Millions of Americans are always doing what you said...taking everything for granted. People who love to complain how hard they have it have no idea what life is like in eastern Europe and parts of Africa and South America. Evern here in Japan, one of the objectively safest and nicest countries on the planet, people are EXTREMELY grateful for their fortunate lives. Good on you bro for thinking that way. There is unarguably zero downside to being grateful, even if you literally are the most unfortunate person to ever exist.

Thanks coach, that was a pretty insightful video. correct me if I'm wrong but I think the main points for why Europeans cook Americans is:- 1) Europeans play in a strong environment at a younger age next to professional athletes 2) Even though basketball is a love language the europeans also see it as a job and responsibility they must uphold 3) The environment for europeans since a young age is to learn basketball and not just flashy moves for a mixtape (which is why Europeans are always "higher IQ")

I played amateur for 11 years in a small city in Serbia. It's easier to get noticed now because, when I was 12-13, it depended a lot on the coaches connections. Now, there is internet and manager agencies. Still, it's much more complicated and nuanced than what you said. First of all, the passion for the game is different. The way the competitions for younger ages are set up is also different than in the US. Training per week is also different. It's a year long thing training with your team, competing within the same age rank, etc. We also have organised preparation camps, both individually and with your team, going on some mountain to train and take advantage of the altitude. I'd suggest two short documentaries which could help you see it better: 250 Steps & A Hundred Invisible Threads Hope you enjoy it.

@@milangrujicic4679 Serbian school of basketball teaches you core fundamentals at an early age. Many talented American kids that get to the NBA have poor fundamentals. They tend to focus on iso moves they like and don't work on their weaknesses. Much easier to mould a young euro player with solid core fundamentals. Even Domantas Sabonis who was born in the US, at an early age moved with his family to Spain where he was taught core fundamentals growing up. The NBA has recognised this huge gap and will look to address it perhaps by creating a youth academy system like they have in europe. Eg. Luka Dončić joined the youth academy program at Real Madrid at the age of 13. By 19 he became the best player in Europe.

The reason why football (soccer) is the greatest sport in the world is exactly the opposite of what this video appeals to. Nobody cares if a person from Cameroon is the best or from Slovenia as long as it makes a team better, for " fight" by nationality there is the World Cup but in any case it is understood that it is a team sport, something that people from us do not understand, they prefer to be the best and not be the best team, they want to be better than the others just because they are from another country and not because you are the best or that your team is the best, it is something sad and a little xenophobic

I was very good as a kid and teenager, played for german pro teams but to literally play and fall in love with the game yku literally only need a ball and two objects, that you place as the posts. Simply put Giannis is extremely grateful for the opportunity he had to change his and his whole family's lives dramatically and will not let anything take it away and work everyday all day if he has to . Luka and jokic too , they know that they are in a very good and lucky position to make millions playing the game they love and they take their profession very serious and won't take it for granted . I feel like because of the collage opportunities and the extreme media attention that these new prospects get even before they make it to the nba , is making them arrogant and feeling that they have made it to the top of the world so they dont have to work as much

I disagree. The media’s attitude around youth basketball hurts the game. AAU is where the most opportunities are earned and the where most young players get a chance to play on a team with people that care. Lower level school ball is the worst it’s ever been. The media has been irresponsible with young American basketball players and it catches up when they get to the NBA.

Thank you for bringing this up ! Sometimes i feel like im talking to a wall in regards to how far behind our player development system is compared to them. I think for the longest time, because the talent was there and the sports popularity hadnt exploded yet, players that went the traditional school route were the only ones we really saw. Now with several different routes to profesionalism, based all around the world, the downsides of our school based, grassroots system has become more and mor obvious. And its not like college basketball really helps eitehr bevause the style of play is dinosaur slow and the coaches would rather use same sets than play a high tempo game. college is really becoming a route for role players now. You're better off going overseas or joining the league ignite at this pt. But the main problem is the lack of basketball iq development at the younger ages. Thats how overseas players are slowly beginning to surpass us.

I fell in love with basketball watching the big San Antonio three of Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker. I know Duncan is American, but he was born on the Virgin Islands. These three players are basically foreign, but they played such great team basketball. Their basketball was fundamental and selfless. You are looking at race, but I think there are other factors to the game. Right now I am falling out of love with the game because the scoring is emphasized and defense is being eliminated from the game every year with new rule changes.

It has become a soft, no tactics, no defence, no touch 3 point contest. It went from a contact sport to a caricature of its former self. Euroleague is more fun to watch now.

How did MLB players go off-brand? Do you have any examples? Most baseball fans would say that the game stayed stagnant and didnt evolve. In 2010, it would be almost unthinkable to bat flip a World Series-winning walk-off homerun. Pitch clocks weren't a thing until very recently; once inplemented, games got significantly shorter and gained more appeal to the casual fan. Imagine 2020 NBA games with no shot clock.

Look how man young black men in sports are benefiting from their fathers who have played pro sports. Why cant they look up to Giannis or Shai or Luka. Why does it have to specifically be a black american. We need to stop putting us in a box with specific labels. We are not a monolith.

If the number one sport is just about accessibility then basketball will never overtake football. All we needed to play football after school was enough space to run in. @@DorianGroup82 Comparing the g league to the Euro League is wild from a level standpoint. Most of the Euro League MVPs that came over to the NBA struggled due to lack of minutes given, opportunities and a WAY different style of basketball that prioritises individual scoring and athleticism. Basketball across the pond is more focused on team play and creating through a system, which is also done in the NBA but to a much lesser degree. Europe also has a lot of individually great players (e.x. Mike James and Shane Larkin which are both American) Luka doncic is a player who was already used to the "American" style of play being one of the primary scorers at his time with Real Madrid, which is a reason why he is so successful in the NBA right now. Look. While realistically you need at least five a side to make football work, you only need two people and a half court for one on one...and just fix a board and hoop onto a lamppost on the street, or a tree, or in your backyard; & draw lines with chalk...Like we did in Serbia when i was a kid.

Maybe they're safer in NBA because they aren't in their country and don't have that hype starting to mess up their mind, but I think NBA just have the best players now coming from Europe and Africa, because basket is getting very popular there !

American iso ball sucks why cant we learn our kids to play team basketball like in Europe develop high IQ players with fundamentals and skills and a good work ethic. I watched the FIBA tournament and these teams would move the ball around non stop multiple actions on each play box outs screens while all we did was 1 versus 1 and zero defense just bad habits they learn early on I guess.

the nba is going to push American players to be the face of the nba after labron and to be honest there's not a American player that i can say is head and shoulders above any of the euro guys just look at it now you have Giannis Luka Embiid Shai jokic all of them aren't American and are going to be the top 5 in nvp Jayson Tatum is a star player but compared to them he falls short
@DiorInEveryStore

Since we going by continents Shai is north american went to hs college and played eybl here and Embiid been in the US most of his life and would play for team usa. So thats 3 really good european players out of the 100s of good americans. Gleague and bench player americans go to the euroleague and dominate. This narrative is crazy

No one is claiming that the NBA has far more talent than Europe overall. There is a much bigger pool of potential players in the US, however having so many European players in the top 10-20 of the NBA is not insignificant. Europe would probably win an all star matchup v US today.

The English premier league is the best and most watched league in the world, the players are from every part of the world. English people have know problem with this what do ever, it just means we have the best players, playing in our league, I really get the problem with having foreign born players, playing in the NBA. It stinks of racial insecurity if you ask me.

Most of these European players your talking about didnt play high level ball till they came to the US. Jokic - didnt start playing professionally till he was 17 even then he came to the nba 2 years later. Meaning the majority of his development happened in the US. Embiid - Is not european, didn't start playing till he was 15 and once he committed to bball he moved to the US to develop Giannis - Didn't start playing high level ball untill '11 was drafted in 13 by the Bucks. Most of his development has happend after he came to the US. Luka - like you said basically been playing G-League level or higher ball since he was 16 Shai - not european but moved to the US when he was 16 for more recognition and better competition. Markkanen - Dad was a pro baller, played at Kansas before playing pro in Finland. Went to Arizona to play. I say all that to say European basketball is not killing US basketball. Having some of the top players and taking over is by no means the same thing.

European players learn the fundamentals. The european scouts are much more better than the american scouts who only see the vertical jump, but nothing else. The european coaches kf the young players teach everything from the earliest age of the players. An average european omayer in the NBA is more skilled and has more basketball iq than an average american player, because the european kid learns to think in system and team. The system is different. In Europe a kid gets skills from every position regardless of his physical abilities meanwhile an american kid is chosen for a position and he remains in it until his carreer's end.

At one point, Americans are like 4% of the people on earth. And your society is not on the best track ever regarding for example kid health and education, so it's not a surprise to me that European and other world wide athletes are taking over one of the most popular sport in the world. And in a lot of countries in europe (I'm a spanish living in Switzerland for reference) have basketball as their number 1 or 2 most popular sport, so it's an incentive to become good as you say and treating it as a job. We see it with players like Jokic or Giannis for example, Luka is quite different because Madrid is a lot American in that way that is very "star like", you're treated like a king there but there is very high pressure on winning, a bit like the Lakers I would say. And I mean... If Asian people had the genetics of black people, the NBA would be 95% asian at least do to their work ethic, passion for the game and the sheer number of them. So that's still a point to be made, altough white players like Doncic or Jokic are very good athletes too but in a different way (balance, strength and things like that).

I come from Greece where Bball is our national sport. Since the 80s when I started following bball i noticed that We European had better foundamentals, technique, defence vs USA where there is more speed power, athletecism, arrogance. more entertaining dunks and you guys care more about a fancy dunk rather than winning a game. In Europe we would celebrate at end and flex ourselves not after a dunk and one when we are down 20 points. I think you have lost the fundamentals. Today NBA Bball is 3 pointers and lay ups and the guys on the court have lost their roles now even the waterboy of an nba team can shoot a 40 footer. Lack of fundamentals, lack of roles for each position its a more chaotic, defence is non existent it like watching a training game high cors are interesting if the fundamentals are there. Go back to 2006 game of USA vs Greece game in Japan to see the main differences between NBA and European basketball. Finally, you can see how the NBA MVPs are struggling when they play with their national teams in European National Championships. Giannis, Jokic, Doncic have all failed so far and could not score 40 or 50 points against a european national team as a rule of thumb. PS: European Basketball at present is more interesting than NBA and with better referees!
