This took quite a few years to figure out but it all made since at one event years ago. Have you always wondered why some guys come to your lake and do so good against the locals. In this video I give away a secret that I've carried with me for years.

I think your spot-on. I'm a "local" at Ross Barnett. The lake is notorious for fishing small and certain areas, that produce, get hammered. Go back to Connell's win here a few years ago. He wasn't in the running after the first day but weighed a respectable bag. After the leaders fished out the community holes, he stayed on his pattern that was "sumthing different " and was consistent all 4 days with around 15 lbs and got the win. That's a great topic!

This is real knowledge. Thanx for giving away my son and i's secret ( just kidding). But it's true. Matt and I have finished in the top ten...four out of six years (in the biggest tournament in Oregon) using this perspective. Fishing pressure is big but not on many fishermans mind.

I hope the process videos are awesome, I can’t wait to see them. On this vid, you are right that pressure does not cause them to not bite, it moves them or at least changes them in some way. The big trick is knowing what they will do or where they will go (imho). They’re still in the lake, lol. Obviously, unpressured fish work too, but often that means a very long boat ride.

Man oh man. I knew the 1st time I seen one of your videos there was a common denominator. I wasn't sure what it was. I even noticed that when I got away from your videos that something always brought me back a couple months later. Now I know what it is. This whole video was great but the last 45 seconds keyed me in. I've always told my fishing buddies "you got to remember all we see is the catching on TV or videos we don't get to see the labor or what goes into it". Finally someone is going to show the process. Thank you I can't wait. To many people get spun out by not catching them instantly me included and within the last year or so I have been trying to train myself on the process not the end result. I'm really looking forward to these videos. I was at smith one if the days yall fished, put my little javelin in while yall was waiting on fog delay and I wish I'd known you was there I would have come spoke to you. Still kicking my ass over it.

When I first started bass fishing in the 70's I was fishing a small lake and ran into the man who had the reputation as the best angler on the lake . There was a bank in a creek that no-one fished and I asked him if he ever fishes it .He replied no because there was nothing over there . I've been catching bass on that stretch ever since and it still doesnt get fished much .

Very good points casledine, it is a hard thing esp on 1 day events but what's even harder and I'll give my situation the lakes around me that we have local txs, bfls etc the guys that always win are the guys who live closest to the lake and are out there more than the rest of us. It's hard to win in a situation like that because most of the events are 1 day events. Now that's a topic of discussion lol how to beat the locals. They are just 1 to 1.5 hrs away for most of us but when u work during the week and only have few weekends here an there it's tuff!

This is funny you bring this up. The last 4 weeks.. local tournaments.. 1st, 3rd and took big bass, and one bag couldnt get number 5 but we were right there.. big went 8.28.. only been fishing a year and change.. i noticed everytime we do well or really well we have water all to ourselves.. i would be looking around and thinkin either im and idiot or everyone else just keeps doing the same thing lol.. but lake traffic to fisherman ive noticed how much the bite changes when you get that all involved.. thanks for sharing

Great video Todd. And that is truly the secret of finding your own fish, not relying on dock talk, trading waypoints, etc. I believe that is what separates the ones who fish for the love of the sport from those who only fish to 'beat someone else'. Looking forward to the future content from you and Hallman.

You talkin info, you talkin spots, you talkin dock talk, now you talkin pressure 🤯🤯🤯 I will say this video has really made me think and I’m going to change some things up cuz I’ve been that Tuesday practice day hero with a bad tournament not thinking about the pressure days before the tournament. This has been an issue for me when moving up 20 locals versus 50- 100 who have been all over the lake for days. Multi days vs singles also. A hero today maybe zero tomorrow. I can’t make that adjustment. Yet…….
@donflanary166
@donflanary166 2 жыл бұрын
Good stuff. Multi day tournaments are a whole different animal from one day events... Sometimes you can set down and get paid in a community hole but very rarely will it hold up long term, you can leave to try to save them but it will get fished by others and locals for sure. Bad thing is you begin to share fish and everyone fishing there have their weights go down. Good advice given. I try to have multiple spots and techniques to fall back on but weather, pressure etc can change the fish for me. Fish management comes into play and I’m not great at it as I am used to 1 day tournaments, biggest 5 to the scales. Lots of good advice to think about right here....

I fished BASS in the early 90’s. The whole field fished all 3 days. I think I cashed more times on secondary type patterns than when I found the right deal. In a draw event by day 3 everyone knows what the hot pattern is and the fish get throttled. When I something that was OK but not the best thing I always moved up day 3 since nobody else was fishing my fish. When I was close to the bubble on the hot pattern the pressure always hurt me.

Also the local guys don't make a living from bass fishing. If all I did was fish for a living I could fish 3 to 5 days solid. I don't fish tournaments but I fish my local lake as much as possible. But after a day of fishing I know I could come back the next 3 days and really figure them out. I got out before sunrise the other week and I found the bite around 2 unfortunately. I got 16 lbs that day but I can't go back the next day. I gotta work 6 days a week and could never even consider fishing 3 or 4 days straight or entering a tournament bc I gotta make money...Love the video tho man. Made me really think about alot of things! And I think it will help me put some bass in the boat tomorrow

Fishing pressure, if you apply first principle thinking and strip it down to its most basic form just like anything, is pretty easy to understand. It's, essentially, taking a predator and turning it into prey. How does an instinctual predatory creature react to a more advanced predator? There are a several options that arise from this and is subject with varying places, conditions, etc. This is where you start. This is first principle thinking, in a nutshell. Most likely the fish will "hide" or change their behavioral patterns(which why reaction strikes can be absolutely crucial-think of a lot of KVD's winning bags, a lot of reaction stuff).

I gave up tournament fishing 20 years ago. But I pay attention to the guys from my neck of the woods who are trying to move up. They are all on an equal footing in 1 day and 2 day tourneys. But in a longer event most fall apart on day 3 or day 4. IT's a whole lot tougher to find 4 days worth of fish than it is three days worth of fish, and 3 days worth is harder than two days worth. Even when they might have enough fish, they sometimes make the mistake of trying to put it away on day 2. Man, if you don't have a really good alternative area in your back pocket, don't do that!

Your videos are truth no eye catching flurries of botched filmmaking just real honest video. I love them and can say what you say is something I've known for a while but just never in your perspective. I have and always fish the boat ramps I run every one I can find on any lake I fish and have actually had 1 win and several top 5 just in local and club tourneys . So I will say "POINT TAKEN AND UNDERSTOOD "to a brand new way . You and Bradley are 2 of my favorites and I followed Hallman when he was catching fence pandas on Lanier for the flw win on Lanier in ga. Totally newer would've even though about that pattern now those same harbors,or do kings are beat to death every day of the year and all other like it. I actually think that pressure makes the fish move ,same area but a offshore close by cover. Just my thoughts no proof.,keep Em coming love the truth in your vids.
