I watched your video’s for years dreaming of the “someday” when I might get chickens. Then early during covid my hubby said, “If you still want chickens, why don’t you go for it.” What a great day…. and yes he enjoys the girls now too! I knew your coop was the one for us. I paid in two parts and even got the storm windows for my American Coop. I don’t regret one penny I spent. It’s three and a half years for us and I would buy a second coop if I had more room. Thanks for all you and you entire team at CC does building us the best coops in the world!

Sooo…. What do you guys think? We are trying to be very creative to help explain why we do what we do. Let us know if you have a video idea.

I have a bunch of video ideas 💡, but my editing isn't the best because I'm actually working all the time. I know you hate lights in the hen house and run because of running electric to the coop, but if it's just lights, you can run a small 12v solar system with a small battery and panel, you use a regular AC switch, a tiny charge controller and battery and E26 12v light bulbs, get the glass ones because your coop is classy, I'm sure Ethan could figure it out, super easy, you offer this service to turn key coops as a cheap lighting solution with no electrical inspections needed.

Matt, video content on getting from the chicks arriving at home - to getting them settled in the coop would be helpful. If I can keep the peace in the house and in the brooder, for the next three weeks…how do I explain to the chicks that they are moving? I have the American Coop…and the ropey roosting bars, the hemp bedding,etc. Will they know what to do once I put them in their new home??? Should I plan on reading them Green Eggs and Ham at bedtime???

Great video. We built our coop with many of your accessories and you have taught me a ton! I would love to do a VCL with DIY builders.

We can attest to this being true! Our coop doesn't smell! We only have 4 chickens, but they're happy girls! Thank you, Carolina Coops! 💜💜💜

I've been a follower of the channel for a long time but this question just popped into my head. Is there such a thing as "starter microbes", kind of like yeast, that you could add to the hemp right from the beginning?

Actually yes. We did a podcast on discussing how to kick start the deep litter system. In a nutshell just add some topsoil.

Hello. Happy Sunday. Been following the live streams for a few weeks. I have seven three week olds. They are in a 100 gallon water troff being used as a brooder. T,hey are getting to big for it already but it’s expensive to buy a larger one. Also the American Coop I bought is not finished with the build and it’s too cold in our area to move them outside. What’s worse is I think I may have a rooster or two which I wasn’t planning on. Any suggestions?

And actually, what would be good for people in the future is a brooder kit. Maybe one that could become part of the coop once the chicks get bigger. I would have bought one regardless of the extra cost.

We had 7 chicks at got too big for a tote. My husband took one sheet of plywood and cut it to make 4 boards that were 2 feet each, notched each to slide together. We put a piece of tarp underneath and placed it on top and then added the bedding. We put an old piece of wire closet over top so they could not fly out. He even made a roost bar to fit in there. It was a cheaper alternative and it was in our garage which was a lot warmer than outside.

I use a tiny coop and also use a dog kennel for free and that works for 8 chickens and also less and we put fence around the area of the coops and they run in there and we have a tree in there so that they can dust bath close there and it works for us and we drill a stick in the tree so they can fly there and they know to come down and go in the coop and we also hang food there and let them free range like 1 gets to go outside on Monday and another on tuesday and that works and that for me and for the new chickens we put in the tiny coop and that so they won’t pick each other and we put an fence between the new chickens and the natural chickens and that’s how I do it but we took the fence down because they are used to each other so I go in to take care of them in the morning ish. And only one of my chickens isn’t acting normal but the rest are fine we also have medicine in our water for sick chickens, and we use like some hay chips in some areas and dirt where they dust bathe and stuff so that works for us

Unfortunately with the economy being so stressful I need to postpone buying at this time. It’s very hard to justify to a spouse spending thousands of dollars for a chicken coop. Almost everything has gone up in price. Holly Ridge, NC

What I’ve done is my dad has bought a tiny coop and then we got an dog cage from someone and it helped so 3 goes in the coop and the rest in our dog cage and also put a fence around the area and have an tree to put food and everything and we do have poop in there but we use hay we just clean the hay after 2 months and take that out and keep putting hay in and that works for me also we put a stick (stable) and then they sleep there and it’s super easy for me and in the day I also put them out in the area that is separate so they can run around.

Mice! How do I mouse proof my co-op?
@CarolinaCoopsVideos
@CarolinaCoopsVideos 7 ай бұрын
So, chickens in themselves can often be good preventers of mice, but, mice are very difficult because they only need an opening the size of a pencil to fit through. We recommend using silicone calk in between boards. In our latest podcast Matt addresses this question:kzbin.infoDAgDAgSmMT8?si=xKC7nmwdlq8ungqs

We had a broody hen give up on her clutch of eggs for the last day of the 21 day incubation. We opened the eggs and there were 3 chicks inside. WTF?
