I look at the house edge as a "fee" for playing. The fee for Blackjack might be $0.20 on a $25 hand, the fee for Roulette would be $1.30 on a $25 spin. An optimal evening for me would be 150 hands of blackjack, 200 hands of video poker, and 40 spins at roulette. Rough estimate is a loss of $100. Add tips and it's about $130. In 2023, that's a reasonable cost for night of entertainment, and if you're at a lower level casino you can play for much cheaper.

I have been playing Roulette for about twenty years and the game has given me pleasant experiences. I never wanted to win and I wasn't particularly interested in the money part because I always saw it as just entertainment. Practically, I like the atmosphere of the casinos and the cocktails. Blackjack is different. Blackjack odds vary as cards are removed from the deck. When the 5 of diamonds has been played, it can’t come up on the next hand. It can’t come up until the deck is shuffled . So by increasing your bet when small cards are out, your chances of getting blackjack increase. Both dealer and Layer have the same chance to get blackjack , but you get paid 3-2 on your blackjack while the dealer gets only even money. So blackjack can be beaten in the long run.

And the casinos floor was loaded with all single deck tables with excellent rules and deep deck penetration. Now blackjack is no longer the biggest money maker for the casino. Blackjack can only be beaten by less than 1% of all those who play. More than 99% lose at blackjack. When the count strategies came out, droves of gamblers flocked to the blackjack tables thinking that they could beat it. They thought they had a winning system and bet lots more money. The count strategies actually helped the casinos even though a few could bet it. But restrictions on player rules actually hurt the casino blackjack profits. By preventing surrender, the players could no longer surrender at the wrong time. By restrictions on. Doubling down, the players could no longer double down at the wrong time. I’ve seen people double down hard 12 against a dealer 4!! I’ve seen a player split 77 against a dealer ten!! I’ve seen a player surrender 18 against a dealer ten. Sometimes that’s the right play, but when this player made it, it was wrong. The average casino advantage against these types of players is over 5%. A decision in blackjack is made much more often than a decision in Craps, roulette, or any other tables game. Only the slots have more frequent outcomes, but the bets are much smaller. So the average blackjack player is losing more money per hour than anyone other gambler. That’s why the casinos still offer a beatable blackjack game. Perhaps baccarat could move faster than blackjack but the casino advantage over the average player is much lower than in blackjack. The casino advantage in blackjack varies depending on the skill level of the player and the playing conditions offered by the casinos. I.e. rules, deck penetration, and number of decks used.

The way the game is dealt today, you are lucky to get an overall advantage on your total bets of 0.5%. That means that if you make one bad mistake an hour, you are not making anything. If you make 2 bad mistakes an hour, you are losing money.
