Just an interesting fact. Mr Acemoglu said that emperor of Russia Nicholas I saw an outside/foreign threat which may came with the railways, but actually he was a person who bring the railways to Russia. When constructing the network of railways across Russia Nicholas I make sure that the width between rail-tracks was individual for Russia, thus foreign occupiers could not use them properly. This decision helped a lot during war times and WWII in particularly.

The book says that the government has to be accountable to the people. The government is, what has to happen is that the people have to be accountable to each other too through hard work, ethics, and fairness. Let supply and demand determine wages, not just say that someone who makes too much should give more. If there is a collusion or white collar crime, address it then. Don't just assume those who make too much have the obligation to give money back..

Good lecture and a great book but these guys wilfully avoid politically difficult questions around race and culture. Acemoglu acknowledges this at the end of the lecture.

The Ecuador's President, Eco. Correa, briefly quoted the book of Acemoglu and Robinson (Why Nations Fail") during his recent guest conference in Harvard University. It's true that Ecuador on the last years had changed the income distribution through taxes. And there are stability and public investment on roads, school buildings and water dams. But that's only half true: this politic stability is due to his tight control over the institutions and all State branches of power. Moreover, now in Ecuador there is an increasing legal and tax insecurity to foreign and Ecuadorian private productive investments within the country. During his academic life, Mr. Correa had written some books. Now, he could write another one titled: "Why the nations fool?"

For All to have dignified living without wars, inequality and all kinds of global, local and personal problems we need a global system that supports All Life Equally. The Equality-based system will require All humans to continuously lose Self-Interest and live according to what is Best For All Equally. There are courses with which a person can support oneself and others in the change. I recommend all to find and study the websites of 'Equal Money System', 'Desteni I Process' and 'Desteni'.

so his entire talk can be summarised by the preference of the ruling class to OWN an old Landcruiser vs LEASING the latest Ferrari.
