ASMR: Why Not Just Enjoy Watching an Aquarium?

I wish I had a camera that could capture what I see with my eyes at home, but here is a glimpse into my tank. Is this referred to as a Riparium?

@@bigbristv That's whats up! I have seen some big ones in the rivers we have here. One called Econlockhatchee creek runs all the way through central Florida on the trails. They were easily over 2' but you can't get close to them. They flee as soon as they detect any movement above water. Sorry bro, I could nerd out about nature all day 😆

It looks great! I keep meaning to get some Brazilian pennywort but I keep forgetting. Every time I see your tank I think I need to go plant shopping. You should look into getting a few otocinclus, they could help a lot with the algae, and they stay small and are peaceful. Just have to make sure you get healthy ones, because they are sometimes starving and don't make it, but if they are healthy when you get them, they live a long time.

@@bigbristv I got lucky and found some healthy ones at a pet supply store last year. I don't have any fish stores nearby, so I have a hard time finding good stuff sometimes! Oh, and I was wondering if your algae is really algae. It's hard to tell from the video, but the color of it looks like cyanobacteria. I know this sounds weird, but if you pull some out and smell it and it smells like mold, it is cyanobacteria. Regular algae doesn't smell bad. If it is cyanobacteria, you can get rid of it with Ultralife blue green stain remover. If your tank is getting some natural sunlight, that will cause that stuff to grow, but if you treat it, it may never come back. I don't know of any fish or snails that eat that stuff. I had it in my planted tank, treated it, and it hasn't come back.

This is really helpful! When I get home I'm gonna smell it and if it's cyano, I'm going to look into treatment. I'm used to red and brown cyano. Thanks again MJ! 🙂 PS: if you want, I can send you some Pennywort Brazilian, just send me an email.

@@bigbristv I was just looking at pictures of cyano in aquariums, and yours definitely looks like it is. That Ultralife stuff works in about 2 or 3 days, the first 24 hours it doesn't seem to be doing anything, but after that it's like a miracle. You definitely need to use an extra air stone while it is working, because it can deplete the oxygen. Before I used it, I watched a lot of videos to make sure I did it right. I'm always nervous about putting chemicals in my tanks. That is very sweet about the pennywort! Are you sure?

@MandyJane123700 thanks and yes! I have that little tank sitting there and after what I cull goes in there it usually gets tossed.
