I spent three weeks in Istanbul à long time ago. It was in autumn 1990 and due to the growing international tensions in the Middle East there were few tourists in town. I spent several hours invited by shopkeepers in Harasta market and one of them made me encounter the Imam of Sultan Ahmet mosque. It was impressive. We had a conversation in Arabic and à little group of worshippers sitting on the beautiful carpets around us were listening with great respect due to the prestige of this man of religion. As I had mentionned that I was interested in Islamic philosophy he clasped his hands and gave orders that I didn't understand because I did'nt speak Turkish at the time and I saw some of the attendants take books from the shelves around the place and put them on the floor. The imam said then to me that I could look at these books and take the ones in which I was interested... I bought a small hereke carpet from the store I was invited to in order to chat and drink tea. One of the employees explained to me that this market was initially stalls for the horses of the Sultan.

Wow beautiful sun shining on clean streets . Beautiful people and beautiful country. I am really enjoying sunshine with beautiful views. I love fresh juices. A Shop you visited looks like there are historic things inside . When you buy things from historic shop they are for decoration and it is remembrance of old times obviously it is not for wearing. If you wear it’s your choice. Historic things are quite attractive for decoration even hat. Visiting historic places is a part of tourism. Obviously people want to know in this modern world what was Turkish history. Ottoman Empire was quite famous history in the world. Today turkey is quite modern country with a lot of modern , historic and religious beautiful mosques.

Actually not. Arasta is, for the places with the many shops that are selling similar items in a place, next to each other. And its origin is Persian, being used in Turkish too but very rarely.

Everytime I visit Istanbul, I visir there after visiting touristic places. The bazaar is well organised and have interesting stuffs and the quality of the items are better but the choice is limited and overpriced. However the bazaar is not overcrowded so tourist can relax and enioy more. Personally I like this bazaar but for certain items, I would rather go to the Grand Bazaar because some shops do have better quality goods and cheaper. Of course if you know the market reasonably well and where to go.
