That is quite bulky, depends on your bodyfat of course. Your goal should be 90 kg, which you will achieve in two years or so. I think what you have to do first and foremost is increase the weight and intensity of your training, maybe the reason you dont gain muscle is becuase you do not train well or sleep enough.

I agree with you, but don't think certain people should (like you said). Specifically, I think young guys or guys in high school / college should probably stay away from counting food. When you're young and most likely new to lifting, if you want to gain muscle, just eat a ton of food and lift heavy. Tracking your food as a young man isn't a good way to build confidence for the future.
@AlexLeonidas7 жыл бұрын
Maybe you're right. One can argue that this builds the right habits for the future though, I don't know. I started counting calories when I was in high school. Did it do me right? In my eyes yes, because as an adult I have no trouble living this fitness lifestyle. But perhaps I do have my own body issues because of this. I do agree that young guys should eat a ton of food and train heavy though.

Appetite can be very deceiving because a lot of times it's based on mood, time of day, and blood sugar levels. For whatever reason, I am usually not as hungry in the morning as I am for lunch or dinner. And even though I train in the morning before breakfast I rarely feel so hungry during my workout that it impedes it. On the other hand, I can finish breakfast, and literally be hungry by 10:30. So, obviously appetite alone, that is the feeling of hunger, the need to eat, and while eating, the feeling of how much more food you need to eat to feel full, is very often not an accurate indication of the actual nutrition needed for your body. This is especially true if you are an emotional eater as well as a grazer, who eats throughout the day.
@AlexLeonidas7 жыл бұрын

@chrishealey35167 жыл бұрын
It's true that most people have to exceed what usually satiates them by a fair amount in order to make gains. It's more difficult, requires more planning and organisation and is more expensive than the actual lifting. I'm just back after 10 days off with a stomach bug, finding food all together unappealing but forcing it down all the same.
@Yusuf11877 жыл бұрын
Also, your appetite only increases to maintenance levels for your new mass. It doesn't make people eat a bulking diet. And obviously hunger isn't a very precise gauge of calories anyway, so a guy may end up eating at a slight deficit without even knowing it, or may accidentally eat at way too high of a surplus if his diet isn't completely 'clean'.

So true man, I thought I was eating so much food. When I tracked that shit I was actually eating around 2400 cal. Once I started tracking my shit, macros and calories, and forcing myself to eat 3000 per day I saw mazing gains. I gained 22 lbs in a year. Now I know what I need to eat everyday without tracking and have the discipline to force myself to eat it even if i'm not hungry. If you know what you're requirements are i think you can get away without tracking, but as soon as performance in the gym or weight aren't moving in the right direction then its time to track that shit again. I haven't tracked for the last 6 months or so and I've gained 11lbs. Right now I am 176lbs 15-18% BF and very happy with my progress

A good tip for skinny guys is to do water training that competitive eaters do, it can literally double your stomach capacity in a week or two and after that you just maintain it. It becomes so much easier to finish your meals and increase portion sizes. Imo, you only need to get to get comfortable with about 1 liter, its more than most meals and you don't need to worry about electrolytes.. I used to just chug it 2-3 times a day. It gets annoying quickly so id recommend you flavor that shit.

You are 100% right If you are not accurately tracking your numbers, you will find it impossible to reach your goals. In my experience, the more accurately I have tracked and stuck to my numbers, the more I have shredded or bulked as required. Think of it this way, if you were following a lifting programme, would you go in the gym, look at your plan, and then when loading the weight, close your eyes and just start adding weight to the bar by feel? Just go, that feels right. It should be right? Would you do that with the weight? No way - it's fucking mental So why would you do it with your food? Or like you pointed out sleep. No point in being organised for 1 hour of the day in the gym. It's the other 23 hours that count. Apply the same application to every hour, no matter what you are doing, it all contributes to the same goal

I used to weight roughly the same, in terms of eating, what helped me the most was liquid meals. If you are not lactose intolerant, I suggest trying out something like: milk+peanut butter+oatmeals+2 servings of fruits that you like (I found out bananas and avocados work best for me). I like drinking one in the morning because I don't have much time and another when I return from the gym because I'm usually too lazy to cook something after the iron. I like this combination because there is usually enough protein, carbs, fat and vitamins.

It's not about how you "feel" when your building a body. You have to count calories and organize meals to KNOW that you are eating enough, not merely to feel it. You wouldn't get anywhere if you just went into a gym and did what you felt like or where worn out, you have to systematically increase the weights to get stronger. Feelings are useless and unreliable.

I weigh about 175lbs, hovering between 18-20% body fat, I eat around 2700cals on lifting days and 2500 on recovery days. I eat a lot of pasta, rice, fish, chicken, lamb, eggs, salad, fruit and whey powder with milk!

Do you think plate pinches contribute to your forearm mass a lot? Or are they mainly used for grip strength
@AlexLeonidas7 жыл бұрын
I feel it's best for grip strength, I believe wrist flexion exercises are better for forearms.

Im 17 and have been lifting for about 2 years, being a skinny kid i ate alot and now ive gained considerable muscle mass but also alot of fat. Im trying to cut down right now and only eating around 2000 calories, but everyone on youtube just says to eat alot to grow. I am confused, should i continue a calorie deficit or do something different?

When I was very young I did not have a huge apetite,about 9-10 yrs old started swimming regularly,ate like a truck,then I started swimming more regularly and eat for 2 trucks so Idk cardio I guess,(tho swiming is kind of resistance training too) the more you eat-the more you can eat you body adapts an apetite for what your circumstances are kinda simple really . eat more stomach expands your apetite as well-eat less stomach shrinks and apetite lowers.

I'm the type of guy to restrict myself even when I bulk because I can eat so much and my metabolism is so slow. I'm bulking right now and I do intermittent fasting

As a big dude at 260lbs and been lifting for over a year its hard to clean eat and meet my tde the only way to drop weight is by eating like 2 or 3 small meals a day and do cardio sometimes but then i lose weight quickly and then when i eat normally again i just shoot back up and also i don't want to be skinny fat. I'm only 19 so i dont have the resources to measure all my food and buy all my food yet when i get a car i think it will be easier

Is it natural for a skinny guy to get a "belly" while bulking? Been trying to gain weight for 3 years and I'm finally seeing results but Idk if its my muscle mass increasing or my gut
