If I recall correctly … the mortgage backed securities market was based on long-term data that suggested home prices never go down. The argument being made on this bitcoin backed loan is that bitcoin returns over longer periods of time only move up. The assumption that home prices only go up ultimately lead to the 2008-09 financial collapse! BAD assumption to make that LT bitcoin will only move up in value over time.

If I’m understanding the video correctly they’re using bitcoin as collateral so that even on the downside the property is not the only collaterilzed asset on the loan. Make your own mind up as to whether BTC will continue to increase in value but based on historical returns this 100% would have benefited the owner. Not to mention, the owner can pay off the loan as quickly as they want with no penalty and if BTC goes up dramatically that loan term just became a lot shorter.

Who owns the bitcoin at the end of the loan if it goes to term and is paid off in full ? after 4 years of the value of the btc is more than the main payoff can the borrower sell the btc and pay off the loan. what would happen to the additional proceeds form the btc if it is more than the loan payoff ?

They'll protect their bottom line even better if the lender just buys the bitcoin themselves.. This seems like the lender is lending the borrower the collateral, which makes no sense.

Made the calculation, loans are just not worth it… Allocate part of your salary for investments and don’t be too greedy or it will blow up in your face at worst, or simply generate less money on average.
