Thank you for talking about this! I am Taiwanese American and often have to explain Taiwan's political situation to others because they do not know this part of history, but for Nymphia to so openly claim a Taiwanese identity is so important! Oftentimes it feels like we are not even allowed to have our own identity, but we do have our own identity, our own distinctiveness, our own culture and habits and traditions, so to see that reflected on a show with such a large audience made me feel seen as a Taiwanese person. I think the reason so many love Taiwan is our openness and our freedom. Thank you so much for loving Taiwan!

Taiwan is the most beautiful and peaceful country on earth, and its people are are equally beautiful, kind, and generous... It is a pure land, a loving mother, that's why we call it TaiWomb. And its harmonious existence is constantly threatened by a big bully who wants to overtake and rip its culture apart. It's a battle of light and darkness. Only the Taiwanese and those who know Taiwan understand how important this win is. Amituofo! ❤

Thank you for your detailed analysis of the lip synch! l watched it at least ten times and still haven't had enough of it. I am Japanese (and a long-time viewer of the show since Season 4) and overwhelmed with emotion that an _East_ Asian queen finally won the title. It means so much to the East Asian diasporic community, whether queer or not. Given the current visibility of the show in popular culture, Nymphia could evolve into an international star. She has that "it" quality.

All of the contestants accused Nymphia of faking her lack of confidence but I just think she exhibited a common trait amongst East Asians - - we always worry we’re not good enough (even when we’re kicking ass). That being said, she was the epitome of confidence during the Finale though!

I really didn’t like they way they edited that! It was clear she was just anxious (even tho she’s amazing) I hated the way they were always so dismissive of her worries! I was aware of Dragrace of course but I admit I never watched it - until Season 16. Stupidly, I rarely thought of drag as anything but niche, off-beat entertainment. But it's so much more - Pride, Inclusion, Art, Culture, Politics, and of course Entertainment. From the entrances, I thought - OK - Nymphia should win. She is just next level - Modern, inventive, creative, and so likable - while staying culturally rooted. But it wasn't until the Bubble Tea reveal in the Finale that I knew - " OK - she's got this" . Congratulations Nymphia

Even though your point around 9:45 was clearly established, I don't think Sapphira felt like She deserved to win for the reasons you stated. She knew she was a competitor and has to work for it as much as Plane Jane and Nymphia. She's also worked with them in the werkroom and she knew they were fierce competitors. All the Queens after the ball learnt hard not to underestimate Nymphia. Then she shocked them again in the girl groups. So they all knew she's got it. Roll back to the episodes in the season. We never saw it in the edit anywhere, neither did Sapphira in her run throughout the season showed that she deserved it because she's the quintessential old school drag excellence. Even when producers tried to set her up when she lost snatched game to plane Jane. She handled it so smartly and moved on. That aside, Nymphia worked so hard for the finale and it showed. Making it so easy for production to justify her win cos the work is showing and the receipts were clearly there. Even Sapphira as great as she is and tried her best, she would definitely agree and send the best of support and love to Nymphia.

you said that like sasha colby, nymphia had an advantage because she never lipsynced before finale but sasha lipsynced in the lalaparuza her season -- the one where she beat anetra. we knew she could slay and had already beat her final finale opponent. i think for this season they were going for a more sasha VELOUR edit, especially because i feel they downplayed her throughout the season in confessionals and screentime until the end. thing is, unlike in sasha velour's season where they assumed shea would win, this season had already filmed the season AND finale before the first episode aired so i find it especially interesting that nymphia got so little screen time with them knowing she would win. again, going for a sort of surprise underdog edit.

You lost me at, 'The final lipsync decides the winner.' Social media likes on the RPDR account posts with the #Team[Queen] pictures before the finale, in the majority of cases, has been the indicator of who the winner will be. The online support for Nymphia grew throughout the season, and even before the Finale, it was looking pretty strong for her - just a massive fanbase
@igotbeans6 ай бұрын
Wrong. If it was about social media support, Kim would have won 8, Jaida would have lost 12, and Gigi would have won. If it were just based on track record, Willow would have never won with just 1 win, Sasha V. would have been Monet’d at the s9 LSFTC and Shea would have won. It was was always and will always be whoever the fuck Ru chooses. It helps to be his favorite type of drag queen (funny, fashion forward, professional but NOT theater gay professional, and if you dont mix your fashion eras) but a trait he likes even more is someone who can expand his empire. He saw the global reach Nymphia had and it’s what edged her in over Sapphira even tho Ru clearly favored Sapphira more (as she should, Spphira is incredibly talented and is the perfect mix of qualities Ru loves). But just like he did with crowing Bob, he saw beyond what the queen did on the show and what they could become after. Sasha Colby’s win inspired an entire generation of trans youth. Bob, Trixie, Jinkx, Monet all have vast online clout and even broadway and hollywood clout. Ru picked them as winners all for different reasons, some of them weren’t even popular on their own season (I WAS IN THE TRENCHES ON REDDIT FOR BOB DURING S8 DONT YOU TRY TO GASLIGHT ME INTO THINKING THE FANDOM HAS ALWAYS LOVED HER) but they all ended up expanding the show’s reach and therefore his own influence. It’s not about what fans currently want, it’s how many new fans can the show attract.

As a drag race fan, all of this made sense, but your video makes less sense for non viewers of RPDR. You should probably have briefly explained what "snatch game" is, for example. If this video is only for RPDR fans, then some of the information here is extraneous. Just my two cents of critique
@Emile.gorgonZola6 ай бұрын
Because you're making a video about RPDR, you're also going to get lots of random new viewers (hi), so it might have paid off to explain her cultural references to those unfamiliar too. For example, boba is from Taiwan, the balloons were boba pearls, and she was actually wearing a qipao ("what is a qipao", some would ask) before her final outfit.
