A million years ago while at NYU I took a class called Metropolitan Studies. It is one of the most interesting classes I took in college. NYC is a living laboratory about almost every aspect of life. An endlessly complex and fascinating place that is ever changing and evolving yet, still retaining it’s unassailable character through all the ups and downs. Even though I don’t live there anymore, and probably couldn’t afford to, it will always be my most favorite place. Period. The end.

Interesting and very informative! I have a crazy cab driver story too. I lived in NYC for 5-years. One day I was in a cab on 1-95. The New England Thruway. The freeway was busy and the driver was in one of the center lanes when he slowed the cab down to a stop, turned around and started to chat with me. He was calm and relaxed as if we were in a safe place. It really scared me. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know if he was crazy or on drugs, if I should say something, or just try to humor him. I honestly thought I could die that day by getting rear-ended. Cars were whizzing by on all sides. Then he casually turned around and started driving again as if what he did was just a normal part of life. I felt fortunate to be alive. lol 🧚‍♀

"Neo-liberal" is a bit like "gentrifier" or "hipster" in that these are terms applied by outsiders (who had until recently been the insiders) looking in but no one actually self identifies as them because they're seen as pejorative or simply condescending terms.Excellent book talk!!
