Basically, though, I would say health care is much more efficient and there is not a huge shortage of doctors. Furthermore, public transport is far more accessible and functional. Lastly, there are far more job opportunities here!

You can go downstairs and enjoy a good coffee or lunch for cheap, places are open late, the cities don't shut down after 6:30, people there are fun and more open, there is more vacation, less stress, better healthcare.

I left over 25 years ago. Last year i sent my daughter to university there (at Canadian rates) I was shocked at the costs. She has decided to change to study in Belgium, a decent EU country, the total living plus education costs are half of Canada. I live in Thailand, I can walk into a hospital and see a doctor in 15 minutes. No sub-zero winters. And I can save enough to sponsor my own retirement pension. I don't think I'll ever go back to live, maybe to visit in the summer, but never back into the system, its just not for me.

It's curious, from what I see Belgium has even higher tax than Canada. For example its VAT is 21% while here it's maximum like 12% or that the income tax is 50% while here it's like 45%. Maybe universities are indeed cheaper in Belgium but here it's not that you're going to have to put your house in mortgage to go there. I see here colleges are 3000-5000 CAD per year, surely if we talk about international student prices that's a whole different story. Either way it's not like in countries like USA where you have to pay like 50000 USD every year in tuitions.

@@ddaniel987x she's not paying income tax in either country. Her Canadian tuition plus insurance plus fees came to about 12k per year (4 years). Her dorm in Canada was 890/mo while sharing a room. Her dorm in Belgium is 590/mo (CAD) not sharing. Her tuition is 1600/year (as an EU citizen, she has an EU citizenship), for non-EU it would be about 10k a year (3 year program). Her student insurance that includes health, tenancy and travel is about 600/year. Groceries are on par with Canada as prices in Canada continue to skyrocket. Transport is cheaper with student discounts of up to 30% off train fares and bicycle rental at 7 CAD a month. I was surprised that sending my daughter to Europe as an EU citizen ends much cheaper than Canada as a Canadian citizen. Some EU countries like Germany offer universities for free regardless of citizenship. Each EU country is different, oddly in her own EU country they would charge international rates of 30k to 40k because she has not established residency there in the prior 3 years. But Belgium has no such requirement they only require EEC citizenship. Even if she had to pay 10k tuition for 3 year program that's 30k, 6k tuition for a 4 year program in Canada comes to 24k a difference of 6k. Now add in 9 more months of housing for Canada's longer programs, that easily makes up the difference. Plus add in one more year of earning.... Canada ain't the cheapest option even for Canadians.

I think this changed in Sweden as too many foreigners started to arrive at their shores. looking fora free education and .... Chrystia Freeland said "Canadians have way too much money" so this was a clear message.. Also in 2023 , at WEF, she said that time to reduce a wealth of the middle class.. There are few high-paying jobs and the rents are through the roof. Even if you find a good job and wish to excel, you will lose half your salary or more through taxes. Canada is no longer affordable or free.

You should come to my country. I paid 30% of my salary and another 18% everytime I buy something. What do I get in return? Nothing. I have to pay for a private school for my kids because the public ones are extremely bad. I have to pay for a private health insurance because if you wait to go to a public hospital you will die waiting, or they will kill you there.

Dear people reading this...Canada has been broken for ages now and it's literally become far, far, worse since Trudeau got into power, but that's another story for another day. Like Ken said in the video, Canada is great at marketing itself but will never reveal the real truth about what it's truly like to live in Canada until you move there and it's usually too late for some by the time. In regards to Ken's statement of employers saying "you don't have enough Canadian working experience," this regurgitated interview statement isn't stated solely to new immigrants to Canada, they tell the same BS line to Canadians too, I would be a billionaire by now for every time I heard that statement in interviews or rejection letters/emails. I became Canadian at 16, parents moving from the UK when I was 13, and ever since I graduated university I would get the exact same sentiment and statement. So, I had to leave Canada to go overseas in order to get working/teaching experience as everywhere I interviewed for after graduation would either say "you have no working/teaching experience" OR "this position needs a minimum of 3-5 years of experience." So I ended up getting my teaching experience in various countries (England, France, South Korea, Japan, Australia (3 separate occasions as well as also completing 2 degrees there) ) and now I'm currently living and working in the Middle East. But till this day, whenever I apply for teaching positions, I still get the same similar BS sentiment "We loved your resume, interview, and diverse teaching experience, but unfortunately you don't have enough Canadian teaching experience as you do overseas" LMAO like WTF???? So, I basically gave up applying to jobs in Canada and enjoy the teaching experiences I have overseas way more, plus the salary and benefits are a lot better too compared to Canada anyway. IF and when I do ever move back to Canada, I won't be teaching or working for anyone, I'll hopefully start my own business so I don't have to hear that stupid, moronic, nonsensical statement ever again.

The horror stories have heard from friends who are teachers in Canada lets me know that I made the right decision not staying to teach there. For the peanut wages/benefits they receive in comparison to the amount of work and nonsense they have to deal with, it's not worth teaching in Canada....other jobs/professions might be completely different but I am just speaking from my own profession/experience.

Having watched Canada's real estate keep reaching new highs along with the homeless populations all over Canada reach new highs on their own tells a story of an economy lacking money to house the poor. Over the last several years the homeless population has been increasing. From the news reports Canada's lack of money sounds like Chinas. When money gets scarce because of people reducing their discretionary spending money while increasing savings prices will seek a balance. The buyer will say yes if the price comes down to his "sweet spot", that is one not being overpriced relative to his budget. So far almost all of Canada's main areas are reporting prices on decline, some in creative ways, such as landlords giving three months free rent (25% off annual savings) if the tenant signs up for a year. Given the current trend, the landlord may have to resort to repeating this or something similar next year. Having read your story, I think the only reason I would ever return to visit Canada was social, like visiting "the old neighborhood". This coming cycle of deflation will change how we all spend and save our money. Credit cards will be used for things like paying our phone or internet service, but will be paid in full every month. A "rainy day fund will be set up as payroll deductions directed to your bank account or employers credit union. The coming deflation cycle will be great for the working poor, and bad for landlords who have bought houses at high prices and have to sell because they can't find renters to pay what they want. PS: for someone who has saved up a considerable amount of money and still has a nostalgic pull toward Canada is in a great position to take advantage of "fire sale" business and real estate in whatever part of Canada you like, to invest and even live and work parttime.

Thanks Ken for your input! I keep saying that to people, that Canada isn't a good country to immigrate right now and we should also pause immigration but people tell me I'm a racist for saying this. And one of the problem we have right now in Canada is the immigration rate is too high, so like you said the salaries are dropping and rent is increasing! All those years I worked in Canada I never could get ahead. High taxes and interest on mortgage and car loans etc.. I was only living pay check to pay check and could not afford to get sick. I had a trade that paid well but still paying too much to live here. I moved to the Philippines for 4 years and retired it was much better with cost of living with better weather. I came back to Canada to try to live here again but could not do it again. Things just got worst since I left in 2015. It’s so bad with the weather and cost of living and companies don’t respect their workers and want them to work 60 to 80 hours a week and do shift work with weekends and on call I said wow ! I need to sell everything and move back to the warm peaceful and affordable Philippines. Can’t wait to get the hell out of Canada ! No more being an economic slave in Canada. 😊

Surely Philippines has a way lower cost of living for you because I'm almost sure you still earn in dollars. If you were put to earn an average salary in Pesos you would immediately come back here and never complain about Canada ever again. 60 to 80 hours a week? What a lie! I am a third-generation Canadian, but my spouse and I are making plans to leave when the kids are out of the house and we retire. It's just far too expensive to live here anymore, and although our health insurance costs will be expensive, it's easily absorbed by lower taxation and living expenses in many other places. @@mamazi2018 We haven't gotten that far yet. We have friends in Panama, Costa Rica, and similar countries in Central and South America. They have significantly increased the quality of their lives as their dollars go a lot further and taxes are much less. One friend sold a house in Toronto and we are blown away with what they were able to buy. Nothing is perfect and there are downsides to everything, but it's always wise to explore all your options. We would probably rent for 3-6 months first to try things out.

Great video and good points highlighted. One correction about the cost of education. I was an immigrant and became a Canadian Citizen (even though my mother was Canadian I had to apply for citizenship back in my day) who went through the system and taught in the system, and put three kids through the system and I’m still in the system. Our taxes also go towards education and common with other Governments they subsidize education because of tHe economical benefits for the country. I live in a different province than where I’m taking my Masters online and I’m paying more for the same course as those in the school province pays. So not only internationals pay more, Canadians do to😉.

My experience left africa as university TA in computer science making $500/m then moved to canada,i worked in canada for 10yrs as truck driver making $300 per day got money decided to break away from the system you mentioned back home but to my surprise i lost all my money back home to apoint i could not afford food then back to canada and i decided will never complain again.good luck

Yes, I'd like to hear more details about all that too. This YT channel guy makes Africa sound like a utopia I've never actually heard of from anyone before. It's not like I haven't heard some good things before too, but economically, Africa is not doing so well. There's a reason so many people leave Africa, not just for Canada. All I’m saying is that 90% of the videos such as this one, highlighting how hard things are in Canada, almost always be referring to the major urban cities and Provinces. I’m not disputing that Canada is expensive to live in, I agree. However, what makes it different from any other major city around the world? Major cities are normally expensive to live in. Sure, you have all the amenities and things to do and experience, but that comes at a premium. Cities are usually crowded and the demand for the finite resources are very high, thus it’ll be expensive. Competition in these types of cities will obviously be fierce. There are tons of smaller cities where you can get 80% of that metropolitan vibe and amenities with out paying through the nose to survive. I see this more among the younger generations. Wanting that glitzy experience yet not fully understanding what it takes to live that life. Look elsewhere. Canada is huge. There are other provinces and cities to consider. Don’t narrow your focus to only Ontario or BC.

Do some comparisons between all these provinces and cities above compared to Toronto (Ontario) or Vancouver (BC) to see how they stack up. I’m positive you’ll see that most of what you need in a city can be had elsewhere while still being able to survive.

This happened to me with my First Class UK Oxford University Engineering Degrees Bachelors and Masters which was accepted nowhere in Canada as being equivalent to a Canadian degree. This was as a British citizen with perfect English skills and a full UK education. The discrimination is allowed by Canadian government yet those same qualifications and experience is accepted by Canadian government for immigration status but private sector employers are allowed to discriminate without consequence.

Then I had high level US and UK based experience in finance banking in City of London and Canary Wharf to world class level in major US banks and entities, including one of the largest banks in the wrold. CIBC in Toronto the team interviewed me and suggested my experience was not valid as it was not Canadian. In reality I could have wiped the floor with the entire team they had there and could do almost any job of multiple jobs they had for the interviewer whether strategist, trader or salesman on wholesale equity and derivatives markets. They did not offer me the job. And forget about tryiong to get a top class UK or US engineering degree accredited in Canada, the engineering institutions will not do it to "protect" Canadian jobs. Imade a big mistake emigrating to Canada I should have gone to Australia. Why? Because blue collar work semi skilled is MUCH higher paid there (semi skilled work at mines in Australia like truck driving). I could get those jobs in Australia without need of my degree and the pay and conditions are much better than in Canada or UK. You can live well in Australia on blue collar semi skilled work but not in Canada as the wages are much higher for semi-skilled work in Australia and they do have some genuine labour shortages and a smaller population and a wealthy economy.

What is the average income of a Nigerian worker in comparison to the cost of a brand new vehicle in Nigeria? Let's not reckon with millions of unemployed young people. Property taxes are much worse than another mortgage, because you can never ever pay them off. If you saved or were rich, you can at least pay off a house right away or quickly. There is no way to ever buy out property taxes. This pretty much makes us communist, but in a hidden way. People are just used to it and accept it, so they don't see it. Even if your house is paid, you can still lose our house simply for not paying the property taxes. At least in China, which is openly communist, they are honest about it. You "buy" a crappy apt, but you only get a 99 year lease. So you never really buy, you can pass it onto a kid, but you can't keep it in your family in China. We're a bit better here, as long as you pay the high taxes forever.

The objective of the Real Estate Market is for profitability, as such it is and will remain an open international marketplace and will not be subject to the local scene and local people. Property developers aim to expose their projects beyond the local platform. With laws already in place which does not prohibit foreign ownership and foreign purchasing power with contingency to physically reside within the property The rising living costs and grievances associated are not exclusive to CANADA. I agree with a lot of your points but there are a few things that I disagree with. First off, credit has been around in western culture for thousands of years and is not specific to Canada. Having a home on credit means you don't have to pay rent to someone else and you accrue equity which can be carried forward if you sell and buy another home. Having a car on credit means you can get to work. Credit can be very beneficial if people are careful with it. Secondly, the reason domestic students pay less is because their families have been paying taxes so that their education is subsidized. The foreign students are paying what it actually costs for the classes. Your point about the foreign employees not being treated equally is based on the idea that education levels are not equal around the world. For example, I lived in South Korea and it used to be possible to 'buy' a degree rather than earn it so I wouldn't necessarily trust everyone's qualifications. I think 'qualification' exams would be great way to fix this problem. Lastly, I feel that a lot of the racism, implicit or explicit, is caused by rapid immigration and Canadians are overwhelmed. This year alone, the government is increasing the population by more than 3% with immigration and there aren't enough homes, jobs or facilities...people are going to react badly to this kind of situation.

@@onyijeaniio9655 That's an excellent question. My brother is a contractor and he says that the levels of bureaucracy to get anything built is just unwarranted as well as expensive. The ruling governments, both federal and provincial, have wanted to create jobs and have done so by adding more regulatory bodies. Canada was already an over regulated country but it has gotten even worse in the past years. The opposition party is claiming that, if they get in power, they will only provide funding to areas that eliminate these roadblocks but who knows if that is possible. We also have a shortage of tradespeople in the construction industry. Local schools prioritize university rather than trade schools and the industry is dominated by certain ethnic groups, creating another barrier to entry. Frankly, it's a mess that the rapid immigration is only going to make worse. I'm not sure how it can be fixed or if it can be fixed.

@Ken Ndubisi As a Canadian, I must agree with much of what was stated in this video. The one thing that was not mentioned in this video that is very important, is context. The cost of living is expensive in Canada, but on par with most of the developed World. This goes the same for taxes, racism and etc. If one was to look at the tax rates in developed parts of Africa, they would see they have a higher tax burden, with a lot less services. When people talk about taxes, they fail to talk about the services they get for those taxes. Education and Healthcare is very expensive worldwide. Canada's healthcare system is slow, but the quality is high, more importantly, money is never a factor when it comes to treatment. Don't get me wrong the system needs to improve and one of the ways to make it better is to get more immigrants with Medical backgrounds to come to the country. Education is a high quality and Canadian taxes goes to making education affordable for all, even though Foreign Students pay more, it is still a lot cheaper than going to US schools. What most people don't realize is that most of their taxes goes to Healthcare, Education and Social Programs (in Canada). If you are not sick and don't have children, I can see why someone may not feel they are getting the benefit of the bargain. On the other hand, those educated children will be the future of Canada, so there is money to help support others in their retirement. Immigrants are key to Canada's future, Canadians don't have the birthrates to support themselves, without immigrants it would end up like Japan. Now what Mr ndubisi failed to mention is the opportunities in Canada. Canada is developing Green Industries / Technology, companies are looking for immigrants to come to the country for work. The unemployment rate for well-paying jobs is low in Canada and companies will take immigrants. In fact without a job letter from a Company it is very difficult to immigrate to Canada, in most areas of the Job Market. Canada is very expensive if you live in Toronto or Vancouver Rents and Property values are similar to Places, like Paris, London, New York, Sydney and etc. The rent in New York is about 30% to 100% higher in comparison. It is true that people are paid more in the USA, there is a different standard of living. Canada is a great place to live, but it does have its struggles like any Nation in the World. There is no scam....Canada is a country that if you work hard and spend your money wisely, there are few countries that are better to live in. I will concede that the winters are cold and snowy and the summers are hot and sometimes rainy. If you like 4 seasons, Canada has that... who wants to just live in the sunshine all year long??

Hi! I'm from Russia and planning to move somewhere from here. I've been watching different videos, reading comments and so on, trying to find the answer on my main question: where to move to? Most of disadvantages described are connected to inflation - but it's everywhere (prices for housing are so high for people wirking in Russia, I'm not able to aford it working on 2,5 jobs), healthcare system (it's mostly free in Russia, but you have to wait in huge lines as well, and you may eventually end up having to pay for tests or something else anyway), taxation (even though they say, that official income tax in Russia is 13%, this number increases, including all the other taxes and payments done by employers to government for their employees). This means, that many countries have such problems. But are these points more important, when it comes to everyday life, than culture and mentality of population? I know, there are some bad people everywhere, but have you tried living in society, where most people hate you, disrespect you and ready to knock you down for just nothing, and do it openly (not just secretly, as it may seem)? Have you tried living in a country, where you're not able to cross any road even using a pedestrian crossing or a traffic lights even if you're a child or a parent with a baby walking with you? Have you tried living in a place, where everyone knows about existing corruption, and everyone hates it, but arbthe same time takes part in it, instead of helping fight against it? Have you ever lived in a country, where your education level doesn't mater, because most people know, that students usually cheat on exams or just buy their grades, iven if you've never done so? I can continue long more, but I want to have a little rest in between my two jobs. Be grateful, that people you at least not dumb and don't hesitate smiling at you (knowing that it's normal and it doesn't show what you're mentally ill - yes, this is the one ofvthe reasons people don't smile in Russia).

I've seen Russia painted as totally rosy. I've also been told they don't charge property taxes, if you own a home, which really lowers the overall cost of living. I didn't quite understand some of the claims you were making against Russia. Like not feeling safe to just walk across a street or use a crosswalk. Not sure what the danger is? It sounds like as bad as Canada is, you still think Russia is worse. I would not know. I've heard ti's very corrupt and costs in the Russian cities like Moscow are only for the rich and powerful. I've seen great poverty there in the rural areas. It still seems much richer in culture. Though Russian culture is dour. Apparently Polish is quite similar. They think you are a simpleton is you smile in pubic. An American that immigrated to Poland had to learn it is culturally frowned on to smile at strangers. I guess that is too many decades of living w/ communism. We seem to just be slipping into that in Canada.

I have lived here my whole life and i do agree it is more costly than ever to live here.there are areas of canada that are affordable it really depends on the individual and the life you want to live. I love Canada i have my career, just recently paid off my house and i have my family here, everything is great. ❤

I left there last year. No regrets whatsover. I had a house in Vancouver ,sold it , and moved to Eastern Europe, Czech Republic. My cost of living has gone down to at least 60% from what it was before. Now its not a perfect country Im living, in but compared to how much taxes I was paying in Canada, it doesnt feel like Canada any much better. Everything is accessible to me over here , free quality education, good health care, tech , innovations, transportantion , food quality . All that for more than half of the cost of living in Canada.

Except European Community is going down, it is just a matter of few years. I am planning to go back to Eastern Europe, because I am from there,. I realized nothing is worth leaving your country, your family, the land of your ancestors. Also in Eastern Europe people are struggling financially, but for those with money it is cheaper than Toronto.. But then Europe is also collapsing and there is much more ( hidden) to the current situation in Europe.

@@monikam9069 I dont see any collapse happening anytime soon. Inlation has eased up a lil bit, Im seeing slight better prices at grocery and other service sectors. The only thing that needs to improve really is the energy crisis situation and the EU is making a harder push more than ever now to transition to the Green energy initiative , since the war in Ukraine.

Just in the automotive industry, 7M people are at risk of losing well-paid jobs that are being moved to China. Other industries are taking similar steps. European Union’s Energy Savings house improvements will require large investments for people. Without these renovations people will not be able to sell the house or rent it. “Whoever” blew up the gas pipe, they were targeting European economy. It is also a reminder to all of us who really was responsible for World War I and World War II. Only now, I understand, that even the depopulation of Germany, and weakening of German economy was part of a plan. Americans and British do not like “competition” The problem is what Europe will do with millions of people on welfare?? Who is going to pay for this?? The jobs will remain but not well paid. All of this intentional, just like flooding Europe with migrants. History will repeat itself. Globalization and Multikulti destroyed countries and created more racism than before “both ways”. With Artificial Intelligence there are too many of us ...across the World.. I am 37 years old and been in Alberta, Canada for most of my life but I have also lived in British Columbia as well. I can't wait to get out of here. Hoping to find some way to emigrate to the USA. This country is broken. Biggest issues in my opinion: 1. Cost of living and real estate is insane. 2. Weather here sucks and its very depressing to have extreme winters for 6 to 8 months. 3. Health care system sucks 4. Hard to get jobs that pay well here 5. Taxes are extremely high 6. Crime is becoming a bigger problem

I just recently asked for three weeks off to go overseas to see my family. I was denied. My employer will only allow me to leave two weeks at a time. Spending 2k to fly overseas due 2 weeks isn't worth it.

I came to Canada when I was three years old from Europe and I'm thankful that I held onto my European citizenship. I only see myself remaining in Canada for a few more years, mainly for my mother who would never survive on her own. I agree with most of what was said in this video. The health care system is broken. The educational system is broken. Only a couple of points that I would like to comment on. Firstly, international students paying more tuition than domestic students. It's not that international students are paying more. It's just that they are not getting the subsidies that a domestic student has accrued. My parents were paying into the system with their taxes for almost twenty years before I started University. Why should someone be able to bypass that by just getting off a plane? Secondly, this idea of "Canadian Experience". It wasn't always this way. There was a time early on when international credentials were recognized. The problem is that so many people lied about their credentials. Lied about their work experience. Lied about their education. Forged documents. I once interviewed someone from India that claimed to have a PhD, but didn't know what an abstract class was. It turned out that his degree was Photoshop'd and he had no formal education whatsoever. All of his work references were fake. This was extremely common in the 1980's and 1990's. Immigrants were saying anything to get a job. If someone comes out of York University then I know what kind of education they have. If someone worked at a company in Toronto then I know how they will handle themselves on the job. I can't say the same for someone that went to school and worked in Bangalore. I don't even know if the University that they went to even exists. Try verifying employment history with some country on the other side of the planet in another language. My recommendation to anyone thinking about coming to Canada, unless artillery shells are landing in your front yard, stay where you are.

​@calebrhieke2796 1) it's a guarantee that you can always go back to Canada if things eventually improve in future. 2) it's an extremely strong passport allowing you to travel to most countries without a visa. Plus, it even allows you to live and work in many developed countries for 2 years. Overall, it gives you great mobility to move around the globe and makes it easier to immigrate to other developed countries.

No one leaves their native country if it’s so great back home. If you regret coming to Canada go back, but please don’t double dip. The grass is not always greener on the other side every country has trade offs. I’m Canadian and I live in the US. I can say for sure there are disadvantages to living in the US. The only people that can be comfortable everywhere are rich people.

Question for the Wise, Well Researched and Open Minded 1. How many Nigerian's saves up to half of their SALARY at home or earn the value of their skills ? 2. Does Nigeria have a structured National Occupation Code NOC Directory for career experience ? 3. How many Nigerians are paide on a minimum wage puration analysis based on their experience ? 4. What was the purpose of home ties to an international immigrant if not to help develop his home ? 5. How does the Nigeria govenement ensure that citizens are paid based on industry payscale in juxterposed to the profit of the orgaization they work for, via Employee Auditing, Tax Audit and Recommended cost on Over head...? 6. What is the exchange rate conversion if online or local income is considered without greed ? This will answer most of the lamentation... good observation but, many already know this... it's better to say it with a balance of comparative reality of home country and new found country.

I'll never leave Canada. I was born here and I can't imagine being comfortable anywhere else. I love this country, but I do see the problems with this place. One of the major problems with Canada is that even though it's one of the most educated workforce in the world, industry is disappearing. That means the educated have a lot of competition for a limited number of jobs. My father has a master's degree in science, a bachelor's degree in mathematics, but he worked as a high school teacher before retiring. He went to school here and was born here.
