tbh, it's kinda unfair that the other members are also getting hate because of that one member who wrote the most questionable rap lyrics ever... the rest didn't really do anything wrong, it's just him that messed up real bad so idk why the others are also getting hated:(

Well to be fair the other members were hyping him up while he sung that stuff in the vlog...so I dunno, it's a bit iffy that they sat on the side and hyped him up like he was singing the best shit ever. None the less they're gonna debut and in time they're just gonna have to show growth from their mistakes... like scandals like these unfortunately will be overcome and swept under the rug and only be brought up in fanwars on twitter not having any real affect.

The member LEO. He wrote misogynistic lyrics about killing women because he was “angry”. I seriously don’t like him at and would hope that he gets removed from the lineup because that guy is literally bringing nothing to the group except hate. I would’ve forgotten his actions but that man is literally Australian and definitely knew what he was doing while writing those disgusting lyrics.

I understand not wanting to stan them because of what Leo wrote but hating on them because most of them aren't korean!? What!? I've seen xenophobic comments towards them and it's completely ridiculous. Why does that matter!? I just want to listen to music, i couldn't care less about their nationalities Edit: 11 June - Since I have made this comment, there has been numerous arguments over this situation.and I will say this again. Even though he has apologised and some idols have done worse, doesn't mean you have to forgive Leo. I have ,PERSONALLY, decided to give him another chance because I have done it so many times when idols do or say something racist. BUT just because I do, DOESN'T mean anyone has too!! And STOP COMPARING THIS SITUATION TO DIFFERENT IDOLS!!! WE ARE TALKING ABOUT LEO, NOT BTS OR ANY OTHER K-POP ARTISTS SO SHUT THE HELL UP! And yes I do Stan Trainee A but I'm calling something out that needs to be said! Sexism and misogyny has been to normalised around the world and people need to stop making excuses for them. I also want to state, Leo actually acknowledge his mistake and said he is trying to change when Trainee A went to busk at Venice Beach. He has PUBLICLY addressed in in front of hundreds and hundreds of people. Still then, people don't have to accept his apology and everyone (fan or not) should be allowed to criticize him for his lyrics. Edit (25th Aug 2022): Leo has left Trainee A. I still won't defend his lyrics but I can't believe you bullied him so much that it was affecting his mental health severely and now he has left the group. You bullied him into giving up. Are you happy now!? Yes, his lyrics were gross, but you sending him hate and death threats makes you gross too. The K-pop community needs to do better. Situations like these causes idols to (TW) commit suicide. You CAN criticise someone without telling them to KTS. I hope u are proud of yourselves. You guys are ridiculous

In the showdown he performed 3 songs (the message of each one is important). It was a fictional storyline where a girl who was a gold digger manipulated him for money. The first song was when he was upset, some of the lyrics were ‘girl let go before you kill me slowly, thought it was love wasn’t meant to be’ 2nd song he talks about how he has money and she played him because of it ‘you know ima ball ima have it’, ‘I got these racks’ and now referencing the girl ‘b*tches done played with me’. And the 3rd song talks about how the girl can’t live without the money she used him for. And this is where the situations been misunderstood, taken out of context and false lies have been spread. Leo used and modified the song ‘stop breathing’ by playboy carti. Which ISNT a song about abusing women but about his friend who got murdered. meaning of the song:“Stop Breathing” is a high-energy punk-rap homage to Gucci Mane’s “Shirt Off,” an ode to Carti’s gang members, as well as a brutal diss track aimed at incarcerated ATL rapper Ola Runt and his Henchmen gang. The Henchmen killed a close friend of Carti’s named Bigg Sosa, which is what prompted Carti to channel his anger into this diss" The ‘stop breathing’ part in the song also wasn’t about hurting women, it was about girls going breathless when seeing playboy carti topless. Leo used these stop breathing lyrics to reference that she couldnt live without his money (which was clearly a poor decision)‘fuck that hoe in my bank’ is saying fuck her for using the money in my bank+‘took that bitch to the store’again references how he would spend money on her. Leo clearly didn’t think enough about the lyrics and this is evident by the fact that he said (in the now deleted vlog) his focus/effort was in the actual performance not the lyrics. The actual words he said on the vlog: " don't focus too much on the lyrics or meaning, I prepared myself thinking about the vibe of the performance"Leo modelled his stage after Playboy Cartis performance of ‘stop breathing’, just search for playboy Carti's stage. Yes he made a mistake and he shouldn’t of wrote those lyrics. He should have known that the people watching aren’t rap fans but Kpop fans who could find aggressive songs offensive and also may not be okay with or understand rap culture of swearing etc however,The lies and disgusting accusations needs to stop. Some Kpop stans speak about him as if he is evil calling him a women abuser, wrote a song about r*pe etc.People also started calling him racist because he used the word slavery in the second song. It was literally just him saying he didn’t want to be a slave to this girl. The word slavery is not a slur and their wasn’t even any meaning of race. Everyone is ofc allowed to have their own feelings about the situation but I hope at least people are now more informed of the whole situation. And if you'll say he's mad/angry blah blah blah Leo said in the vlog that he used a situation when he was angry a while ago and channeled that energy for the third song which is what a lot of songwriters do. He didn’t write it BECAUSE he was angry. And again the girl is fictional so he wasn’t angry at a real girl. Edit(8/25/22): Leo already quit and I honestly blame it because of those people who bullied and send dts to him, y'all made him give up on his dreams, he become a trainee for 3 years and half just to get all those hates? Are u guys happy now?! Leo did offended some people with his lyrics before but y'all cross the line so much, he's a human too and he's not blind not to see the hates y'all sending him, I see some people say that they hope one of his family member (mom/sis) will get Rword, that's seriously so disgusting wth. That kind of attitude you guys have are the reasons why some of kpop idols su!c!d3. Are you guys proud of what you guys did? I hate y'all seriously.

Well said!! :) As people gain maturity they learn that you NEVER follow a crowd unless you have investigated things YOURSELF. Sharing your opinion based with facts shows honesty, not speculation which can be drowned in lies. This kid is still maturing and his lyrics were misconstrued. Plus he is probably more than excited to share his talents with his fans. I saw the video that made it seem that Trainee A were making the video themselves. I pondered to myself if they just skipped their company's plans and just did it themselves sharing it with friends, family, and potential fans. Their "newbie" excitement was charming. I liked their enthusiasm and I loved their sound. These kids have so much potential just waiting to explode onto the music scene that I became an instant fan. I am hoping that others can see the talent these kids have and are able to forgive the immaturity of the members. As I tell my kids often..."You are still learning how to be your age, you will make mistakes...mistakes makes us HUMAN. Mistakes aren't made to define you but to help you grow and mature as a person." At 52 years old I am STILL making mistakes...but the good thing is that I take each of them, learn from them, and work to be a better person. You are never too young or too old. This attack on these kids needs to stop. About their diversity...I can't believe it's an issue. Imagine being told "I'm sorry, but we can't help you with your dream because you weren't born here." That seems so mean, doesn't it?

NCT is one of the most popular groups in Korea and they have more foreign members than Korean members. In fact they have an entire subunit with people of Chinese ethnicity (so 0 Korean members) who sing in Chinese on Korean music shows. Similarly, Super Junior M (Chinese language subunit of Super Junior) was the most popular subunit when it was active, with Korean fans even following their activities in China. And there have been many other groups with people of different backgrounds with less Koreans (for example Secret Number's original lineup, only one Korean with 2 Americans a Japanese and an Indonesian). Not to mention survival programs/groups where they specifically sought idols of different races (Treasure Box, GP999, PD48, etc). The people who are hating on them for not being "Korean enough" should realize that this is nothing new.

Leo is 19 years old and a fluent english speaker. He's aware of what he wrote and even said that don't mind it. If a woman wrote a lyric that slanders men, they will get cancelled immediately. But if it is a man who wrote lyrics to slander women and didn't express any apologies or realizations at first, they will still given a chance. He just apologized because people called him out, you can't ensure if he's really sorry or what. I'll probably believe on it if at first he acknowledge his mistake instead of saying that "don't mind the lyrics because he was angry that time." Whether you are angry or not, if you know you did wrong, you should have acknowledge it. He could have included "Im sorry or I apologized because blah blah blah"

The only right way Leo could debut is if he gets counselling and learns that he cannot manifest his anger through violence against women, even as thoughts. Leo has revealed his extremely dangerous mindset and it needs to be proffessionally adressed as the fandom of whatever group he would debut in are entitled to know that the artist they are supporting has learned and changed from his extremely harmful actions and mindset. In addition to that, the fact that these mysoginistic lyrics, that by no mistake exhibit violence towards women, were passed through the production line speaks volumes about the company. All staff and artists in this production line are mysoginists and enablers for publishing these lyrics like its acceptable. The company's appology does nothing to show us that these staff are being re-evaluated and it shows that hybe does not have a safe environment for women much less for a girl group that will be managed with these mysoginistic and dissmisive policies.

At this point I am more concerned about the toxic backlash and straight up cancel culture than about Leo's rap. It's frightening how some k-pop stans don't give idols the chance of growing, reflecting and learning from past mistakes. Especially since we don’t know for sure what he meant by these lyrics, AND the „stop breathing“ lyrics were already in the original song, since this is just a cover. Music can be interpreted in so many ways, we don't even know if this song was written from his perspective. Like, that is the complexity of art. I will give him the benefit of the doubt, and we will see how he will grow as a person from this. Everyone deserves a second chance.

Honestly though, it’s so frustrating to see people repeatedly accepting apologies that weren’t made for them. I’m not a person of color but I’ve grown up in an area that is 70% people of color and my closest friends have always been POC and it’s infuriates me seeing their feelings being dismissed over and over again. Whenever I see someone getting called out for being racist I ALWAYS ask my friends their opinions and how they feel about the situation because i know that it’s not my place to decide whether something is or isn’t racist or whether someone should or shouldn’t be forgiven. I can’t tell you the amount of times I have literally been in the same conversation with my friends and had to be told afterwards that the other party was being super micro aggressive and I didn’t even notice despite literally being right there, which just PROVES that I have no right to decide what is or isn’t racist. I don’t understand how anyone in there right mind could accept an apology or forgive and an idol for something that doesn’t pertain to them. That’s like if somebody slaps you in the face, proceeds to apologize to you and then their friend says that they forgive them; and then whenever you try to bring it up or address it everybody gets mad at you because you’re just trying to bring up old dirt when they were already forgiven. But suddenly when the conversation changes and it was offensive to them personally everyone has the right to be offended. Sorry for the long rant, I just can’t imagine the amount of frustration and hurt things like that must cause for POC. Your feelings are important to me and I want to learn to be better always. And please if anything I said above was hurtful, offensive, incorrect or privileged anyway let me know.

This is the first time I'm agreeing with Knets, they're absolutely right, he's 19 and this is what he's writing? there was no error of understanding of language, he possibly grew up in a very progressive environment too. No justification whatsoever, he doesn't deserve a second chance. On top of all this, y'all wouldn't have any sympathy for him had he been ugly. The fact that he's young and still has such violent thoughts is precisely why he shouldn't be given a second chance.

This is actually the worst we could do! How are our own actions, when we let it slide, in anyway better then the males that call us such things? And no, I don’t say that the members should get hate for something they didn’t do. But to say, he deserves an other chance afterwards doesn’t sit right with me, when its always easier to say sorry afterwards then doing the right thing before.

it's always easier to destroy a person and then act okay with it using the excuse "it just concerns me". it's actually manipulative that people tell different stories about his issue like it's a writing exercise and people can add and manipulate the story to make it seem worse and worse. If people still do not accept a woman's words then do something more significant other than using his issue, making it look worse and then say you as a woman is being ignored. I hear you, I see you. You're a woman, you can do better other than drag a person to his grave.

You're getting called crazy because you're all getting mad at a bunch of words. I don't care what you try to call them, they're a jumble of letters and/or sounds. Getting mad at them is what you call being sensitive. On top of that, you're all purposely misinterpreting the song and getting mad at HIM for what YOU came up with. And THEN you're all overreacting by wanting his whole career, if not his whole life, destroyed over a SONG. If that's not a reason to call you people crazy, then I don't know what is.

@@ldrago6031 did you watch the whole performance of him? Did you understand the lyrics? You probably don't,He made a theme for this showdown which is about romantic relationship. He prepared three raps to make a cohesive storytelling of his fictional girlfriend and his (fictional) experience with her. The first two raps were melodic and talks about his sadness after the girl broke up with him (one of his lyrics were "I thought there was we'). Then the last rap, this one, is aggressive rap because it is where he is taking out his anger to the girl after finding out she was only after his money (his lyrics: fuck that hoe, in my bank, yeah that bitch stopped breathing) And no, he did not kill or r*ped the girl. The song by carti isn't abt violence. And also the lyrics "that bitch stop breathing" from the original song it only means that the girl was breathless. There is no way he became misogynistic because he did not INSULT WOMEN, DEGRADE WOMEN, and STEREOTYPED WOMEN. He is pertaining to a single person - a (fictional) woman who used him- and called her a hoe, which is the correct term for people who are like her.
