let me tell you about my experience with the ambulance service. I had fall while out walking in the country, and badly injured my leg, I called for an ambulance, and was told that, due to my location, a road ambulance wouldn't be able to get to me and they would have to send an Air Ambulance helicopter. The helicopter arrived within 10 minutes and I was given pain relief and my leg straightened and splinted by the Paramedics. They asked me where I lived and flew me to the nearest emergency department to my home, where my injury was assessed and it was decided that surgery would be required in the next couple of days. My leg was immobilised with a splint and I was given crutches and then taken home in an Ambulance. A couple of days later, I was picked up at home by an Ambulance and taken to the Hospital, where I had the surgery, I was kept in the Hospital for 5 days and returned home, again by Ambulance. How much did this cost me ?, £0.00, not a single penny, because I live in England.

And you also just pay 10€ even if you're being transported via helicopter - which is done either because you're in a remote area or because you have severe injuries that should be treated in a specialized hospital which can only be reached in time via helicopter... I really don't get why the USA has such a third-world standard health care system. Not saying that it's perfect in Germany, because there are definitely some flaws, but at least you could try to set up the system that works for everybody, couldn't you? ... What this country needs is more public education on what actually requires an ambulance for E-M-E-R-G-E-N-C-Y transport, vs what is acceptable to go by other means, eg Uber or the 3 perfectly functional cars in your driveway. This would reduce the amount of abuse of the ambulance services, resulting in less bogus transports, fewer people taking rides for the flu and skipping out on the bill, in turn lowering costs, and resulting in better patient care from providers who aren't overworked and exhausted.

I was a Lyft driver. Honestly I had a few trips to the ER. I hated it, I had 3 people overdosing. I don't have the insurance for that, and I don't want the liability, I understand health care is messed up, but a Lyft or Uber is just a guy.

No no no... Stop using people... Fix the economy. . Don't put innocent. Drivers on the spot...this should not be allowed. And need to be stop immediately... For emergency. Call 911.

Full-time Uber driver here in Pittsburgh, PA. This has been an ongoing discussion in driver forums across the country. My thoughts... 1. Most Uber drivers are not medical professionals. We do not have the necessary training nor the equipment to provide potentially life-saving treatment during transport. 2. Someone who needs emergency medical treatment is taking a huge and unnecessary risk by using a ride share service in place of emergency medical transport. 3. It is just beyond comprehension that people would choose to put an Uber driver in such a stressful and unpredictable situation just to save money. How unbelievably selfish. 4. Being that we are a litigious society, imagine the law suits if something goes wrong on that trip to the ER. A navigation error, either in the Uber app or driver's mistake that delays arrival to the hospital and possibly worsens the patients condition as a result. The potential for an accident to occur en route as the driver is trying to get to the hospital quickly while stressing over a situation they have not been trained to deal with. A vehicle breakdown en route causing a major delay in getting medical care. 5. As we drivers are all independant contractors conducting business on the Uber platform "for authorized trips" only, it would be the DRIVER who is liable if something goes wrong, not Uber. Uber would be in no way to blame legally far as I know and I've spoken to some folks in the business of law about this. If a driver makes the decision to transport a person for emergency medical attention without prior approval by Uber then that driver has willingly chosen to take on and shoulder this responsibility, independant of the company they are under contract with...Uber, Lyft, whoever. Uber is not in the game of offering emergency medical transport in any way, shape or form. If they were, there would be a 911 option in the app. Just plain common sense people. If someone needs emergency medical treatment for anything, the cost of a well-equipped and professionally staffed ambulance is appropriate and the cost of the ride justified. This is right up there with all the other ways some people try to abuse the platform... Parents wanting to transport toddlers without car seats, parents using Uber to transport their minor children around unaccompanied by an adult. People ordering Uber X which has a max. capacity of 4 riders - per seat belt capacity, and per the law, then wanting to cram 5 to 7 people in. These are violations that again, us drivers have to shoulder, not the riders...and not Uber. The terms of use and service on these platforms are so overlooked and abused it's kinda scary. This new app-based gig economy is like the Wild West right now. Anything goes so long as you're not caught and folks get what they want for a cheap price with no regard to the risks and liability they are subjecting drivers to. Uber is a wonderful service and a blessing for so many around the world, both riders and drivers alike. It is shameful that so many riders out there just don't care about much more than themselves and what they can get 'for cheap' at the expense of others. In two years and over 5 thousand trips completed, I have yet to get a medical emergency request. If ever I do, that trip will not happen in my vehicle. Sorry if my rant upsets or offends anyone but enough is enough already. .

william obrien Just as you explained above YOU ARE SELF CONTRACTOR which means if you notice any of the above, you CAN ALWAYS REFUSE THE TRIP and Cancel..

This is why uber/lyft should get on board and try starting an uber ambulance or doctors visits ride service. Give the drivers extra cash and save tax payers billions. By the way im only offended for that long azz comment is wasting readers time... less is more.

It's funny I have a party van as my Uber vehicle... I have lights inside and outside of my car that I can make strobe like cops and I also have a PA system that has a siren and police horn just for the fun of it and I have a light bar on the front of my car and police never pull me over so if I was in a situation where I need to speed to the hospital I probably could and I do have narcan in my glove box just one little container though but this is b*******....I also work at Walmart and I remember years ago they were talking about how certain Walmart stores have their own ambulance drivers and I was like what the f*** how do people work for Walmart and be ambulance drivers on the side do they go stock shelves until they get a call and then they started to run out to their ambulance to go take a call and their manager tries to say stop you can't leave you got to clean up your cardboard you got to finish this cart first then you got to tell your manager you stupid b**** I got someone's life on the line.......

Uber ought to get in the ambulance business straight up medical funded, tax payers would save millions locally and within 1 year BILLIONS! Of couse uber would make billions more by charging even 1/2 the price of ambulances, sick uncaring price gougers praying upon the weakest members of society, criminal tactics!

Funny how that stuff turns 180. People are using ambulances for transport to go to the hospital when they are fine then walk off to the stores nearby.
