Mine has a small chip from a knot. If i could do it all over again id get an esee 6. Esee doesnt have as good ergonomics and becker is the pinnacle of ergonomics but is not a good value as people say. An after market kydex sheath and mucarta handles will cost another 100 total. For about 35 bux more you get an esee 6. For 60 more you get an esee 5. Think about it. For what becker gives you (yes its a great knife) they should charge about 50 bux for a bk 2 to break even with esee. Plus esee has the best warranty. Got a bk2, 16, and 9. Think i could have got a bk7 instead of a 2 or 9. Its the closest to the length i prefer. The 16 is great for bushcraft

Dude, if you need to baton a 6 inch log, you need a friggin splitting maul OK? Not a knife. Splitting with any knife should be saved for little kindling and shaving fatwood for tinder. My girlfriend and I each own a bk2 and have none of the problems with it that are mentioned in this video. The sheath doesn't flop, the retention strap has held up no problem, the kydex sheath doesn't dull the blade. Also, that knife barely had any sign of use. Clearly the time was not taken to use it and get to know the knife. Plus, It's not just 1095 high carbon steel. It is what is known as 1095 crovan (or however you spell it) which makes it tougher than standard 1095. It may not fit your preferences but it is not a bad knife. That MTech on the other hand, I broke two MTech knives before I decided to go with Ka Bar Beckers and Esee knives (the Junglas is awesome). Again, it is all preference but next time take the time to actually put the knife through some use before bashing it.

Next you say this Becker sucks (pulls out mtech) I can tell you know what your doing....... The bk 2 was designed for heavy duty workhorse knife and the scales were thus made to hinder rubbing on the hand causing friction that is why Ethan Becker the chef, the joy of cooking chef, designed the handles that way. This was your last comment on one of my videos. "I am living proof of the adage, "better to look the fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt". Sorry for the mix up". I totally support opposing views, that's the only way we truly grow and better ourselves at anything. What I won't do is allow rude or derogatory comments. You can disagree, that's fine and I encourage people to post their thoughts, but this will be your last comment like this moving forward. That's not the way things are done here. So by all means, share your thoughts, but keep it clean and respectful :).
@bashfulbrother9 жыл бұрын
+MarylandRefugee I guess I am curious as to how I have been disrespectful? I simply stated that Ethan has a history of living in the wild, and building knives. Tough to argue with that kind of experience. The other thing is that there isn't one knife out there that can accomplish every task that is necessary. For instance, if I took a 6" Mora and went out and tried to take down a 6" diameter tree, I could do it, but it is going to take alot longer than using say a 8inch or 20in blade. It all boils down, IMHO to practicality. I think that before you can really know a blade or knife, or gun, or car, for instance, you have to test it out. Take it out in the woods. Use it to build a shelter, gather kindling for a fire, cut your support ropes. Then a person can truly see whether the knife has any value or not. I have a BK 2 bought in 2010, I have an ESEE, Several Schrade knives, several mora, some hand crafted, and out of all of them the knives I like best are the SCHF51 and the SCHF37. If I go after bigger firewood, I use an axe.
@MarylandRefugee20149 жыл бұрын
+bashfulbrother re-read your first comment. We're not going to continue on like that. There will always be someone with more experience or more knowledge in anything you do. Always. I'm not debating the fact that Ethan Becker is older, or has more time in the woods. This video is SOLELY to state my opinions on his creation and things I consider to be flaws it in. So from here on, if you disagree with something, disagree with it based on facts or on your own personal experience with said item, and do it with respect to someone else's views and opinions, not on how old you think they are or that someone may or may not be more experienced.

I understand you don't care for the knife BUT how did your 65-75$ BK 2 turn into a $150 knife through your review? You stated that you can find the knife for under $100 in the plastic sheath but then after that you kept saying $150, it almost doubled in price. The price your giving isn't true for the plastic sheath bk2 or the Bk2.2 nylon version, I'm totally not picking on your personal view just the info you gave on price. From what I've heard the sheath has been made with way less glass fibers but I could be wrong. You really picked the wrong knife to diss on cause the BK2 fans are fricken crazier than Mora fans, they are very passionate about that blade. I personally don't own a Becker but I have considered getting the BK10 crewman which is the same length as the bk2 but has a much thinner blade.
@MarylandRefugee20149 жыл бұрын
Yea things definitely got crazy in the comments lol. I don't mind though. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I just think this knife wouldn't EVER be a realistic blade for the people who truly understand survival/bushcraft/camping. For a person who might spend an hour in the woods in the backyard playing around...sure. And as for price, if you get the knife for $80 + $50 for micarta scales + $20-$30 for a new sheath.... You get around $150. Yuck

the bk2 is my favorite all around and hard use knife I own, even over the 9. the thing with the bk2 is stock it leaves a lil to be desired, however with a lil elbow grease you'll have one outstanding knife. I've reprofiled the edge, which I do with every knife I own with the exception of a scandi grind, it performs 100% better. it'll do finer tasks with ease, such as carving and feathering while still being robust enough to take on the harder tasks. if I was told I was going to be dropped in the wilderness and I could only bring 1 knife my bk2 would be my choice without a second thought. people who hate on this knife don't understand it, they expect it to do everything perfectly, which isn't the case. out the box it will do everything you need it to do, but some things it will excel at while others it'll accomplish but be more difficult. like I said thou this is over come by some small modifications, and now my bk2 will excel at pretty much anything I need it to do.
@MarylandRefugee20149 жыл бұрын
It's a cool idea, but as for being dropped somewhere with only one knife I'd take an ESEE 6 all day. Too many factors here to make me disinclined to carry a bk2. Any of the other big channels will cover the same general idea, look at nutnfancy for instance. One of his biggest things in any item he reviews is weight. This knife comes in at 1lbs!!! That's nuts. For an hour or 2 in the woods I might take it out and play around, but if I'm only gonna have one knife in a survival situation... I'm taking an ESEE 6 all day. Great length if you need to baton, good weight, proven reliability, ready to go out of the box. It's really all around spectacular.

look the bk2 isn’t for fine tasks. I understand I’m late but you’re complaining about weird things to me, it’s an absolute workhorse and in my pack it serves the roll as a small hatchet and splitter, if the length is a problem for you adding a little paracord lanyard can lengthen your handle by a few inches giving you that much more leverage while chopping, the sheath it comes with is fine I like the kydex-esque sheath it serves it’s purpose and has great retention, a few simple mods like a leg strap or longer dangler is easy, and really and truly part of my love for the knife comes from just how open it is to customization, the bk2 is a crowbar with a finer edge, you obviously haven’t used it so you’re complaining about aesthetics and what you think you know, you don’t know anything until you’ve used it. sorry if this seems like a rant lol just stating the facts bro

1.) there’s absolutely zero wear on your blade. when you said “you can see the use” I got confused because it’s in virtually unused condition. 2.) blade length is a design feature, one that you have to consider before buying a knife. Giving a knife a poor review in part because of its blade length is pointless. It’s like buying a boot knife and getting mad that it isn’t a sword. Maybe you should just be more selective with what you buy and make sure to get the tools you actually want. If you want a long knife buy one, don’t buy a short knife just to complain about its length. 3.) Your implication that the M-Tech knife will be able to use its length to baton directly through 6 inch logs is ridiculous. It shows that you actually don’t really use your knives for these tasks. That M-Tech is too weak to go through a solid 6 inch log directly down the middle. That knife has questionable steel and even more questionable heat treatment, and on top of that it’s a stick-tang design and a thin blade. Even legit Ka-Bars break when batoning those sorts of logs, since the knife isn’t designed as a heavy-use knife. And if a true Ka-Bar in 1095CV can’t handle those tasks, you can be virtually guaranteed that cheapo M-Tech won’t either. 5.) Your stated feeling about it not being a “working knife” is probably due to the fact that you haven’t actually worked with it. The coating is new looking, and I can say from my own experience with the BK2 that the coating does wear off after any real amount of use. The coating on mine is almost completely worn off the blade, and I’ve only owned it for about a year and a half. Overall I’d recommend actually using your knives before reviewing them. Your BK2 looks like it’s been through about 30 seconds of use.

Yeah, the BK 2 has a shorter barrel .... but the problem with the other one is that if you try to Baton wood on it, you might blow it into pieces. It's a fucking MTech. a couple strong swings and that thing is a Jiggsaw Puzzle.

You can’t review a knife and say the blade is too short!! They tell you how long the fucking blade is before you buy it, you can’t then complain about it.

There are many things to do with a knife other than chopping up wood where the Becker is perfect. I'm a carpenter and I use the BK2 and don't baton wood

It’s for survival. Worst case scenario. You can make it happen. If not go ahead and carry around an axe or how about a chain saw

He just bought the knife and they won’t let him return it so he takes it out on the blade! What a Chach! It has absolutely no sign of use on the Bk2.

I have a bk2 and the first thing I did was modified it for my comfort, no mass produced knife will fit anyone's comfort level right out of the box. I stripped the coating off and tweeted the edge a little, made it a little finer and now it carves and feathers just as well as a BHK H1. For common sense use this knife will outlast you.

I agree and disagree. Instead of upgrading, buy Essee. I Pull Mountain bike inner tube over the handles. Insert your knife like a Samurai sword by sliding it in along the spine so you do not dull the blade. I buy BK knives to use instead of fancy looks. I don't upgrade because I just want a good knife. I prefer the crewman because it's thinner an a British MOD for a thick and longer knife.
@johnnyra24376 жыл бұрын
The Becker bk2 and the Esee 5 have they exact same size blade. If you want to get technical... the Becker bk2 is actually a better steel with a heat treat that's just as good as the Rowan HT on the Esee. You may have to upgrade the sheath, but the handle design on the Becker is much better than the Esee. If the scales are too slick for you, wrap the handle with Wilson tape. Smh...

All knives suck for people who don’t know how to use them...
@hoosierarcher6 жыл бұрын
Your reasons not to get one seem petty. Putting a bit of paracord on the sheath to tie it down isn't a lot of work. The KaBar BK 2 is a strong, well made in the USA knife. Yes it could use a better sheath; but that is true of many knives from many knife makers. Buying replacements for grips and sheath can be done over time to spread the cost out. Most folks in bushcraft and preparedness almost always replace sheath with custom kydex. A lot replace scales with wood of their own making. They make it a project to make a knife unique to them that meets their needs. Such projects give them a sense of accomplishment and gratification.

BK22 is basically a BK2 with the nylon sheath. A lot of survival experts prefer a knife of this size over larger blades because you can control a medium/small sized blade better than a larger one. I do a lot of camping and never had problems with a 4 to 5 inch blade, I actually prefer it to larger blade lengths. But at the end of the day, the knife on you is the best knife.

I completely understand the bashing because he definately does not know enough about Ka-Bar knives or its History. If he did the video would have never been made. It is his opinion but something tells me this is a test for click bating titles. If it isn't then this poor lad is in for a rough life and needs to study more before posting such ridiculous observations. And Sacrilege by putting a MTEC next to that Ka-Bar. Just poor decisions.

There is nothing wrong with this knife except that YOU do not like it ,because you don't think it is long enough. Well as a user of many blades in many scenario's over about 40 plus years I say your opinion of the much loved BK 2 sucks you need more experience with smaller blades and survival situations .so get out there and come back in about 10 years or so and try again.

Lol, comparing an American made KA-BAR BK2 to a Chinese M-Tech, spend a week out on the woods with that M-Tech and let us know how it holds up...
@adambaxter21072 жыл бұрын
Aside from everything else being pointed out in the comments, I'll just add: Neither the BK2 or ESEE 5 were designed as "bushcraft" or woodsman knives. The ESEE 5 was designed as a military "jump" knife meant to do just enough to keep an operator alive with its main requirement being that it was indestructible. The BK2 is basically Beckers version of the same thing.

Where did you get the price of $150 ???

I don’t know anyone who would use a BK2 to baton. Any outdoorsman or survivalist knows you only use a knife to baton as a LAST RESORT. BTW- Your “bigger knife” is an Mtech knock-off? Seriously?!?

That knife is a badass! But u have to try it out when camping in the woods. Mora on the hip and the big knife in the backpack and you are ready for everything. Just my opinion after 30 years of bushcrafting.

Try to use it first. By the looks of your blade, that knife sleeps in a drawer.
