By reading through the policy details, looks like you can travel freely within the city of Shanghai and provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang, not sure if you can go to Beijing, as it belongs to another visa-free region (the 京津冀 region). But you certainly are not restricted to Shanghai only...
@joey3291 Жыл бұрын
answer from AI: Under the 144-hour visa-free transit policy in China, travelers are generally limited to staying within the specific region where they entered. For example, if a traveler enters China through Shanghai, they are allowed to move within the Shanghai municipality, Jiangsu Province, and Zhejiang Province. Similarly, if they enter through Beijing, they can travel within the Beijing municipality, Tianjin municipality, and Hebei Province. However, travelers are not permitted to travel freely throughout all of China under this policy. The purpose of the 144-hour visa-free transit is to facilitate short-term stays for transit purposes in the specific region of entry.

Many have not even travelled out of their own state/province/country at all and thus have to depend on the biased nature of the media. Go see for yourselves if you are financially able to do so.

A little travel advice, If you're interested in seeing the chinese advancements and history: If you want to explore the 3000 years of history, go to Xi'an. If you want to explore the 1000 years of history, go to Beijing. If you want to explore the last 100 years of China going from colonization to modernization, go to Shanghai. If you want to see modern blade-runner-like infrastructure and seemingly impossible urban planning done in the last 40 years, go to Chongqin. If you want to see the future, go to Shenzhen. That's a very very rough and overall thing to say, and If we add the different landscapes and biomes that China offers, there would be no end to the list. And what's the best thing of all of that? That the whole China has first class safety no matter where you go, so there's nothing like "being in the wrong place at the wrong time" kind of bs, and you are able to freely explore.

Let me correct you. The 144-hour visa is not limited to Shanghai travel. It can be used to travel to any other city in China. As long as you can enter the country smoothly, there are no travel restrictions. It just tells you that you can only stay in China for a period of 144 hours and then you have to leave the country. When staying in a hotel, no one will look at your visa. You just need to go through a check-in process. Even Chinese people who stay in a hotel need to register with their ID card. It is just a formality to check and prevent wanted criminals from entering the hotel.

@idogtv Жыл бұрын
Ah, I caught your trick. You pivoted from "vilifying China" (in reality, it's vilifying the _government_ of China), to Chinese people. The people and the government are two different things. Almost everybody in the west loves Chinese people, it's only the government that many people have an issue with. Online, the trolls like to pretend that criticizing the government is the same thing as criticizing the people. It's not the same thing at all. Nice try.
@tuckerwang7677 Жыл бұрын

@@idogtv The more you pretend to "correctly" legitimize an entire narrative against the label "China" (instead of the CURRENT gov), the more likely Chinese people become the victims of collateral damage. The entire narrative gives people a feeling like Chinese people are culturally subordinate, less enlightened, easy to be manipulated, and are all like trolls. In fact, this is a population of 1.4 billion... 99% of white people can't even name a third Chinese city except for BJ and SH... how can you come to the conclusion that "everybody in the west loves Chinese people"... there is a giant leap of logic. ...
@idogtv Жыл бұрын
@@tuckerwang7677 "China means much more than what its gov says or does." Yeah, that's literally what I said. Did you not understand me? That's my whole point. That's why it's absolutely idiotic for the trolls to bury the difference between China and the government. That's what _I_ said. You just took what I said, reworded it, claimed that you "don't think white ppl differentiate the two" and then acted as if I somehow equated the government with the people of China... That's the exact _opposite_ of what I did in my comment. The trolls are the ones who pretend they're the same. Why did you pretend like my comment didn't differentiate the two, when it clearly did? It seems like you're responding to a completely different comment. You certainly didn't respond to _my_ comment. Because what you said makes absolutely no sense as a response to what I said. Nice try.
@rickarmstrong9660 Жыл бұрын
@@idogtvI understand what you're saying, but the sad fact is that our mainstream media and our politicians have so many Americans convinced that China itself is simply an evil nation, with little or no differentiating between the people and the government. As bad as the Chinese government might be, they do not in any way pose a military threat to us or to anyone. But our politicians seem to be chomping at the bit to go to war with China. Neither China nor Russia comes close to the American Empire for the number of innocent people killed over the past 30 years. America is the most violent, warmongering, arrogant nation on earth.

Great video. I'm a British expat living in Shanghai since 2005, so it was interesting to see Shanghai through a fresh pair of eyes. McDonald's prices are the same ordering from the machines or the counter. If there's a price difference it is probably NOT the same coffee. "Natie" is simply the Chinese translation of Latte, but I think you may have ordered from the McCafe menu which is more expensive than the McDonald's menu (and slightly better quality). The noodle you chose was braised soy sauce beef soup noodles, but the restaurant itself is Chongqing style, which is a city in the south west of China where most of the dishes are spicy.

CN would not be what it is like today if not for the many sacrifices (people suffered/died) early years- before 90s. Their Gov have to come out with certain policies to managed & control >1.4 billion people (yes, Gov cannot make everyone happy). There are 23 provinces & 5 autonomous region in CN. If u stay longer & visit other provinces, u will know that each province is like a "country in ownself", with it own custom-belief, religion, languages, cultures, foods etc (even though they may look similar like any Asian/Mong/Han Chinese), but each with its own "huge & modern capital city for that province alone", huge Int. airport, multiple domestic airports that even bigger/rival that of some real country outside in the world etc. It is not easy for a leader/Gov to manage 1,400,000,000 of it people & growth the country to what it is today (unpopular policies & control). Many countries are "felt threaten & jealous" of CN growth & development, therefore what happens today.

This is literally the first video I have watched about China. After watching this one and your "Uptown" video in Manila, I am feeling a little bit torn. I plan to retire to Asia and do a good bit of traveling within the region. These very upscale areas look incredible. They are not the typical neighborhoods or cities that represent the country as a whole. They are very modern, clean, and tourist attractions. You have to travel outside these areas to see the "real country" you are visiting. But it makes me "torn" because these areas look amazing! Makes me wonder if I want to pay more and live in the tourist area or get a place out in the burbs where life is more similar to the locals and a little more affordable. Thanks for the peek into China, I hadn't really considered it as a travel destination before, but I do now. It looks like a good time, good food, good shopping, and a good experience.

Those food vendors must have been expecting her to speak to them in Mandarin and must have been caught offguard when she couldn't speak the language or read the menu. I was also wondering why she didn't try to speak in Mandarin, but when you said she's Indonesian Chinese, then I understood why. In China, everything is in Chinese characters, and Shanghai has its own unique dialects too, depending on which part of the province you're from. Like Suzhou is an hour's drive from Shanghai, but has a different dialect from Shanghai. Still, if you can speak or read mandarin, you might be able to get by. You'd need to have a pretty good grasp of the language though to communicate more effectively, 'cos in China, it tends to be ALL mandarin and you can't even mix in any English words the way we might do in Singapore. In fact, Chinese people who come to Singapore are probably quite shocked at how we mix English and Mandarin when we say that we are speaking in Mandarin. To them, it's Singapore-style Mandarin. Also, there are words for the same things that are different. It's just like how American English is different from British English, even though it's the same language. You have different English words for the same things. Like tap and faucet, sink and basin, color and colour, lift and elevator, flat and apartment... well, you get the idea. So Chinese people can tell if you are from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore or Mainland China, based on the Mandarin words you use and how you speak it.
@minge910 ай бұрын
Ahh, I was wondering why she didn't speak Chinese lol it makes sense that she's indo Chinese. Many of Google's operations exited China, so Google Maps is largely unavailable in China. Apple Maps works fine. I remember that China's map apps, such as Gaode Maps and DiDi, are available in English. The noodles you ate are called "Chongqing Xiaomian". Chongqing is a city bordering Szechuan Province, and used to be part of Szechuan province, so the food flavour is almost the same as Szechuan. The spicy soup base of the noodles contains Sichuan peppercorns, which contain peppercorn oil that makes the mouth feel numb, a typical feature of Sichuan food flavour. Have a good trip.

Last winter, I followed my wife to China, which was a very interesting trip. I was very happy to meet her family, and we went to many interesting and beautiful places. However, the Chinese customs and the Foreigner Management Bureau/department almost mistook me for a spy. China has very complex regulations for the entry management of foreigners. If you stay in a hotel, there is no problem, because the hotel will report your stay to the Foreigner Management Bureau immediately. But please note!! If you want to stay in a Chinese household, you need to report to the local Foreigner Management Bureau yourself as soon as possible. I held a Q2 visa, and according to the entry application card given to me by customs, Q2 does not require reporting. However, the local authorities determined that I had not reported and had violated the law, and they took me to the Police station for filing and questioning for up to 5 hours with . During this time, they asked me a lot of very private questions, which made me very uncomfortable. The tension between China and the West makes China very concerned about what travelers do during their stay in China. If you really want to go to China, please understand the specific regulations in detail.
I have to admire your courage of wandering into a completely new place without much research and not speaking/knowing the local language! But if you do a little bit research, use some of the local apps (including translation), you surely can enjoy much more about China! Wish you a happy time in China!
