I do genuinely miss Isaac. Especially since Repentance was actually good and a big improvement over the previous expansions. But I can’t be too mad, the man literally made thousands of videos on the same game, I’d be burnt out too by that point. Give it enough time and the same thing will probably happen to SAP maybe.

Yeah i miss isaac because he spent so little time talking about the game. SAP is as close as it gets, but even that is like 80% juice me squeeze me buy me sell me, just doesn't hit quite the same

@@BaneOfXistence4 that’s actually a great point, there was a point pre-repentance where he was playing Afterbirth+ non stop. I guess cause at the time there was some debate as to whether or no Repentance was even going to come out and he was still following tradition. I mean he’s made plenty of Repentance content to keep me satisfied for a while, it’s just a shame cause I believe it’s the best Isaac has been in a long time

Hes so right about item bloat though. Isaac should probably rework item pools to be a more limited pool with a better distribution of damage/defensive/fun items like it used to be, and then you can have that limited pool be seeded like everything else

Yeah I stopped before repentance even came out as well because of this. I reached the point where I was just spam resetting runs in hopes that something fun or interesting came up and it just rarely ever happened. The whole reason I even got the remake was because of the new item synergies and I still think those are fun, but it isn't worth the grind of "this technically isn't statistically terrible" to find the actual fun. Isaac really needs to rediscover its fun factor.

sure, but can it not be its own beauty? The man gave us his 20’s on a whim with a game he wasn’t even sure he’d be playing the next week. NL hasn’t struck me as a super sentimental guy, which I can appreciate, and ending a legacy on a similar whim is a flex if nothing else lol

I feel the same way about terraria, probably my favorite game in the world but after around 2000 hours give or take? I just cannot get myself to even open the game. So him quitting Isaac is understandable. Some people can play a game for 8000 hours and still wake up excited to put 8 more hours into it that day and a lot of people can't

1:42 Man is spitting Facts. I wish the game did not have Enemies Scale HP so much, because it's Boring to have to shoot an enemy for over a minute just because you have no damage. I love Isaac a lot, but it's insane just how much core issues the game still has and it's all about the Damage.

Agree. Also some fundamental mechanics that have always (to my mind) felt unsatisfying, such as you almost always needing money on the first floors and having too much money on the later floors, effectively making some shops rather useless.

It doesnt help with the fact that the whole game got a "buff" in terms of difficulty. The hp scale is one thing, but new damage calculation is what made the enemies even more tanky and like NO ONE talks about it when mentioning "buffs and nerfs" to the game. "Oh look, best items got nerfed, but shit ones have been buffed lololol". Yeah and enemies also got buffed, so we as the player got more nerfed than buffed. I speak from huge amounts of experience. Almost on daily basis, my eden runs are base damage, cathedral, some hp. Whoopedyfuckingdoo!

playing a game daily for almost a decade, and then getting to the end of the most recent expansion and going 'well...this endgame is sure not great' NL has said he finds the balance to be poor, and viewership was down, Isaac is very interesting because there's a million ways items can interact, but several characters almost need a certain level of rng to complete their runs.

Luckily I didn't keep up with the Isaac episodes after a while. Used to watch Rebirth/Afterbirth when he'd upload two runs a day and I'd be on that quite religiously. I'm good for a year or two on Isaac episodes, then I'll probably watch the ones I don't remember again every now and then.

Damage ups in this are like non-existent. Almost every run i have is base damage at the cathedral. I honestly cant blame the egg for quitting. This game straight up was made only to kill the player until your win streak is minus infinity. No fun to be had when you are forced to tryhard every time you jump on the game. I got my dead god 3 times and mods are the only thing keeping this trash alive.

I think Repentance is in a pretty good spot, at least from how much I've played. There's not many runs where it's a no fun here have no damage but 11 HP up and 8 active items dogshit. I honestly think it was a mix of NL having played the game for 4000 hours and thinking that the shitty Afterbirth+ balance continued into Repentance when I don't really think that applies.

"Fun" factor, lol. Before repentance you either got a god item and steamrolled the game or got insane screaming DRY BABE. Repentance fixed that. Shit iters became good, and Omega OP items became just OP. And you can actually win every single run you play by your skills alone instead of getting blessed by Rngjesus.

Legit. Repentance fixed most of those issues and if he had slowed down before repentance came out I don't think he would have burned out as hard as he did. AB+ was definitely the worst state Isaac has ever been in and that's what he played the most of.

My finish line was when I got around to play T. Cain, post rework. Had gone thru completing every character one by one, took me up to 650hrs to reach that point- that character sucked all the fun out of the game for me. Quit then, tried again a few times, still absolutely hated it, then never came back. And so I'm done.
