Perhaps the huge loss of midichlorians has something to do with it as well. Palpatine would be searching for a force signature of a certain strength and Maul having been cut in half would SIGNIFICANTLY diminish his abilities in the force

Similar issue with star trek and the warp speed scale. Sort of like Anakin relates to the original warp scale, but Maul coincides with the revised warp scale. So in essence, Anakin rates a "warp 9"... which is pretty high. But "classic warp 9" , is only warp 7.1 on the revised scale. So Maul could rate a 7, and Anakin could rate a 9... but there's a conversion factor to take in to consideration, a "recon factor), which in this case would be a " recon factor 2). So when you compare Ani and Maul, you have to convert one or the other first. By a recon factor of 2. From Ani's to Mauli's, or vise-versa... like Fahrenheit and Celsius. Anakin is 32°f and Maul is 0°c. Either way, it's a snow ball fight.

That's how I see it. He never cared to take Maul past the point of just a sith Assassin. Qui Gonn was one of the ones he feared most from the Jedi Order, as he wasn't blinded by the Dogma and pride like the rest of the order. So Palpatine knew he would catch on to the scent and smoke palpatine out. Maul eliminated that threat, therefore serving what would have been his purpose as a sith assassin, palpatine was not threatened by Obi Wan so it wasn't a huge deal he was left alive. And like mentioned had already identified what would be his next 2 actual apprentices. He just didn't care basically as what was ultimately his goal was accomplished, past that is whatever.

Ive always found it extremely interesting how Obi-Wan never felt Anakin’s conflict with Mace Windu or the moment he turned to the dark side through the force. If Ashoka and Yoda did, plus Sidious feeling he was in trouble you would expect Obi-Wan to feel something. Thoughts or future video?

I think Sidious was afraid Plagueis hadn't died: feeling as though something was off instead of enjoying his moment, and feeling some remorse at killing his master. Fear clouded his mind, and he never sensed Maul was in trouble Of course, Papa Palpatine is too proud a Sith Lord to admit it 😉

Funny that Sidious wished Maul would've killed Obi Wan and not gloat when that's exactly why he died. He didn't just kill Luke. He wanted to brag and show Luke how weak he was. He died very similar to Maul if you think about it, well if Maul was dead lol They both were struck down because they were so sure they had already won.

Even if he did Maul was too damaged up physically, mentally, and emotionally to the point of insanity to be of anymore use after his defeat and he had Dooku as a insurance apprentice in case Maul got crippled, arrested, captured by The Dathomirians, Or Died yeah.

he didn't care that much about him. he used maul to get rid of qui gon and turn dooku, who was a jedi master and a prodigy (compared to a really skilled jedi assassin who was an apprentice nevertheless). I'm 100% sure they met afterwards and that palpatine toyed with maul mind to get what he wanted, but he wasn't his apprentice anymore.

This is how I see it... Maul is like a Dune-Buggy that you only intend to use for Dirt-Racing - it's going to get scuffed up, dirty, maybe even roll and crash - but it's an acceptable loss because it serves its purpose. After that, you just collect on insurance and get another one... Vader was like a brand-new Italian Sports Car that you've been planning to get for 20 years. You finally drive it off the lot and can't wait to check-out it's potential. Yet before you really have a chance to drive it, you can't help but get a sense of dread in regards to it - your mind starts actively assuming that the worst is going to happen. And because you care more about it, you're more attuned to those suggestions... And unfortunately for Sheev, he had to wait _another 20 years_ for a potential _insurance policy_ to pay-off the wreck that is Vader.

Wasn't Palpatine "hiding" his presence in the force during Maul's death? And during Vader's change, Palpatine didn't need to do that, the cat was out of the bag. Can't see in or out when hiding from people in the force. Look at "Legends" (I hate using that) and Ben "hiding" in the force through sear instinct. They couldn't sense him, and I bet the reverse was also true. Too bad Darth Caedus (Jacen Solo) didn't go into details when he did the same. And Maul was CUT in half, went mad with that spider body. Darth Sidious senced many powerful force entities and dispatched people (including Maul) to deal with them. So I imagine Maul was so crazy, he didn't feel the same way in the force. And once he got his wits back, he hid himself, as he had to be taught that as part of his initial training. And he either let it slip, or Sidious was just too powerful and saw through the hiding when he heard about a new person taking over Mandalorian troops, or using the force himself gave himself away. But had some different ideas, and man, this is all fiction...some fiction Disney now calls "Legends". They need to do a Bobby/Pa Ewing dream by Leia and wipe out the three sequels. Makes the whole Superman flying sequence by Leia at least make sense, she was dreaming.....

This is explained in more than one novel, Sidious, and in his moment Plagueis, had to spend years living in a planet nexus with hundreds and even thousands of trained force-sensitive Jedis around the whole place, they were so good in hiding their presence by cutting themselves shortly of the force and avoid to let their powers got free unless is neccesary since their extremely powerful dark essences would be detected intanstly; this almost got Plagues killed once since he was caught off guard for not checking up the future danger and the presence of others with the force, so when Palpatine became Chancellor this became the everyday rule, and he used their powers only after making neccesary preparations. The fact that Sidious didn't knew about Maul is also a fact, this was showed in a comic made by the TCW show runners where Sidious is told about his revival by Anakin, and he amost broke character from the surprise, and is not like some people here imply that it could have been unnoticed since Maul was too "weak", when he returned Maul generated a force convergence that was felt across the whole galaxy by Anakin, Obi-Wan, Yoda and Dooku, who despite being a dark-user felt it as a too sinister rising and is actually more powerful than in TPM Also, I wonder why always in this type of videos the explanations made by the comments always answers using the typical Maul's lowball, that Sidious saw Maul as a treath is a undeniable truth clarifed by Sidious himself, by Dave Filoni and by a bunch of sources, Maul created his own Empire from nothing, he was a Sith Lord trained by himself, he knew his plans and he was amassing influence and power, Sidious had to step in three differents ocassions to stop him and even after his death Crimson Dawn with the plans of Maul almost left the Empire in the vergue of disaster. I would just left a few statements of a lot there are that reflect this: Dave Filoni: ''Maul is a super dangerous threat. Because he has been trained for years. He’s really adept. So he’s kind of in the Vader realm. He’s well trained by Sidious in all types of Sith ways. Not the least of which is manipulation.'' The whole MAul thing just never made sense in Starwars. This is as good as any to explain a piece of it. Lets be honest Maul knew Palpatine's fear of his Mother the ruler of the night sisters. In any other universe he would have go back to her and learned everything he could from her knowing it was the key to beating his own former master. After all she was one of the things in the galaxy Palpatine feared more then anything.

I was just thinking about this when watching Clone Wars again recently, I agree about Maul hiding his force signature when he returned and was building power, that would make sense as he wouldn't want to draw any unwanted attention. I think that when Maul was defeated by Obi-Wan on Naboo, Palpatine could have dismissed him completely from his mind as he perhaps never expected Maul to really win or wouldn't have cared if he survived as he needed Dooku to lead the Seperatist movement anyway which Maul would have been ill-suited for.

I take it as palpatine knew maul was still alive but didn't care. He was old news. Maul didn't even have the humility to face him in his failure. Either maul would find his own path or slip away into nothingness. Either way maul didn't interfere so palpatine never had to go out of his way.

I think Maul went insane and sort of became someone else after his nearly death, "killing" his presence in the force bit like anakin (like stated in the video with ahsoka feeling anakin presence dying) and then when savage found and brought him home mother talzin most likely hid his force presence with her magic or similar through "his revival" knowning full well that without that sidious would of felt his presence again.

The signature hiding theory makes a lot of sense, since palpatine surely must have mastered it to not only avoid being detected by any jedi but even gain their trust and so well that not even yoda sensed anything bad about him. So perhaps he taught maul how to do it aswell.

I always assumed Sidius did know but just didnt care until the point where he confronts Maul and Savage in The Clone Wars. After all, the main thing that provoked Sidius was that Maul had become a rival to The Sith. Had he just founded a crime syndicate and stuck to being a warlord rather than training a Dark Side Apprentice I honetly think Sidius would have left maul to his own divises.

Though I admit I kind of like the idea of his return, I just wish it had been done in a much better manner such as a clone Sidious had created rather than the resurrection of a Sith that was cut in half. It completely takes away from Obi-Wan’s victory over Maul, and how special it was him defeating the first Sith Lord seen in a thousand years. Still great episodes, and made for a great story. More information was definitely needed on Darth Maul, but would’ve been better if they found a different way to display that without taking away from what Kenobi did.

I always believed it was because sith and Jedi both form attachments however Jedi attachments are more personal like a bond, obi wan and Anakins connection to each other would alert each other of danger but sith are more self absorbed. If you see the difference between maul and Anakin, maul was built from the ground up to be an assassin since the day palpatine took him but when Anakin came into the picture he left him to train as a Jedi knight forming a more personal bond with him treating him like a son. I truly believe that connection was the reason palpatine sensed Vader was in danger because at the time Anakin didn't resent palpatine for the death of padme because he didn't know what he did until after his procedure, overall I just think palpatine looked at him like a son he never had and Anakin looked at him because he was the father figure that stepped in for qui Gon that made their bond so strong in that moment

The Sith CAN NOT cheat death. They can keep the ones they care about alive and prolong their lives but they can't cheat death. So it's easy Darth Maul used Darth Sidious teachings of the ancient ways of the Sith using the Sith power, as I just mentioned, he was able to stay alive long enough till he could physically repair himself. It's all explained right in the movies and the Clone Wars. All you have to do is pay attention to everything said and it's easy to get. Know long explanation it's very simple. Just like at the end of Attack of the Clones you find out that Dooku is actually Darth Tyrannis the man who hired Jango Fett as the Clone template but to what end nobody knows until we get to Revenge of the Sith. Everything is right there in the movies and the Clone Wars I think people go way too far in making these explanations that are already there way too complicated.

That depends which continuity you go with in Legends you are right but in Canon Maul before the handicapping was meant to be a successor since he had a higher midichlorian count then Talzin and likely Sidious own but that changed when Maul got the split alive or not and when Dooku was on his way to turning anyways and who was currently more powerful but did not have pre crippled Maul potential but still pretty high then Anakin had the highest count of all and planned to replace Dooku thirteen years later anyways so even if Maul won on Naboo he would of been replaced later by Anakin yeah.

Where does it say that Plagueis died at the same time as Maul? Cos shouldn't the fact that Palpatine wasn't the true sith master have made it into the Phantom Menace if so? All we are told in the film is that ''only 2 there are...so was he (Maul) the Master otr the Apprentice?'' If Plagueis was still alive, the answer would be 'neither', yet we are told by the film that he has to be one or the other and not that this may not be the case. If the info isn't made clear in the film, then does it count? In short, this contradicts info from 1st tier canon. Makes far more sense that Palpy secretly trained Maul, and once M was 'ready' in his eyes, killed Plagueis BEFORE TPM or even (considering Palpy's age) killed Pl before he even trained Maul (depending on how old M was when his training began).

The Star Wars movies were poorly written. This is just one of the many contradictions that has plagued this storied franchise. Too many things happened off screen that left many viewers confused. In addition, introducing characters created solely for marketing that lend no advancement to the plot. We are starting to see this happen in the Marvel movies as well. When a movie franchise becomes successful, movie studios will try to save money on hiring talented writers. This is all good in the short term for making money. But when a casual movie observer began noticing glaring contradictions, there is a problem.

I like Star Wars but a lot of this is just fragmented writing. Different writers at different times not considering or caring about consequences with other writings. The sequel trilogy is an example.

The amazing thing is that the more I realize how strong Maul actually was, the more I can appreciate how strong Sidious and Qui-Gon were. Yes, Qui-Gon lost - but that had more to do with 1) not being prepared to fight an actual Sith Lord and Assassin who had trained his entire life to be equal or greater than Jedi Council members in lightsaber combat and physical combat, and 2) Qui-Gon was far more occupied with helping others than amassing his own power and prestige. He was selfless and emphasized living for others and serving others. Finally, 3) the close quarters space where Maul finally killed Qui-Gon was deeply disadvantageous to Form IV, and in conjuction with Qui-Gon being physically tired, put Qui-Gon at a massive disadvantage. I actually do firmly believe that Qui-Gon had Maul dead to rights when he shoulder-slammed Maul, and followed up with a backhand that send Maul careening off the edge of a catwalk, only to fall several stories on his back. Dazed and momentarily stunned, Qui-Gon lept down next to Maul -- a dangerous move, but obviously Qui-Gon sensed Maul's state -- and held his lightsaber up to Maul's face. We are left with two options 1) Qui-Gon meant to behead Maul, or chop Maul's head in half 2) Qui-Gon meant to cause Maul to surrender, which is totally in-character for Qui-Gon Since Maul refused to surrender, the duel continued: at this point, we see Qui-Gon at full strength, without having to worry about Obi-Wan being struck by his wide, powerful strokes and quick parries. He pushes Maul backwards (which Maul "allows" but in reality probably was forced backwards, yet sought to turn it into an advantage) which is impressive. We have to remember that Qui-Gon was trained by Dooku, who took great pride in lightsaber prowess. And showing how easily Sidious took care of Maul and Savage at the same time is ultra impressive. The implication of that duel help clarify other duels. The only individuals capable of doing the same were arguably Yoda and Dooku.

Sidious' ease of handling Maul and Savage was due to his superior force prowess. In terms of pure lightsaber combat, Maul isn't that far off the top (TOP) dogs. Which was well evident in their one-on-one after Opress was disposed of. Maul can hold his own against Mace Windu. He's frequently underrated by the community for plot reasons.

He was "top tier" in the sense that the Jedi which the movies focused on were all "top tier" -- but nothing in the new canon suggests that Mace is anything more than a high level Jedi around the same combat prowess as Dooku, Qui-Gon, Plo Koon, Obi-Wan, and RotS Anakin, Darth Maul, and Vader. I firmly believe that Yoda, Sidious, and Kirak Infil'a were all superior duelists than Mace. Sidious simply used Mace as a tool to manipulate Anakin; which becomes extremely obvious if you watch the movies in a row and let go of your biases.

Maul did not simply shrug it off. He went through over 10 years of torturous insanity with spider legs; only the Night Sisters' magic could restore him. Sabine shrugged it off. Reva shrugged it off. The Grand Inquisitor shrugged it off. But Maul had it VERY tough.

Can somebody please catch me up or explain this to me. Anakin lost all his limbs and needs a respirator to live and there for lost lots of his midchorians. How was Maul able to stay so strong in the force after litterally being cut in half. It seems like a contradiction.

Because Maul was not burned up like Anakin/Vader was plus he also had The Dathomirian magics instored in him from Talzin and her followers the magics restored Mauls mind and potential without the magics Maul would not have been able to have those things yeah.

Perhaps he did sense that Maul was still alive. In Legends (former EU) Palpatine did sense a very strong dark sider somewhere in the galaxy. However he could never find it. Perhaps it was the leader of Crimson Dawn that he felt. I read somewhere that the original idea of George Lucas for episode 7, was to have Darth Maul return as Dark Lord, and have Darth Talon as his apprentice.
