Hey man! I totally hear ya, I genuinely encourage you to look into the stylistic choices that the director makes in his previous work..specifically the movie The Witch. He most definitely leans a little more on the strange side…so I get it! I really enjoyed this film, went to the theater and saw it twice! But in terms of the sexualization throughout the movie, that just has a lot to do with the original story in general. But not only this; this movie has to do with the devil and rituals, hence why that girl was on that horse, to conjure up a sleeping vampire.
@CinemaSermons13 күн бұрын
@@julesgaffey99 right on, thank you for the response! I tried to check out the witch and it just wasn't for me. Like I said in the video, art is subjective. I certainly won't deny that he's an extremely artistic filmmaker and creates beautiful shots. As far as I know, he does a really good job of making his films historically accurate and depicting cultures of the time very well. I didn't like the lighthouse either. But maybe I'll give this another shot. And thank you for explaining the horse!

I just got home from the "movie." Is it possible to give a film half a star? It was more The Exorcist than Nosferatu. The vampire did not seduce his victims, just slurped and humped on them, which elicited a few titters and giggles from the audience. Nothing felt earned, just dished out in liberal helpings of empty spectacle, everything on-the-nose and obvious. "Ok, audience, this is scary! Feel scared now!!" And it wasn't the least bit scary, just tiresome. I nodded off so many times I lost count-- and I went into the movie fully expecting a masterpiece, after reading all the hype. There was no emotional payoff in scenes that might have been extraordinary if more care had been given to pacing, character development and dialogue. I was surprised at just how much backstory the screenwriter loaded into scenes, which really slowed down the pacing and added to the obvious, clunky vibe. Count Orlock's porn stache really threw me. One second Thomas is riding out of town, the next he's in the vicinity of the castle, mingling with gypsies, with no sense of miles traveled or time passed. The castle itself had no mystery or mystique-- and came off quite stagey, so the sense of terror so apparent in earlier versions of the story was absent here. And the "let's go hunting down the Count" scenes were unintentionally hammy (that means you, Willem Dafoe), with a keystone cops/Mel Brooks/19th century ham stage acting feel to them that was hilarious to watch. I could go on for pages. Don't waste your money on this film. It's just plain bad.

Every piece of art comes down to it's either for you or it's not for you nothing more nothing less also I believe the ending went way over your head she had to hold him there the entire night until the sun came up and there was really only one way to do that

@@MrStreetninja007 I agree, it definitely just comes down to if it's your taste or not. And like you said that goes with every piece of art. As for the sin angle...what if that was the only way to defeat this creature? Would it have been better to let the plague consume the entire city? The way i see it, within the established rules of the story, it was either commit the sin of adultery or let everyone be killed. I would take choice 1.

A movie doesn't _necessarily_ have to have a good plot for a movie to be a masterpiece. That's how I think. I usually appreciate good plots and interesting characters, but some movies can be closer to interesting paintings. I don't think there are any actual rules about what the film should contain. It either works for some people or it doesn't. I haven't seen Nosferatu, so this is just a more general observation on movies. As an example, I could offer the movie 300, which I think was an excellent clip. There was barely any story, the characters were one-dimensional, but I felt like I was watching a kind of painting about stylish violence for an hour and a half. If the film is basically a painting that lasts a couple of hours, it's obvious that it won't work if the subject of the painting is repulsive or uninteresting to the person. Then the work doesn't have much to offer.
@CinemaSermons13 күн бұрын

Kevin, bro, I so much agree with you. I saw it on opening day because I was excited for it and then I was bored out of my mind! I couldn’t wait for it to be over. The caring and cinematography is amazing but the movie sucked! I actually don’t remember past the third act because I was so bored and over it. On another note, I didn’t know you like the terrifier franchise. I watched part 1 for 20-30 minutes and I stopped watching because it was stupid and I also don’t like to watch humans being tortured. Part 2 is free on prime but I don’t know if I should watch it. I’d rather rewatched It part 1, that’s a great movie. Anyway, great review, God bless bro! 🤜🏼

@ his KZbin channel is called Adam Does Movies. At the end of every year I like watching KZbinrs who review movies to see which I’ve seen, agree, disagree or that I need to watch because it interests me from what they say on their top 10, top 10 worst of the year. This year most of the top 10 I watched have Nosferatu in their top 10 except for Adam. The movies everyone raves about are the Substance, Strange Darling, Oddity, and Juror #2 that I haven’t seen and I’m interested in. A lot of people also have Terrifier 3 in their top 10 but I’ll skip that. I was upset that my son and nieces went to watch that garbage. 🤣🤣🤣 And yeah I think you should do a top best and worst of the year if you have time and have reviewed enough films.

To be clear, I’d give this movie 7.5/10. I liked it … didn’t love it. I stumbled across your review though. You simultaneously say that the movie was sexualized for no reason yet you also disliked the theme of sexual repression. Which one is it? You may dislike the reason due to your religion but your logic was difficult for me to follow. Also disliking the ending because a man saw his new bride with another man and “that sucks”? You know that’s kind of the point right. Art is sometimes about depicting things that wouldn’t be pleasant.
@CinemaSermons12 күн бұрын
@@beernguitarz1 thanks for the comment! I said it was overly sexual. Particularly pointing to the scene when Heinrich is in the crypt. Also, when she was possessed by Orlock it was just overly sexual. I thought those didn't drive the plot forward and didn't really add to the themes of repressed sexuality at all. Hopefully that makes more sense!
