Just my thoughts regarding Vader's mind before he got to know about his son. 1. Even if he hated Palpatine with passion, he was the only thing he had left. 2. Why he never bothered to redesign his suit in secret so it would be better and maybe more comfortable could be that he wanted to punish himself for letting his wife and baby die and how he betrayed what he once was and the ideals he held before starting to succumb to the dark side. 3. He saw it as his destiny to forever be a slave. To be fair, his final rebellion against Sidious was the only time he was truly free as he first was a slave to Gardulla and then Watto. Later, maybe not a slave, but he wasn't exactly free either within the Jedo Order. And lastly he was pretty much Palpatine's attack dog.

He would’ve had a water tube and feeding tube in the helmet as well. Anakin’s early Clone Wars outfit was inspired by his Darth Vader suit. The helmet and mask were inspired by the Samurai helmet with Oni mask.

So to speak, yes. He had frequent treatments in the bacta tank, bacta having antibacterial and restorative properties, which would have cleansed his wounds and help them heal, such as they did. Im also sure that while he was in bacta therapy, his suit was cleansed and sanitized.

Anakin/Vader was pretty much dead after the duel on Mustafar. It is why Obi-Wan left because he felt nobody could have survived that at Anakins level of training. What Obi-Wan should have remembered is how Maul was presumed as being dead but through the darkside he survived. Anakin is basically Robocop in that suit except instead of a robot with a few chunks of a person like Murphy, Vader is a person being kept alive by a built-in life support system. A clear-cut sign of this is in Episode 6 RotJ when he is talking to Luke, and Anakin begins to show signs of returning but if you look closely, it is almost the same reaction as Robocop had when he tried to override a prime directive. This is why Anakin died immediately after killing Palpentine. Anakin violated the prime directive and the machine that kept him alive shutdown. I do not know if it was insulting to him because the fiction did not show this in any chapter. I would imagine his hatred is having to depend on the Emperor in order to survive. Being a tether and somewhere deep down inside he probably feels like General Grievous 2.0.

This raises another plot hole introduced by the Prequels: Anakin was an engineering prodigy from a young age. Darth Vader should have made a far superior suit in his spare time, and it should have kept him alive through Episode 6.

I wouldn’t say plot hole. Plot hole suggests an actual inconsistency or gap in the plot. Vader lost a lot of passion for pretty much anything. Why create when all he was good for was destruction?

The problem was that he was essentially entombed in the suit. It became apart of him. The cybernetics and life-support were all in one. The mask and helm, robe and cape, boots and gloves and control panel could be removed and changed. But the parts that most mattered were fundamentally fused into him, and prevented healing. Had they practical means back then, Lucas probably would have his cybernetic limbs,.. I’m not sure how to say,.. but something like grievous’.

He did design a new suit but the problem was how would he get in it. To transfer to the new suit required disconnecting him from his life support system and reconnecting everything to the new suit. There was a good chance he wouldn’t live through the process. He ultimately decided it wasn’t worth the risk. Plus, the pain and suffering of the suit increased his power in the Dark side and it was the healing power of the Dark side that kept him alive on top of the life support systems.

But, while he could make up for some of short comings via the Darkside, he could only keep that up for so long. Try to overwhelm you opponent, then put some space between you while you recoup your energy and for the negatives from the stims to filter out.
