Philadelphian here. Yeah, things aren't good, but if you want to live in a city that's walkable and interesting, Philly is your best bet. All the points highlighted here can be said about all other cities in this dismal country. At least in Philly, you can live without a car and also not be stuck in some bland suburb where the nearest thing of interest is a 30-minute drive away. All the other walkable cities are even less affordable than Philly. As for safety, yeah, that's a problem, but you just need to know what areas to stay away from, like in all other big cities. But truth is if I had the freedom to escape from the USA to a paradise like Spain or Germany, I'd do it in a heartbeat, for most of America is a wasteland.

I don’t drive much but have plenty of space from my neighbors and tons of nice places to walk if I desire. I like being 30 minutes to 45 minutes outside of Philly regardless of gas prices. People who are so scared of crime that they won’t even move to a nice neighborhood in Philly don’t belong here anyway. If you want to drive everywhere and park at any time without hassle you also shouldn’t live here. People don’t move to Philly to see white picket fence sprawling yards and drive through… if you want that move to Texas.

Ehh, lived there, wasn't afraid. Honestly, can't say I disagree with any points in the video. Truth is the infrastructure, tax situation, quality of life wasn't what it should be for a big city. Even the public transportation and cleanliness of the el was poor. (How is NYC with more riders cleaner??) And public transportation wasn't as convenient as it should be for a city this populated. One still needs a car or someone with access to a car to navigate. The mindset of the city isn't like a big city, but more a heavily populated town. Lot of backwards thinking there. Even the food options were overpriced and very underwhelming.

Let's be real, if you live in the city and you're not rich you have to take the good with the bad. There are certainly some serious issues in my inner city Philadelphia neighborhood, but at the same time I at least feel fully connected to the neighborhood I live in. Life is a rich pageant here though, and there is always something to do a short walk or bus ride away. I have lived mostly in car reliant nice but incredibly dull suburbs around the country, now this is the worst but even more so the best neighborhood I've ever lived in. Philadelphia is filled with fascinating people and places and I can understand it's not for everyone, but I came here specifically to live this way and I love it.

There are parts of Philadelphia that resembles NYC and part of the Route 15 trolley line at its East End looks like Hillside Avenue in Jamaica Estates. High taxes are one thing but in the US the high taxes mean that services are worse and worse. If you travel around the world, you will find really livable places (affordable housing, affordable healthcare, and HIGH social cohesion) with high taxes.
