I started as a sport bike guy, but quickly discovered that there is so much more in the world of motorcycling than just going fast. Price is one of the biggest things that he’s got me to look at cruisers. You can get a Japanese cruiser for not a lot of money in my area. Shadow 750s can be had for under $2000 USD. Vulcans are pretty inexpensive as well. Add some bags and for under $3K you could have a decent machine that can take you across the country.

So even considering the labor of swapping everything over to the new frame, I'm still under 2k. Additionally I got to KNOW that bike and the added benefit of turning wrenches (it's own reward for some of us.) I highly recommend buying an old trash bike for nothing and turning it into EXACTLY what you want. Whether that's a 636, a shadow, or a YZ. Cruisers got that name as a type of bike, typically post WW2 army and cop bike lines, turned into boulevard show cruisers for cruising Friday nights at Mel's Drive In or the American Grafitti strip. I'm a scooter guy, but I can sympathize with this video a lot because most points apply to scooters as well, and I understand how sports bike guys don't tend to think about reasons why anyone would prefer a less performant type of bike with other advantages in different fronts that just aren't taken into consideration by them. Scooters also allow you to take a laid-back approach to riding and enjoy the scenery without worrying about going fast. Maxiscooters are amazing for passenger comfort, easily being a strong contender for the type of bike with the most passenger comfort. And the point about the community and group rides, I think it's the same for scooters. They have other advantages too like the built-in storage or the automatic transmission, but if you look at it from a purely performance-oriented point of view, even the fastest of maxiscooters are terribly slow compared to a sports bike, so I understand why they don't like "slow" type of bikes, but there are plenty of reasons to love them if you look beyond going fast all the time.

Greetings from Florida! I like your point of view! I too have had a cruiser for 14 years, and have only put a little over 4k miles on it over that time. It's a 2006 Honda VTX1300c I bought in 2009 with 4300 miles on it and I have recently just rolled over 9k miles. It's not that I don't like riding it because every time I get on it, It puts a smile on my face! I also have a 2015 Honda CRF250L with about 2800 on the clock. Each offers a different riding experience and both make me smile when the wind is in my face!

This guy's dead on correct. It's not how fast you get there it's the journey. It's the smell of the fresh cut grass, the neighborhood BBQ's, the spring wild flowers in the air the feel how the temperature changes while riding in a valley. It's the JOURNEY not the speed. Yammie got his melon scrambled when he tried to be that ladies hood ornament on her Porsche when he flew a 100 feet in the air. There is different kinds of riders some are speed others or cruise/experience just like there's different kinds of bikes. But instead of seeing that community as a whole he's got a pin headed view.

I was annoyed by all the merch and giveaway bits in the middle of the videos. Also I didn't feel connected to what he says. Your video was good, pleasing to watch and it's nice seeing another POV than sport and dirt bikes. I'll look at your other videos when I'll have the time. About cruisers, I may get one because it looks more laid back, you can have storage and what's the point of going fast with all the speed limits. I just wanna have a fun commute and see the nature once in a while.

After 20+ years of riding, I've learned there should be a spot in the garage to satisfy whatever mood I'm in for the day. After much experimenting, I've landed on what suites me the best for each occasion: •100+ mile rides on the highway: Sports Touing (Yamaha Tracer 9 GT) •Relaxed 20-100 mile rides on the highway: Cruiser (BMW R 18 Classic) •Fast times and cornering like I'm competing on the Isle of Man TT: Supersport (Ninja ZX 6R) •Hooligan'ing around down: Naked (Yamaha MT07) •Highway & Nature on the backroads: Adventure (Yamaha Tenere 700) •Dirt & Mud: MX (Yamaha YZ 250) Oh, and I guess a hamster cage for when you're too tired to ride or it's 110 degrees out.

My 60 year old uncle got into riding after his divorce. He started on a Vstrom 650 and hated it. Too high and too heavy. He bought a Vulcan 650 S and fell in love with riding and we had some amazing trips together before he passed away a couple years later. That bike is currently in my garage. Friendly engine, light weight, and low to the ground. I've taught people to ride using it and my female friends have loved riding on it much more than my faster bikes.

I'm a dual sport guy myself, I love taking my bikes off road, but I have seriously been considering a cruiser as I'm getting older, and riding on the bumpy terrain or the spills on the trails are taking longer to recover from now. I'd like to take a long ride to the coast in comfort for once, and I can't see sports bikes being comfortable for long trips like that. My next bike will either be an adventure bike or cruiser, I just can't decide. I still have love for off-road, so most likely, it'll be an adventure bike, but I am still very tempted to get a cruiser.

Yammie taught me a lot, and I disagree with a lot of the shit he says. I’m a cruiser rider, I ride an 05 HD springer softail, probably going to get a sportbike next, gonna test drive one soon because I want to get a feel for the riding experience. I love my cruiser. It reminds me of being a kid and just cruising down the road on my bicycle. Except now my bike is big and loud and beautiful with lotsa chrome. Most relaxed riding position, just feel like I’m laid back on a couch 🛋️ rollin my way along, and I have all the power I need. Would be nice to carve the highway on a sportbike, but I love how my cruiser with my springer suspension just lays waste to any and all bumps. It’s so smooth. And I still get places in half the time as in a car, because lane splitting is legal where I am.

I don’t follow YN. I have a metric cruiser & other bikes. I’m glad you pointed out the comfort myth. There’s a lot of silly design ergonomics about cruisers (upright, no wind protection, forward controls, high bars etc etc). If you look at real tourers (goldwings, fjr1300, st1300 etc) or even adv bikes, you can see how ergos are designed for comfort.

One more subscriber here. I like your understanding of riding, for some, it is about the adrenaline rush. I am typically relaxed when riding, cruisers allow that. I agree that comfort is not the strong suit of many cruisers, especially if you're not attentive to potholes. The low seat height often means little rear suspension travel. My Royal Enfield Himalayan is very comfortable on roads that I would avoid on my Triumph America. Keep up the good content and appreciation for the sport.

Hey good video ! Funny enough, I had a FZ 09 2015 before I sold it 6 years later for a HD FatBoyLo thinking it would be more comfortable for longer rides, well, to some extent, the bigger fuel tank was a plus, however, it did not feel more comfortable, at all, even with a full Batwing shield the buffeting was worst than naked FZ on highway, the seat all though more cushing was not great due to the very small ammount of suspensions on the rear. The riding position was, not so great either, only thing I liked was the low end torque and very low center of gravity, but the 750+ pounds of weight was a pain to carry around on stop light and garage. And the constant fear of dragging the very low lean angle was also bad for me, You are right though, very different machines for very different purpose. Both great in there own ways and for each there own ;) I am now in the market for a XR1200, best of both world :D Peace and keep up the good work ! Also yes, YN is a brat :D And I love Spite's channel

Before I bought my Kawasaki W800, I was almost talked out of it by the tons of reviews I read/watched online that tore the bike apart. Everybody claimed it was slow, couldn't corner worth a damn, had horrible suspension, etc. etc. I finally decided to go with my gut and buy it because I thought it was a beautiful bike and I've loved every second of owning it. Kawasaki hit the nail on the head with creating a truly retro bike that not only looks like a motorcycle from the 70s, but feels like one too (just without the maintenance nightmare). There are way too many bikers today that feel like every motorcycle should scream like a bat out of hell and corner on a dime. I don't ride my bike like that, I don't even like getting up to 80 on the highway and only do it when absolutely necessary. I value my life too much to attempt taking a curve at any speed that makes my heart rate increase. Some people just like to enjoy the sun on their back and the wind in their hair. For as much as bikers like to talk about being a brotherhood or something, there is an incredible amount of snobbery and elitism from the sport bike crowd and people like Yammie Noob on KZbin that really gets on my nerves. If someone wants to ride a motorcycle for no other reason than doing 20mph down some farm roads that's just as valid a reason as wanting to scream down the drag strip at 160mph. Not every bike should be judged by the standards of a supersport.

I recently did a short 300 miles trip with a Harley crew on my ZX6R, and let me tell you that it was not comfortable at all, when I got home I felt I got jumped and my back was really sore, cruisers actually made for that, plus at least harleys, are made to cruise doing 70 - 80 comfortably

I'm new to motorcycles, with the added handicap of being past 50. So when it came to getting a bike, I don't want fast, I don't want something I have to slouch or bend over on (old man back), and I want to be able to flat foot, especially while I'm learning, so low seat height was really important. The bike I settled on was a '23 Honda Rebel 500. No real frills, but comfortable (once I put a Mustang seat on it), not too much power so I don't have to worry about whiplash or smearing myself into a puddle of goo from hitting a corner too fast, just something I can get out with and enjoy a nice leisurely cruise checking out the scenery, just like you said. After watching a lot of these videos, pro and con for cruisers, I can see both sides of it. I have no doubt a sport biker would hate my Rebel, but then again, I would hate his Yamaha R1. In the end, ride what makes you happy, and don't knock your brother's bike. Only opinion that matters when you release that clutch is whether you like the bike or not.

Makes a lot of sense. Also, going fast is a thing on the past. With overpopulated roads, speeding laws and all the cops and cameras now, it's basically just a matter of time before you either make an accident or lose your licence. With the actual context we live in, the cruiser makes a whole lot more sense than the sports bike.

Really nice video. I appreciate your perspective. There is one thing that bothers me about our community as a whole. We seem to get in our niches & forgot just how common we are. I’m a sport bike rider at heart, but willing to ride any style. I sight see & cruise on my sport bike when the environment calls for it. I think all of this “style” stuff comes down to pure preference. I think sport bikes(if your build allows) is the best of both worlds because when I need an adrenaline boost or a quick movement to keep my wheels down, the bike can handle it. & when I’m feeling less spirited I can ride my sport bike in the same speed a cruiser would. It’s my opinion & I don’t expect others to see it this way. I think you missed a big reason why people may choose cruisers & it’s for storage. It sucks having to take a bag when I need to carry things & that alone is why I’ll probably own a bagger someday. Though I will always put more miles on my cbr. Thanks for the upload. I have owned nearly every flavor, shape, and size of motorcycle and scooter, ranging from 50cc scooters to 1100cc hyper-sports (and I still have 16 of them in the stable). I enjoy all of my bikes, but I gravitate toward the smaller, slower bikes and scoots. They allow you to slow down and actually enjoy the scenery instead of rushing through it to reach any particular destination. The journey is the adventure, not the destination! BTW: good work on the thumbnail for this video... it's a great attention grabber. Good luck with your YT channel, and I hope you can grow the subs! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

One of the reasons why I love my gen 2 KTM Super Duke: they took an adventure frame and stuffed a bored-out v-twin race bike engine into it. It CAN be raced, and plenty ppl do track them, but the riding position is more upright than most “super nakeds”, and I most often enjoy riding it like a “power cruiser”. It really is a Jekyll/Hyde kind of bike and riding experience. Slightly longer travel (and softer stock setting) suspension is off putting to most at first…unless you’ve ridden a supermoto before, and see the connection and lineage. Brilliant bike for “cruising” and has monster torque that can favor low rpm riding, easily. But…you can ALSO put it into track mode and she RIPS!
