The prayer part hit home for me. The last 10 years of my life have been an emotional roller coaster due to circumstances completely out of my control. My suffering became so overwhelming I began to wonder what it was all for. I finally surrendered and prayed every night to the universe, to my mom, to my grandmother to anybody who would listen. I just wanted guidance. Show me what I need to do and I’ll do it. I have to say that my new found spirituality probably saved my life. My meditations are where I can find some peace. Thanks Lex for this amazing interview with Andrew. And thank you Andrew for sharing. It means a lot.

I grew up with my parents being drama, a holiday never went by without police or ambulance or family fights.. then I had 2 kids with a guy alot like my dad, (alcoholic), I left him when my second was only 5 months old.. when I got my first place alone with my kids I remember looking at the front door and saying, "no drama through that door!" And I've stuck to it as much as life permits, and my kids and calm and intelligent! No addiction issues and I'm so happy I broke that curse

Re: "Being Yourself" in a relationship - I think many (chronological) adults continue to seek the "unconditional love" they may not have received in childhood. But that desire is totally misplaced, out of time. That child "died" as in "ceased to be" long ago and no "unconditional love" from anyone else in the present can fill the void that may persist. It is appropriate to mourn the loss of that childhood, mourn the loss of the opportunity to grow up with the unconditional love of ones parents. However, after that, such a person has to Move On and learn to Love Themselves unconditionally. Following that, they need to realize others will and, actually, Should love them Conditionally; i.e. for the person they are now, the choices they are making now, not just for their "self," but the Best Version of their "self." Isn't that really what we want as adults? For people to appreciate and respect us for the humans we are and are choosing to become, in spite of our weaknesses, in spite of our history?

I think what Andrew is finding his way to is Stoicism. The little comment he made about not being able to control everything. How he described a higher power, the Stoics would call Nature or Fate. How he increased his agency through this, by taking action. He's also reflecting on his day and his place in life. I'm excited to see his journey.

Nature, faith, the way, God, it all points in the same thing. What words we use isn’t so important. It’s the feeling

I love the part about drives bc I’m driven heavily by pleasure, but also the part about prayer and feeling like somethings can’t be resolved alone. You can understand your drives, take loads of plant medicines, meditate, etc, but no matter what this life seems so mysterious. Just when you think you have it all figured out, life humbles you. You only can look inward or beyond the stars. The answer is both, but still this experience is a fruitful yet paradoxical question mark.

Thank you for the advice I took it to the heart. I have started pray along side my meditation everyday and I see real change. If we don’t have humility and acknowledge our limits that we cannot control everything it will lead us eventually to a self destructive path. I know for sure I done that mistake quite a few times but I always got up and try to become a better human being every day.

I've found sometimes it's about ACCEPTING our flaws rather than getting rid of them, so long as they're not hurtful to ourselves or others. That resistance to what is can really cause angst.. in my experience anyway. Nobody is perfect.

I kind of interpreted his prayer segment as him being self aware of things he can’t change when he focuses on changing them. So he left it up to “a higher being” to resolve them when in reality he did it himself by letting them go.

@@WJKaplan Which one? Zeus? Apollo? Amon? Ra? Or wait just your god? Let your ego centric human superiority shine my friend. How about ants what if they have a god, but wait I forgot humans are the center of the universe no god will ever be as strong as the human ego.

@@dmcentYT the fact that you mentioned all those different God-idols is a proof that mankind has a tendency to worship and turn themselves to a higher being. You should get to know the person of Jesus, and come back to me when you have had a deep dive on arguments about the existence of God. People have met him and felt him. He is present in our everyday life and has real power in the world. There is no one like him.

Yeah I’ve always been attracted to wild cards, much to my detriment haha. Nothing good ever happened with those people. But man was it exciting. I told my boyfriend the other day that these days I have to be very careful the people I choose to be close to. Because I am drawn to shocking and controversial people, and I’ll easily get swept up into their shenanigans, because I’m a daredevil at heart. My life depends on me sticking around safe and stable people haha. Or at least stable quirky people. But not the people who were getting us into life threatening situations or law breaking situations every time I was with them. Im also in Adult children of alcoholics and one of the traits on the laundry list is that we’re addicted to excitement, and that’s always been my M.O.

It’s sad how many qualifiers he feels he has to apply to his feeling compelled to pray. The groups who preach non-judgement seem to reserve all their judgement for those who believe in God. To which the rebuttal is (quite justifiably) “well have you seen how they judge everyone else?” But spirituality and God is a whole side of life which has evolved with humanity from the dawn of our consciousness. Whether you “believe” it or not, the real question is what is it? What does it mean that we so collectively feel the desire to reach out to a higher power. Anyway, I don’t remember why I started this. 😂 I’ll put this soapbox beside the others.
