huge difference when it came to learning sage mode and the rasenshuriken and even just controlling Kurama.

Imagine how fantastic would it be if Naruto made like, thousand of clones ALL HAVING fake rasenshurikens with them, because he was shown to be capable of making a clone of rasenshuriken itself multiple times too(once here and once against Pain comes to mind) - this way he'd make use of rasenshuriken's biggest "weakness" - it being so loud that you can't sneak up on anyone with it. It'd fit so perfectly, because Naruto was oftenly reprimanded by Kakashi for being "too loud for a ninja", so for him to use it to his advantage after time skip(AND the fact that Kakashi helped him train to achieve it would make it even better) would be poetic. It's so loud and obnoxious and coming at you from every possible side you have no idea which one is real, you can't possibly be prepared for it

Kakuzu was the first enemy in Naruto Shippuden that made me feel the fear I felt of Orochimaru in Part 1, he was the one that made me fear Akatsuki as an organization. When Akatsuki was mentioned during Part 1 and Orochimaru said that Itachi was stronger than him, it made me think that within the organization there would be more powerful monsters than Orochimaru or Itachi, some unknown monster, Kakuzu for me at the time, it was this unknown monster. Although he didn't do anything in the Hidan vs Team Asuma fight, the mere presence of him standing there doing nothing was scary. I watched the entire fight in terror, hoping he wouldn't get involved. He just gave off the vibe that he could annihilate everyone there present without the slightest effort, and that fight was something below him. At least for me, Kakuzu had the most imposing presence of all Akatsuki members, I only felt something similar in the ninja war when Madara appeared, but with Madara it wasn't fear, it was simply his massive power. You knew the 5 Kage were fucked. Even though he's cannon fodder, he's still the Akatsuki member I'm most afraid of. You don't want to be alone in a room with him, not that it's going to do much good since he's a hunter. This brings me to my next point, he is a bounty hunter, he will literally hunt you down to the depths of hell for your bounty, you are not safe from Kakuzu, if you run you will die tired, and when he gets you he won't just kill you, he'll rip your heart out. There's also the fact that Kakuzu is made of threads, the only living thing is his heart, or his 5 hearts, he's basically a bunch of threads that got together and took human form and goes around the world killing people. Think about it, he's a bunch of wires that got together and took a human form to walk the world, and along the way he leaves a pile of bodies, there's no better description of a horror movie monster, he also has 5 hearts, and each of them can take the form of a monster. Kakuzu can randomly kill people when he gets angry, but he also selectively kills people by choosing his bounties. He is the combination of two types of killers, the serial killer who randomly kills people because he is crazy, but the selective one who specifically chooses his targets, if you ever meet Kakuzu you don't know what he will do, he might ignore you because you're not his target, or he might kill you because he's in a bad mood, the fact that he's both types of killers and both scenarios are plausible is scary, you just don't know what might happen, and the fear of the uncertain, of the unknown, of what might happen, is one of the worst fears there is. The whole concept of the character is something of a horror. The whole concept of the character is an absolute monster. Out of all the members of Akatsuki, Kakuzu is the one who most resembles the initial concept of all members of the organization being monsters, unlike Zetsu who is a monster on the outside, Kakuzu initially appears normal, but underneath he is a monster with 5 hearts made of threads that have been strung together to look like something normal.

Agreed. This is what made the Sound 5 fights so awesome. The genin and Sound shinobi weren't equals, but they were tough contenders for each other. Absolutely nothing that happened felt like an ass pull, nobody suddenly gained new powers that had 0 prior suggestion (note I don't count Susanoo in this because Itachi already has Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi). The fights were extremely tense, where you literally felt like lots of these genin would just be sacrificing themselves. You never really get that sentiment here

Kishimoto realized the main villain was going to be madara, and it was already established that Hashirama was his rival, so he had to make him at least just as strong. Kakuzu somehow lost his physical and attack speed when he fought Naruto, despite all sources saying he powered up when he fought Naruto. He wasn’t weakened. It would’ve made sense if Kishi made it clear Naruto’s speed increased but it didn’t. He only worked on nature transformation during his training with Kakashi. And the fact a veteran of over 100 years (or almost) fell for the simplest trick in the book How did Naruto form another Rasenshuriken so fast and “mute”? It makes a shit ton of noise. It made zero sense. Kakuzu literally forgot how to fight when Naruto arrived. Why your rewrite was so much better. Naruto had the speed and teamwork to beat Kakuzu What Kishi chose of Naruto “crossing the bridge alone” goes against one aspect of the series that Naruto himself also represented: teamwork

I agree. Kakuzu was quite the menace, until Naruto showed up, and that shouldn't have changed. It's not like he was running out of Chakra or anything. He should have either continued trying to wipe them all out, or maybe tried to escape because there are now too many opponents to deal with alone, he's running out of hearts and he still has money to collect. The fact that he basically gives up fighting is unacceptable and just too unrealistic. Or, all the shinobi present surround him and gang up on him, or at least pin him down so Naruto can finish him off. Getting one good lick in to show us what the completed Rasenshuriken does should be enough.

This is why I liked your re-write version of this fight more! You not only made the batlle longer and really harder, but you also gave each character their moments to shine and deliver emotional damage to us viewers, instead of letting Naruto do everything alone. I Also like the fact that Lee appeared on that fight, considering that he would be pretty useful in there as well, but what I liked the most too, was that you made everyone work together to help Naruto deliver the rasenshuriken, because it's a jutsu that takes a good portion of chakra, and it would make sense that he would need cover to recharge and attack again. The original fight indeed left an disappointing taste, since the guy is what? 93 almost 100 years old? Was supposed to have tremendous experience in batlle? The difference is that it was a clone, not a shadow clone. Shadow clones evenly divide chakra, so you can't tell the difference. Plus, I'm sure it was a stressful situation, basically 5 against 1, and he lost 2 hearts. It's not the easiest situation to think with a clear head.

Itachi once said naruto (in war arc) has lost sight of what was important, in that it was teh help of his friends that got him to where he was, ye Naruto in this situation was exactly that.

All of the moments were great, but I think it just sorta dragged. Somewhere between the original, which was too fast and not badass enough, and your version, which was very badass but slightly too drawn-out, would be perfect. Adding Rock Lee to the Kakuzu fight was genius btw.

Truthfully, I think Kakashi, Choji, and Ino should be the main focus for the fight. It's ok for Naruto to not get a battle until the Pain arc. Especially Ino and Choji need to at least be useful in the battle. Although I feel like Kakuzu should've also been more op. Maybe save him for a later battle and make Hidan the climax battle of the season.

the akatsuki was a sham to begin with and obito only used them to further his own goals anyway. I don’t know why people thought every single akatsuki was going to be super important characters besides that I thought they were handled well honestly. Hidan killed shikamaru master and he got his revenge in one of the coldest scenes in naruto. Deidara almost killed gaara, took the jin, and had one of the best fights in naruto with sasuke. Kaz was quite literally bodying kakashi, choji,, ext and only died due to naurto new overpowered jutsu. Kisame beat killer bee and would of killed him probably if it was not for guy. I can go on but the only one who feels underused is sasori people are just crying for the sake of crying

That whole arc was kinda silly. The intent was clearly to give team asuma some development but first off shikamarus initial plan was to go take on hidan and kakuzu with just his team which they woulda gotten wiped as kakashi pretty much kept them all alive and into and choji were barely useful at all. The problem with naruto is that kishimoto was rooting for sasuke the whole time. He admitted that sasuke was his favourite character and that he loved drawing him. Until naruto vs pain sasuke is smarter, stronger, has more jutsus. I think kishimoto was a master in creating good characters and stories and than in destroying what he created. Still the manga was quite good but it could have been so much better.

I recently rewatched Naruto(and still am), and when I reached the Immortal Duo arc, it reminded me why my favourite arc from Early Shippuden was a filler arc(Guren Arc). This arc was actually pretty good in concept and the first half is pretty good too, too bad the second half was a let down, because Kishi clearly screwed up the fight. The most infuriating part of the fight for me, was when Kakuzu reversed the numbers advantage on the good guys, yet their tactics did not change. Its a bit wierd to make strategy for a fight where you know you have a numbers advantage and for that same strategy to not change when the dynamics of the fight get fliped. Ofc, another bad thing about this arc is that its a Shikamaru fight, and both his previous 2 fights hold up under scrutiny under a rewatch , for me at least. Out of the 5 good fights in Naruto , Shikamaru has 2.

Yeah it's sort of a meme at this point, but I'm rewatching for the first time in like a decade, and there is so much interesting, subtle tactics going on in the first arcs - like distance you can throw a kunai, how much equipment you can bring into the field, marching formations - that just sort of fade away so guys can shoot bigger and bigger lasers. occasionally big bads could do super OP crap like instantly bringing the dead back to life, but bread and butter ninjas had to use their brains, pay attention, and edge out a win... pretty consistently, BAD GUYS won through brute force, and GOOD GUYS won through team work and ingenuity. but towards the later series, both "good" and "bad" guys are just hurling haymakers. what do you consider the other 3 good fights?

@@buildings_and_food I think the other 3 good fights were Rock Lee vs Gara , Neji vs Kidomaru and there was 1 more, but I can't quite remember, maybe it was the fight against Kimimaro with Gara and Rock Lee. The reason I don't consider the rest to be as good, is that they rely on certain things I like to call " the author said so" more than the other 5 fights. A good example of this, is the fight between Kankuro and Shino, where Shino says that his insects follow the female bug that produces an odorless scent and he somehow managed to get the female bug on Kankuro but we never see him do that. The Author just tells us to belive that he did, tho this could be wrong on my part , since I watched the Naruto Kai version , so maybe the normal version has more parts in case that the Kai version cut them? Anyway, in reality Naruto part 1 has a lot of good fights, but the 5 I mentioned, I feel like they abused "the author said so" to way lower degrees. Neji Vs Kidomaru has impressed me with how little it used actually. It was a very short and linear fight in that sense.

Rock Lee Gaara (both times) is just breathtaking, visually and emotionally... lile I tear up just thinking about when Lee starts sleepwalking... but at a writing level too, youre spot on. Example, during chuunin fight, Gai is the only one surprised that Gaara made a sand clone/substitution, because he'd closed his eyes in prayer for a split second. And it's sensible that Lee wouldnt notice either because he's (a) not a ninjutsu guy and (b) was facing Gaara's back at that moment. At it's best this series is so good. I really wish mangaka life wasnt such a meat grinder and Kishimoto couldve had room and agency to plan every arc and battle to those levels! Dattebayo!

Naruto's main problem as a character is his lack of strategic thinking (Dumbie). He embodies the typical cliché shounen protagonist who heavily relies on raw power and punching his way with fists. Kishimoto only grants him a few jutsus and relies too heavily on Kurama (Deus Ex-Machina) to solve any obstacle that Naruto's little mind couldn't otherwise tackle. Instead of employing clever strategies, Naruto tends to charge into battles head-on, relying on his endurance rather than his intelligence. As a result, his fights often conclude in a rather simplistic and unintelligent manner, lacking the depth of strategic planning.

Madara also fought like that after being revived. He just charged head-on against the tailed beasts. It is the most efficient way of fighting if your abilities allow for that. It's also how people fight in real life. If you have a big advantage and know the opponent cannot knock you out then you can recklessly get close and overpower them and this happens constantly in the UFC when there is a big mismatch. You only have to be strategic against decent opponents. Naruto is way stronger than 99% of the people he flights so he only uses strategy the other 1% of the time.

Hey Dygo, I'm kinda glad, that you finally made a video about this fight. Because when I first heard you say "Kakuzu is fodder", I just thought: Are we talking about the same character??? But if you put it that way, then...Yes. Kishimoto made Kakuzu, a character with massive potential, into fodder and a quick, but unsatisfying, "triumph". Another thing, that always stands out to me about this fight, is the fact, that Naruto doesn't act like Naruto. There's no talk no jutsu. Naruto appears and right away attempts to fight/kill Kakuzu, which of course is a reasonable decision, but not in the case of Naruto! He, who tries to reason with his enemys and make them give up! (cough) Atleast when the rasengan doesn't work. (cough) But I guess thats just another sign of the shortcomings and the timepressure, which essentially "killed" any character arc that Kishimoto could have had in mind for Kakuzu.

So lets put this into perspective shall we. So Kakuzu had already lost two of his five hearts. He's no longer up against just Kakashi and fodder ninja. He now also has the jinchuriki that he's been told to capture alive, and a wood style user to worry about. Never mind the fact that he's alone and even though he "fought" the first Hokage. He likely got his ass smacked but decided to bragg. His enemy essentially knows all of his moves and weaknesses. He's not just at a disadvantage in numbers, but at a disadvantage in power as well. Not to mention he doesn't exactly know the abilities of Naruto or Yamato. So fighting on the backfoot already now he has to deal with a guy that uses perfect clones, a technique that not a lot of ninjas can do, and has other ninjas on standby to help him out. He's likely partly exhausted from fighting Kakashi (just Kakashi because the others were just fodder) So they fight and ofcourse Naruto comes out on top with a top 1 dangerous jutsu that noones seen before and obliterates the person it touches. So essentially the reason Kakuzu lost is because he was afraid after seeing what Naruto's jutsu can do.

Tbh something that never made sense to me is the Kurama eyes within Naruto's Blue Eyes I swore this meant that Naruto had gained more control over a piece of Kurama's chakra...but NOPE he loses control in arcs after! I never noticed how out of character and out of the motifs of the story this one part is and it really shows how the editors were rushing. If you think about it, most of Naruto's fights aren't fought alone. Even if he gets a one on one it usually builds up from the team needing to split, people being knocked out or something. Some kind of setup. Naruto is the guy that doesn't want to be alone and he doesn't have that kind of pride. In that way he's the opposite of Sasuke who is someone that always wants to be self sufficient and be left alone. Not counting the exams, he didn't fight Zabuza or Haku alone, he didn't start the chase after Gaara alone, the chase after Sasuke alone (in fact he never stayed back to help only because everyone would tell him to go and not lose Sasuke). Not against Kabuto and Orochimaru. He isn't alone in Konoha when Pain attacks. Heck, even the final fight against Tobi, Madara and Kaguya. Naruto is a team player through and through in all of his fights. Him saying "let me solo him" is so not him. My guess is that the original plan for this fight was to have Kakuzu split himself and each body control one heart. With Sakura staying behind to take care of a damaged Kakashi, It would be a 4 v 5. It would make use of the rest of the team there. Kakuzu could probably over power the other ninjas and the situation would escalate until everyone was hurt (it's not hard to play elemental jankenpon here, fire burns Yamato's wood, water messes with Sai's ink, etc), Kakuzu would put himself back together and be stronger, and then it would devolve into a 1v1.

I can understand what you're coming from. With Sasuke and Dedara, we got to just how tactical and resourceful they were, not just how powerful their techniques are. Naruto vs. Kakuzu was mostly Naruto, trying to use one Jutsu to end the fight, and Kakuzu was not really doing anything meaningful to avoid it. If anything, he should've tried to attack while they were all talking.

One more thing that's bad about that arc imo is that it's not very fulfilling in the long run because even after the whole training arc before that we essentially end up with an incomplete jutsu that is just another more powerful version of rassengan still being a close range jutsu, basically similar to what we already got with 9 tails chakra rassengan when they fought 30% Itachi, using it will harm Naruto and it didn't even end up completely finishing of Kakazu. So, it feels a waste of time. If we had gotten the full long range rassenshuriken in this arc along with better fight sequence it would have been much better.

Almost everyone does even. Deidara's earth style is weak to Sasuke's electricity. Kisame who stomps everyone except Taijutsu users like Gai, Konan lost to the most hax jutsu in the series from Tobi, (Orochimaru from Sasuke's curse mark got haxxed by Itachi's immortality destroying and soul sucking sword), Sasori lost on purpose when he saw the puppets of his parents at the end of the fight, Tobi basically only lost because of Kakashi's sharingan and while one of Pain's bodies was hard countered by nature chakra, the real Nagato got countered by Talk No Jutsu

Great video and also what should be the reply to people like that Noodles guy that argue Kakuzu beating Pain for years. Based on the information we have on Kakuzu [very old and experienced, survived Hashirama, great durability (I mean it, no meme), very fast, can fight from range with every element as well, has five lives in a fight, is relative to Kakashi and can hold off a low tier Bijuu] he is indeed decently strong and around Kage level, but his performance in the fights overall just don't reflect that. He spotted Inu controlling the hawk, had a counter to Shikamaru's shadow possession ready, brawled Kakashi and seemed superior, which are his good feats. But he also got blitzed by loud-ass Rasen Shuriken Naruto TWICE, got blasted by Tenten as an Edo Tensei and did not deal any significant damage to anyone from Team 10. He planned to take the Kyuubi out of Naruto in Konoha and did not even reach Konoha. Kakashi with Mangekyou would have probably won (Kakashi himself saying it does not confirm it 100% but he is on the more humble and realistic side and smart enough to gauge something like that) alone against him as well. Kishimoto rushed the fight vs Naruto and absolutely did Kakuzu dirty with that and the community just reacted accordingly. Kakuzu deserved a proper fight where the protagonists have a close victory that feels earned, and not whatever the hell Kishimoto's editors came up with.

Truefully, i wish naruto lost that fight and Kakashi had to level up on the spot to finish the fight. The reason is he didn't train to get faster or stronger he just created a new jutsu. Stuff like this is why I drifted away from Naruto. Characters just so poorly utilitized in order to beef up others makes the beefing up feel fake and forced and unearned, and over time doing this multiple times just makes people lose interest. Naruto never hugely developed his tactics as a fighter. He just bigger unga bungas that could be spammed more and more. Kakuza should have forced Naruto to evolve his tactics but it was the same tricks he's been using since the beginning.

Kakuzu as a character is really cool and interesting. His fight with Kakashi and team 10 was awesome. His fight with Naruto was extremely lackluster. The weirdest part is that considering the entire arc was about chakra natures and their strengths/weaknesses, Naruto goes up against Kakuzu’s fire and wind masks with just his wind style rasengan. Kakuzu should have used the lightning mask instead of fire to highlight wind’s elemental advantage. Naruto fighting fire and wind with just wind should logically give him a huge disadvantage.

@@anvos658 but Danzo has tons of power ups like 10 Izanagi+Hashirama cells. Also old Hiruzen can go toe-to-toe with MS Sasuke no problem. Danzo supposed to be slightly weaker than Hiruzen.

We've could have seen one of the most versatile arsenal from Kakuzu and maybe even seen a clash between him and Kakashi going Justu for Justu trying to get the upper hand.

I just assume that Kakuzu has just gotten very weak due to being so old. Or maybe its a retcon thing. Like if you put him up against the Hashirama from the fight between Hiruzen and Orochimaru perhaps he could actually win. Since of course Hashirama wasn't originally written as powerful as he was in the War Arc due to power creep.

2:01 But...early Naruto did start that way. Naruto contributes a 2 second punch to the Haku fight and it was in Nine-tails mode. He doesn't have a major fight in the forest of death, and his fight against Kiba is not the climax of the preliminaries. He doesn't start getting involved in the major fight of the arc until Konoha Crush when he fights Gaara.

I think you’re too caught up in comparing Naruto to Sasuke. This wasn’t a Naruto vs. Kakazu fight it was a Team 7 vs. Hidan & Kakazu fight. Naruto got his strategic one on one fight vs Pain.

@@dustinhatfield8373 I think you’re falling into the same trap as the OP. Sasuke vs. Itachi was a 1 on 1 fight that was built up for the entire series. Brother vs. brother 15 year revenge arc. Why compare that to Naruto finishing off this random bad guy we only knew for a few episodes, who half the Konoha 12 had already been fighting. Naruto and Sasuke’s level of development was rarely equal throughout the story. The comparisons don’t make sense to me.

@@EvanShep32 that's not the comparison i was making. I was saying that naruto vs pain was the comparison to sasuke vs itachi. That's why dygo is correct in comparing this to sasuke vs deidara. I don't personally hate this fight like he does but he still makes good points. What makes naruto vs pain mirror sasuke vs itachi? - both fighting members of their respective clans - the theme of revenge (naruto denies it and sasuke embraces it) - both villains defeated their masters (jiraiya/orochimaru) - both were set up as the respective primary antagonists for Naruto and Sasuke (itachi was set up from the beginning and pain is the leader of the akatsuki who was set up as the main antagonists up until that point for naruto from mid to late part 1) -both naruto and sasuke technically lost their fight -naruto cemented his goal of ending hatred and became recognized as a hero of the leaf. Sasuke cemented his goal of avenging itachi and became an enemy of the leaf.
