apparently Pettingill and Cole were ideal candidates for what Kevin Dunn wanted to do with the presentation. (not-wrestling) I liked Cole late 90s/early 2000s, but as Vince became more deranged it made Cole terrible with all the dictated lines. no Vince now, Cole is back to what he was mostly. lol I always viewed Pettingill as a change of pace, he was supposed to be not-wrestling. I couldn't remember when he left, that timing lines up perfectly for Attitude Era.

I just remembered watching WWF/WWE Mania, on the USA Network, it was a RAW/Superstars recap show (Smackdown was not created yet), usually on Saturday mornings: with Todd (Pettengill) and Stephanie Wiand. He had a fun and friendly personality. They did a "IYH (In Your House)" minor PPV/PLE. I don't know when Pettengill or Wiand had left the WWE. This was the show prior to Livewire: a revolutionary interactive program, like "Byte This !", in which you could send in questions, via e-mail messages, faxes or phone calls - 5 co-hosts: Jim Ross, Jim Cornette, Vince Russo, Vince McMahon Jr., Michael "P.S." Hayes (as Dok Hendrix) and Sunny (Tammy Lynn Fytch/Sytch); with a cameo appearance of the WWE's senior TV executive producer, Kevin Dunn.

That's what Todd felt like to me. The host of Double Dare. Being around 16 when he first came in, I found him to be kind of lame but looking back now, he did exactly what was asked of him and he was good at it. Very good at it. He deserves more respect and invites to come back and make occasional appearances in WWE (if he wants to).

I’m pretty sure Opie from Opie and Anthony was also from there, idk if they were in school together, or at competing radio stations or the same station but Todd had the time slot ppl wanted, but I’m fairly certain he came up in conversation on Opie and Anthony and it’s on KZbin and it talks about Todd being in radio and then on WWE. Todd's problem was that he was very much rooted in the late 80s and early 90s and fit the company when they were marketing to young kids. He was like an American Gladiators host. Once the Attitude Era got rolling, though, he didn't fit. They were going for an older audience and the guy who seemed at home selling merch for kids was like a round peg in a square hole. I was never a fan because I saw him as part of the cartooniness of that era.

Todd may seem cheesy if you're watching any of his footage back now but his delivery and style was very much of the time and if you have the firsthand context of those days, that was a lot of what we were used to with presenters and hosts for really a lot of things back then. Which, as I think about it now, sounds like the reason he got the gig, Vince and Kevin Dunn always had that desire to have non-wrestling people brought in for stuff like that to make the show look more mainstream.

The problem with Todd Pettingill is that he perfectly represents what Vince McMahon wanted from an announcer. Clear voice. Kind of a dork. Not particularly committed to any narratives as to how professional wrestling is supposed to work. Max Moon is the second coming. Oh, the gimmick is not working. Moon is a phenomenal dork. He also bookended the Akklaim Video Games and Stridex commercials that typically accompanied the programs he appeared on. 90s attitude without any of the rough edges of the 90s. I didn't enjoy his work, but if you like the WWE product, he is kind of the perfect representative of it,
