It's not just Raleigh. It's the entire Triangle area. I moved to Raleigh in 1995. I loved the place for many years. It got to be too much for me. I retired and moved out of state. It was a great move me.

Moved to Raleigh area 20 years ago and it's become a concrete jungle and Knightdale well it just became an extension of Raleigh. The surrounding small towns are following with the Ant colonies (new sub divisions) It's all about big corps and home contractors. So many homes going up quickly and $200,000 overpriced if not more and people are complaining about their homes that only after a year they're falling apart. Rent in the past 4 years has gotten out of control. On the outskirts the crazy price gouging is insane. $1,500 a month for a 40 year old ratchet mobile home. Mind you the rental expectations as income to be 3 times the rent and credit score over 650. I could see this for a nice apartment in Raleigh but not outside. A nice condo rental is around 2-3 thousand a month for a 2-3 bedroom. It's a decent city but hopefully next year the prices will go down. If not I'm moving

Whatever areas in NC aren't already overcrowded, are becoming overcrowded and fast. You mentioned that people want a more quiet lifestyle but even in the surrounding counties outside of Raleigh you can forget peace and quiet. If I could I would move the h*e*ll out of here.
@WhiteRhino.12 күн бұрын
I promise you...coming from S.FL to Clayton, even Raleigh and the suburbs are considered MCOL compared to FL where the average home is 650k-1mil. Unless you move to mid central FL. it's mord expensive then NC still

What a shame! The rampant, uncontrolled growth in North Carolina is obscene and disgusting. Not only Raliegh Durham is overcrowded and growing too fast, Charlotte as well. I remember the Raleigh/ Durham area 20 years ago was a beautiful area. It breaks my heart to see the Californiation of North Carolina. I lived in California for 45 years and saw ridiculous uncontrolled growth that made it virtually overcrowded, over price and unlivable. North Carolina is becoming another Califonia, just like Florida. I thought of moving to Raleigh/Durham 20 years ago. I am so glad I didn't.

We’re in Burlington so quite far from Raleigh, but plenty of people here commute to the triangle area for work. The I-40/85 corridor out here has gotten so busy there’s an accident nearly every day on this section when that used to be a rare occurrence before. Growth is a good thing but when it’s too much for the infrastructure and the towns to keep up, it’s really not a good experience for anyone…

Everything is correct in this video. Additionally, Raleigh doesn't experience all four seasons. While some people enjoy snow and winter sports, a few months here are extremely hot and humidity , making outdoor activities difficult. Another issue is driving. I’ve been injured twice while walking on the sidewalk and had to undergo surgery, all because people drive recklessly in this city. The majority of drivers don't use turn signals when they intend to turn left or right. Every day on my way to work, I witness accidents on the highway. Raligh is also perfect city for rasing childern but for singles or couples may be a little boring.

*Hot* is pretty contextual. Coming from S.FL, even the hottest days in NC is more comfortable then the coolest days in FL due to humidity and the index

NC has become a sell out to high prices and southern hospitality has been majorly lost in a lot of areas since the influx that started 8 years ago. Yall want livable income and housing,it isnt here and the job opportunity is farce with how picky employers are. Only reason its a perfect fit for a lot of people out of state is because some of yall are moving from places that are as expensive or more and think the prices here are ok and the state sees you as free money knowing you have a lot more for them. Same as Charlotte NC but I get the appeal but dont paint this picture like its the best thing in the entire world because its pushed others out because of how much they have catered to people coming in."They aren't fixing the problem and your promoting the problem"

We moved out of the Raleigh area and into Harnett County. Priority one was... had to be a law and order county. Break our laws... you go to jail. No blocking the Interstate, no out of control lawlessness and protests... During the pandemic we seen what unnecessary burdens Wake County and the city imposed on their residents. Raleigh prides itself on being a progressive city. A few years back they decided to ban garbage disposals in the home. Now there is a priority. Progressives always have some really great ideas that cost a fortune and hold everyone back. Lots of folks from blue states with blue ideas moving in, so it was time to leave.

Raleigh had abundant jobs back in 2000 when I came here. Raleigh salaries were great. Now the exploding labor pool has depressed wages. People move her faster than jobs do. The population also grows much faster than service professionals. Auto mechanics, various doctors, etc. They charge top rates ,substandard service, and long waits. Now I work jobs in DC area b/c those job s ARE abundant and pay better. Live in close? That's the only viable options to avoid losing large chunks of your life in traffic. You'll pay $700,000 for a "starter home" in close. Not affordable. Live out in Wendell or Holly Springs or any other suburb? Lower property values but you'll lose half your life sitting in traffic - the builders built homes and apartment buildings but not roads. The road building lags the residential building by 15 years. Don't come here. It's no longer attractive unless you have a boatload of cash to buy a small home for $700,000 in close to central Raleigh.

Wendell Falls has two little clumps of trees. Wow, sign me up. Raleigh never got it together as far as light rail - problem #1. Wilmington is known as Raleigh-East, and now that the boomers can sell their homes and walk out of closing with $1 million or more, a large percentage of these folks are moving to the coast (or mountains). Housing affordability for young folks is an issue - many move to the exurbs such as Angier or Sanford, but my real estate friends say that most of these folks want to eventually end up in Cary, etc. and shorten their commute. That path can take a very long time. Raleigh is being flooded with "halfbacks" who originally moved to Florida from Northern states and let's just say living in Florida is now a "challenge", so they move here. You can't drive around Raleigh without seeing 3 or 4 FL license plates. A high % of people who leave Cary (and to a lesser extent, Raleigh) do tend to regret it as mentioned in the video. If you move to Cary, look closer at the "MacGregor" side of Cary versus the "Preston" side - more Southerners, MUCH easier access to Raleigh, less crime, plus all of the major medical facilities.
