Why no Ark Polaris?!

Nintendo has announced that Bonerattle Area will be the LAST map we get for Salmon Run in Splatoon 3. On one hand, the map looks very cool, on the other, Ark Polaris was pretty cool too (we don't talk about the Outpost, that one is a lost cause). Well in this video I present a theory on exactly why I think Ark Polaris didn't make the cut.

So this concerns me for other reasons. The fact that this is the final Salmon Run map means that Splatoon 3 is reaching the end of its update lifespan. The odds of getting third kits are not good now. With how bad the current kits we’re getting are… not ideal.

The strangely limited amount of kits they were adding each update makes perfect sense now. They spaced them out so that they would release all second kits right when the game concluded its update cycle

I'd assume they were planning on adding it, but just couldn't figure out how to adjust the map for the King Salmonids without making any major changes. Same thing applies to Lost Outpost.

Feel like tornado probably played a part in it as well. I can kinda see it working on both stages, but both would need some reworks, which would probably take away from their identities.

As much as I wanted Ark Polaris back, everything you said is legitimately correct. It was one of the smallest salmon maps and I couldn’t imagine how chaotic it would get with the harder difficulty, new bosses, kings.. honestly it’d be as big of a nightmare as S3 Marooners Bay. And the lord part, wouldn’t make much sense. It’s a shame Grind Rails aren’t returning on Bonerattle. I would’ve really liked to see em there. Oh well.

Back in Splatoon 2 there was that S. O. S image with golden eggs. After the Big Runs, I assume Salmonid population is in danger. I can see a story mode about that

Honnestly? A story mode where you play as a Grizzco Employee who had their squad get stranded in Salmoid territory would be sick. The main mission could be to rescue the other 3 members of your squad and repairing the old SR boat from S2.

Bonerattle arena looks like it’s the place where the salmonids meet up and get ready for battle. It looks like they’re getting prepared to overthrow the inklings/octolings since they’ve invaded the cities in big run multiple times. I hope Splatoon 4 really takes an apocalyptic approach where the cities are preparing for battle while still being colorful and cheerful.

to be honest if bonerattle arena's hinting at the story for splatoon 4 it seems at the very least way less subtle about it and i think that's kinda nice if there turns out to be some validity in the statement. but! only time will tell

I agree. I think Ruins of Ark Polaris isn’t coming back because of the lore. Lore wise Grizz used pieces of it to build a new rocket. It was also already a very small map. With the increased difficulty and king Salmonids, it’d feel really cramped. Even the Ink Rails wouldn’t help much.

I am hyped up for the next stage for hint of next game. Mechanically I see why now we can’t have the stage… The new stage really so rocking and might new info. I will keeping an eye out. For Mr. Grizz, The story begins but who knew happened. Forgotten danger that lies within Aboard the ARK a genius at heart The creature that learned how to unlock the mysteries of life Future Lillie gotta give Past Lillie alot credit, I was almost right on the details but I was wrong about who. Also it was alot fun writing it and styling it.

final salmon run map, means one final salmon king, it'll be another 4 bosses trend like in splatoon 1 2 3 and DLC. we might as well call it the four maddening salmonid kings as they are much more dangerous than the hugefry. if there is a salmonid king like a small salmon riding on a cluster or giant robot of pots and pans that'll be awesome otherwise they kinda missed the potential like they always do.

I feel the opposite way about it, ark polaris being important to splatoon 3's main story seems like more reason to bring it back. There's no reason for them to not do more with mr grizz, when we now have two dlc's revolving around off the hook and the first two main stories revolving around octavio.

As much as I’m sad ark Polaris didn’t come back, I’m okay with getting these newer completely original stages where we seem to keep going deeper and deeper into salmonid territories. Also at the peak of grizz’s plans under alterna I assume in-lore he just… doesn’t need to defend the Polaris from salmonids anymore. I feel like bone rattle arena could be just as interesting because now we are in the heart of the salmonids, battling in their own arenas now and no longer just on the outskirts of their home. We are invading them just as far as they invade us on big runs and I think that could tie very deeply into whatever they have planned to cap this game off

It’s laziness and that’s pretty much it. If they really wanted to add it and satisfy all the fans who wanted it they could’ve. It’s inexcusable they ported worse stages like Spawning Grounds, Marooner’s Bay and Salmonid Smokeyard instead of the fan favourite stages (and a stage that literally directly relates to the story mode?!) Salmon Run is my favourite mode in Splatoon but they have not done enough to make it distinct from Splatoon 2.

hmm... i like the theory you have for this, Vasko. and it does make quite a lot of sense. each map is a story and has lore towards the world. arc polaris housing Mr Gris and him learning from the world around him is interesting as it does lead up to his final fight with us in 3. it's a very cool connection which i like about the games. if the last map for 3 does tie into splatoon 4, if it does happen.. perhaps the main enemies will become the salmonids and we have the power to play as either an octoling or inkling, after having both made a treaty to not have a war and just splat for fun

It's Um'ami Ruins's form of plaza graffiti, meaning a player drew that 😅. Most stages have plaza art graffitied in certain spots, in Um'ami it takes the shape of rock carvings instead!

For the ark Polaris, it’s sounds like the salmonids just destroyed it and rebuilt it for shaping it like an arena (this final stage), the low tide area is practically similar to the ark Polaris one. However I’m sure the developers changed this map for making it less vertical, because of the new stuff they added with the new game (during the tornado wave, it will be a pain to bring all eggs to the basket in time if it’s on ark Polaris)

As much as I liked Ark Polaris, I hated the high tide layout, because it’s basically a small square where many aoe boss salmonids can easily wipe out the entire crew in a blink of an eye. The ride rails are ok, but you couldn’t use a stingray on them.

Imma throw my hat in and say that ark did not return not because of lore, but because it was more than just kings that would not work. The new bosses are also incapable with the stage because of how vertical it is. Lids were definitely the main culprit because they can lag the entire game plus they barely even function on maps like bay. Ark and lost outpost happen to have actual overheads which lids avoid like the plague on bay. Theres also the unbridled truth that ARK POLARIS WAS A BAD MAP. Sure people think its fun but trying to consistently get quota was very hard in freelance because people kept stalling amd killing bosses at the bottom. No egg throw will bot help because you are throwing up towards the basket which is the same reason why bay is so hard. You have high traffic areas and trying to throw eggs up. I know people are gonna say the rails helped but the rails are so slow that in high hazards they are the main reason we lose because the lag gets that bad. If you want me to go into greater detail i can make a bigger list
