Why PhD - Breaking the Myths by IISc, Division of EECS

Studies have indicated several misconceptions about Ph.D., and students often do not get first-hand exposure to Ph.D. opportunities in India. This leads to many leaving India to search for Ph.D. opportunities elsewhere. In addition, students are often unaware of the opportunities post-Ph.D. We have embarked to change this by directly engaging with students. In this direction, we hosted a session on Oct. 27th, 2022, in which we engaged with students across the country to walk them through (1) What is Ph.D., (2) What the general myths related to Ph.D. are, (3) Global opportunities, in general, post-Ph.D. in India, (4) Why one should do Ph.D., (5) Who should peruse Ph.D., and in the end (6) Ph.D. opportunities in EECS (ECE/EE/CS), IISc Bangalore. Listen to this talk and my colleagues/IISc students. As we gather experience, we will offer more such sessions in the future.

In 2019 I was attending Ph.D interview in IISC. Unfortunately I didn't clear the exam of course I didn't prepare. According to myself Ph.D is not a degree rather than exploring knowledge /truth(based on Science Or experiment) in some field. But so many Interviews/written exams Restricting people who wish to discover knowledge in reputed institute like IISC.

my perception is they just test your basics very rigorously so that you can cope with the higher level knowledge needed in phd. one should not see it as lots of exams and tests but just a testing of the knowledge

Apply through formal channels and sit in the interview (if shortlisted for interview). Writing to professors is not mandatory.
