Commercial guys are lucky to get oil and lube changes every two or three months. Send the oil out to Blackstone Labs and have it tested after each oil change and use this information to establish reasonable oil change intervals.

Outboard motors have been king in the freshwater world for a long time because most people have their boats on trailers. The boats in the marinas are now outboards because of fuel cost and ease of maintenance. It's hard to find someone to work on an inboard now.

I agree with your reasons outboards became more popular but here are a few more. Outboards became more powerful over time. In the 70's and 80's if you wanted a 300 HP engine you had to have an inboard. Also, 2 stroke outboards waste about 30% of their fuel, pumping it out the exhaust valve prior to ignition so if you're boating offshore, the fuel expense was much greater than with an inboard. In the 90's most outboards were 150-200 HP but by the 2000's 300-400 HP outboards were available and now 600 HP outboards are available so bigger boats can be outboard powered creating increased space in the boat. 4 stroke outboards improved fuel economy similar to inboards. Outboards are easier to repower so running in salt water, outboards have advantages. In addition to being able to trim them out of the water, they are easier to flush saltwater out improving longevity. Outboards are easier to service and in northern climates, are easier to winterize reducing cost over time (outboards remain more expensive initially). Power to weight ratio is less with outboards. I had a Cobalt 226 with a Volvo Penta sterndrive with DuoProp. It was 280 HP and weighed 1200 lbs. I now have a Regal LX2 with a 250 HP Yamaha which weighs 600 lbs. The reduced weight more than makes up for the 30 less horsepower but it is lighter and easier to tow because of weight reduction improving tow vehicle fuel economy. The roller vs. bunk trailer argument is old with many invested in the discussion. Roller trailers if set up properly distribute weight as well as a bunk trailer. The Cobalt above sat on an EZ Loader roller trailer for 25 years and you could spin the rollers with the boat on the trailer with one hand. Not much weight on the roller. Bunks are supported at fewer locations than rollers but have more overall surface area in contact with the hull. The biggest reason to buy one vs. the other depends on where you boat. If you have a shallow ramp, rollers are better. But rollers don't last as long in salt water as bunks do and are much harder to maintain. On a deep ramp, retrieving a boat on a bunk trailer requires less effort than a bunk. I had an electric winch on my roller trailer. Don't need one on the bunk trailer.

3000 hours. I could only have hoped for that many when I repowered … evinrude gen2 250. 2019. 400 hours motor blew , soon as I got it back , 2nd time going out lower unit is done …. Honestly afraid to take it out again because my last 3 trips cost 10 racks 🤯

Unfortunately you really need a Yamaha or mercury to be reliable
