The Waluigi Pinball analogy I think fits the best. Perhaps over time the layout and appeal of the track will fade and be considered overrated. But the music will stay with you long after the race is finished.
@amari6488 ай бұрын
Waluigi pinball feels like a new track every time I play it and I’ve playing on that track since the Ds version. I feel the analogy could work for Ribbon Road because I used to love that track so much when Mk8dx first came out but once it got picked online every single time I played the game, I started to get annoyed seeing the track and would leave to another lobby. Ninja hideaway is still cool(a smooth A tier to low B tier track)to me but I can understand why people think it’s overrated.

4:34 for me, a 200cc player, the reason to take the top path is the shortcut at the end. Since it doesn't require a mushroom I go for it every single time and even if I fail I don't lose much time because everyone else went around it with the track. The shortcut adds so much to the track and together with all the reasons you mentioned(yes even the game theory one) it's my fifth favorite track in 8 deluxe. I like these new short videos, I hope you make more of them

This track I hate for two reasons 1. My skill issue 2. I think it is designed clunky for me in some ways. You can hit bumps or walls that seem to only happen here because the lowering platforms or super sharp turns near the end with tricks and air vents. It’s just kinda like an unreasonable skill spike compared to other tracks and I don’t see a reason as to why it is. Rainbow Road makes sense as a hard track but I don’t see a random original tour track have that justification, and even then I think a lot of it’s difficulty seems from mechanical flaws. My stinky opinion though and I think your analysis was excellent.

For me, Ninja Hideaway is one of those tracks that I love the concept and aesthetic of, however some sections of the track is janky in a way that annoys me when I play it rather than endears me to it (Athens Dash is one of those tracks imo).

there's 3 things that make a track fun to me, flowstate, music, and dopamine, ninja hideaway has that in droves for me, between the level of choice never really breaking the flowstate, the music in turn helping the flowstate, and the dopamine of being able to get incredibly sharp turns on it for 200cc make it such a perfect track for me (also you can use a shell to get in to the pirranha plank section, a mushroom isn't even required

At first, I was more along the lines of Good, but not Great for Ninja, but playing it back over and over, I can’t help but just absolutely be amazed at not only the difficulty and the amount of choices you have, but also the psychological aspect of the track. Do I risk taking the top path even if I have a chance of getting hoed on that final jump? Should I use my mushroom in the hidden cut or the gap cut? The psychological aspect of the track was what really sold me on it, and I can’t wait to see your future videos on this topic.

Here's my take on it: I personally really like Ninja with the varying paths and all that along with the track being somewhat tough but fair-ish. Feels great to cruise through along with having the choice to swap between the top and bottom paths on the fly. I will agree tho that the final section is a bit... eh (Especially with the final fan at the top path like in what world would you be able to use it effectively). Plus its also prone to more jank than other tracks I played in the game. I think another contributing factor to the tracks ahem... "Overrated" nature is because (at the time) it was probably the best offering of Wave 1 when the BCP released which I personally think played a major part in people enjoying the track way more (with literally the only competition standing against it being Shroom Ridge).

If Musty's using the dreaded O word you know it's serious. But anyway, I feel like another big factor to Hideaway's success was that it was basically the saviour of Wave 1. Anyone who did like probably liked it more in the sea of below average and I'm guessing that just carried over throughout the rest of the DLC. I even rated it highly myself and it was top 10 in the game for me. But over time I've become a bit mixed on it. I still heavily enjoy it especially the first half but I'm not really into the top path in the second half since I feel like the wind makes me feel slower. I do still think it's a great track personally. It's very engaging to race on, the ninja stereotype lover in me is very pleased with the aesthetic and as someone who judges the music and the track together, that part with the bass gets me every time. But I definitely could see why it's a B for someone else and think that this is probably one of the first times in a while I've agreed with the statement "overrated".

I respect your opinion on Ninja Hideway. Ironically, I used to absolutely despise this track because I think it was really janky. But then I realized I had what is called a skill issue. Like most of the tracks have. So I started getting good on the track. And it’s now my favorite course in wave I.

This is my favorite track in the game, i love the theming and alternate routes and the hidden shortcut, the music has very good energy, and the graphics arent terrible. I love the way this tracks play and the 200cc shortcut at the end is super cool (which is why you should take the top path.)
@LostBlade7768 ай бұрын
I think this is a fair take personally it doesn't change my thoughts the main reason I like the track so much is because I just think it's really fun to play on and I don't think a track needs to do anything super extra to be really good and fun to play on at least that's my opinion Also I agree with your whole people using the word underrated kinda wrong it reminds me of how a lot of times when people say "mid" they mean bad instead of what it actually stands for which is middle because it's in the middle like it's not bad but it's not good either

My short summary for Ninja Hideaway: best track of wave 1, one of the more experimental osts of the BCP, probably a lil bit overrated compared to the stellar tracks of the base game but still a solid A tier track, whether or not you like it it's definitely unique in its multiple routes.

@summysailar8 ай бұрын
Great video. Now ima say why it's PROPERLY rated. First off, I rate highly ambitious tracks over the plain, basic, and most importantly "safe" tracks. Ninja Hideaway, to me, is honestly the ONLY ambitious track in terms of aesthetic, gameplay, music, and overall charm (not to discredit too much from other newer tracks like Accelerated Toilet). Personally, it excels all aspects in track design. As an og sonic fan, having an up and down path is my kind of game design. I'll only agree with the Shy Guys, somewhat. Hazard wise, yes, they just stand there, but it's still cute. I did have a headcannon for the longest time that I swear I thought they threw shurikens. It would have been so much better if they did. Also, ninjas are still cool no matter what age. You argued the last section with its own up/down path being lackluster. I disagree, and my main counter is the ultra shortcut from the top path. Yes, I'm bringing unintentional methods, but it's still in the game regardless. There is an ultra shortcut after the ramp from the top path if you go diagonal right from it. This can be done in 200cc, and I'm pretty sure on 150cc, but you'll definitely need a mushroom. Not only are ultra shortcuts fun to pull off (as they're much easier than wii's), it rewards you by crossing the finish line faster and it ain't bullshit either it's takes skill to do those shortcuts. Doing this, you can not take the glider to take the top path for the next lap, so the results are different for the last up/down section. Overall, outstanding track design with an ultra shortcut as a cherry on top. I'd personally say after wii, there has been no other track that can compare the the glory of wii's track design until Ninja Hideaway's existence (well maybe Piranha Plant Slide is a good contender). And before you say I'm a wii fanboy, no I played mkwii for the first time last year.

@bluejay21.8 ай бұрын
All non-city Tour courses are not labeled as such. Trying to pass them off as "new" tracks, I guess? Which doesn't make sense since Ninja Hideaway was in Tour since 2021, Merry Mountain was in 2020, "part" of Piranha Plant Cove was in 2022 with the final release in 2023. The "new" tracks in the BCP were datamined Tour tracks from years prior. Always easy to remember. Anything that is labeled as Tour or has no prefix in the BCP are Tour originals. (Even though every track in the BCP was ported from Tour. R.I.P. Piranha Plant Pipeline...)

The moment we all have been waiting for, and it is... pretty great, actually. I can see your reasons as to why you don't love this track, and while those reasons don't really affect me as much, I can definitely see where you are going. If you ask me, the fact that this track is kinda of a square with 3 straightaways is what kills the track from being S tier for me. Sure, in ideas, the straightaways are always showing you something new, but in gameplay it kinda lacks something to really push it into being an S tier, or being by far the best Wave 1 track for the matter (I think it is, but by literally 1 spot). Once again, that is just my perspective. W video as always and if this turns into a series, I can't wait for the next part, because whether I disagree or agree, I know the video is going to be a banger.

As great- sorry I mean as good as this track is… it is like the opposite of toad circuit getting picked when it’s online. for toad circuit, it is one of my least favorite course in Mario kart 8 deluxe and it is always picked online… but when it is 200cc, it goes from like F to a High C because it is a lot more fun to play. But for ninja hideaway, I think it is a high A tier course, but when it is on 200cc, it becomes a high C tier Course. It just doesn’t work with 200cc, and that could be said with some of the other tour courses.

This style of video is really fun in my eyes I know this is already an idea mentioned, but I really REALLY wanna hear what it is that makes grumble volcano, even it's GLORIOUS HD RENDITION, so terrible Cuz I can't fathom anyone seeing it as full garbage (I personally think it's 8 rendition is one of the best) and the wii video really seems to be a bit of an oxymoron? You say that it crumbling is a cool idea, but then you hold a major distaste for the track for the exact reason? Maybe that isn't the point and I need a rewatch, but that's what I took away It would be nice to see in full detail what exactly is wrong with grumble for you
