We meal plan what’s on sale, including dinners of: spaghetti, pancakes, casseroles that stretch for two meals, soup and grilled cheese, meatless chili, etc. They’re not the fanciest meals but they’ll fill your stomach when finances are tight. And use curbside pickup when free. Can’t go off the list when you (and the KIDS) don’t go inside the store. 😊

Huge bag of dry pinto beans and another of dry black beans can go a long way with just some salt, pepper, and garlic powder. We use them for tacos, rice bowls, quesadillas, soups. There are plenty of websites that show you how to pair beans with other foods to get all your essential amino acids.

Everything is getting more expensive, including groceries. What people should really focus on to reduce costs is to focus more of buying basic ingredients & making their own meals, instead of buying the prepackaged and manufactured garbage that lines the grocery store aisles. Cooking basic items is not difficult, and knowing what exactly is in the meals you are feeding yourself and your family members gives a whole another level of peace of mind.

I fast by choice from 7:00 pm until 11:00 am every day. I eat primarily protein with salad and veggies included. I rarely eat any processed food. I’m 72 and take no medications, only vitamins, walk two miles plus five days a week and my weight is in a safe zone. Thankfully, finances are not an issue. My heart hurts for all the family’s who are struggling to feed their kids.

I love to cook, so, I shop in my own pantry. I sit down with my husband, and we make the menu for the whole week including our lunches. We shop smart, and live within our means; we love being frugal and minimalist. It works. Not only we save money, we eat healthier than buying premade food or eating out.

One strategy that I use is to shop at a grocery store that offers fuel points to help save on gasoline and timing it to days with bonus points. Saving $1/gallon adds up quickly. Plus, that store often has the best deals, quality and low regular prices!

Not just food. Meds are prohibitively over priced. Needed to refill a med for my husband today. Was $131 last time, 2 months ago. Today, $391.32. We are stretched thin, due to his cardiac meds, and 1 for me due to Afib. Called our insurance Co. He's in a new period on the policy, where he pays a higher amount. Already so much for meds, and his medical/hospital bills. Left a msg for his Dr, asking for another med.

Or use your local food bank, no shame if you really can't buy groceries, that is why they are there. Meat is high but pasta/veggie dishes are much less. My mom used to have pancake night on occasion or grilled cheese and we thought it was fantastic and she saved a lot of money

I now bulk buy none perishables to save even $30,$50,$100. And then i budget money & keep it in cash so i avoid using my card or dipping into savings to buy things like bread (1-2 loaves a week), tomatoes 🍅 (1.5kgs every 2 weeks) as these 2 thing are things i buy often after I've bought my monthly groceries. I buy onions as a 7-10kg bag, and it lasts me 6 months coz i use 1 onion per meal coz i don't really like onions lol. I have found that I'm now having left over money since i started doing this. I also eat 2 meals daily as i do intermittent fasting and don't eat breakfast (this is by choice😂😂😂), but my daughter eats 3 meals daily coz she's a kid and i want her to focus at school with a full stomach.

make omelettes or eggs with veggies, maybe some people can't stretch and look at beef and chicken. With kids you want protein and I'd add vitamins to fill in gaps but people stretch when they had little money but you have to think outside of steak and potatos

This is so true. When I was pregnant, I tried to apply for WIC, and they said between my husband and I, we make double what is required to qualify. And I was like I have a mortgage and car to pay for. I'm literally here without money. They said no. We only look at income. I have a cousin who ears millions but all under the business, so SHE qualifies because she doesn't cut a check for herself from the corporation. It's absolutely disgusting how the more money you have, the more you get from the government. We had to rent out our home to cover the mortgage and move in with our parents since we can't afford childcare.
