The one thing I'd be cautious about with the SE Custom 24 Quilt Charcoal Cherry Burst is the actual guitar you buy will not look like that beauty in the picture. I've seen many of these on Reverb and they look nothing like the sexy pic on the PRS website. It's like seeing a magazine cover of someone where there was obvious "Air Brushing" to make them look hotter than they really are

I’d say the same for some Core models too. Some look better in pictures than irl

I was at guitar center and the PRS CEs the 500 dollar ones played a million times better than the 3k les paul standards . The les pauls had tiny tiny frets while the PRS had jumbo frets and more playable fingerboards flatter way easier to play

This doesn’t surprise me. People often underestimate how much frets matter to a feel of a guitar

I had the exact same eye opener happen to me at GC several years ago. I went in to buy a $3200 Gibson LP an walked out with a PRS SE 245 along with a used Roland Blues Cube amp with my savings AND still had a good bit of money in my pocket. And yes I did like the frets much better also.

Utkarsh, you are way too optimistic. We get it that you have a sweet spot for PRS products, however most guitar players out there don't care for PRS. To them great tops and piezo will not make any difference, they just don't buy PRS. Majority of players will not pay premium for extra nice tops. In our day and age there are so many options out there that PRS (despite making great instruments) just gets lost in this sea of choices.

3:40 I always wondered why the SE quilt tops were able to be SO perfectly bookmatched and done so well at that price point. It’s a thin veneer, I never knew that! So they can cut multiple tops from one normal thickness top. Learn something new every day. Another great video man thanks for the entertainment 🤙

I've wanted a piezo equipped 24 fret with a trem bridge for a long time because I'm a big Opeth fan, but the only PRS option was the P24 at 5-6k. I finally bought a US CE24 semi-hollow (wood library no less) because I fell in love with the feel of it in the store, and I'm almost done installing Graphtech Ghost piezo saddles and preamp into it to get a P24 at half the price. Then, they go and drop an SE version of this exact guitar, which is about half of what mine was for the guitar and Ghost system. Makes me wish I'd waited a couple months. Though I'm sure the SE won't be nearly as nice as mine.
@ministryofguitarАй бұрын
Oh man I feel for you. Opeth is the exact reason I have custom 24 piezos. They are one of my favourite brands. That said, you are right. The USA CE24s are a different league to SEs and Graphtech Ghost Saddles actually give a great sound. I have them on one of my private stocks

Off topic. But you are my guy for PRS questions. Are there any lap guitar models? I am looking at getting a Strandberg. I was going to get a Flying V. But after your feedback about having had one as a main guitar yourself I decided to look for something else. I have decided to get a Strandberg as a couch guitar. Is there a PRS like that to be considered for comparison? Thank you for the video.

For an acoustic sound. It's quite useful if you play any songs that require both electric and acoustic sounds for the same song , you don't need to have a separate guitar on a stand or change your guitar part way through the song.

I had a PRS SE mcCarty double cut in the blue, bought it on a whimm as during the last PMT online sale they mistakingly put it up for 650 pounds. a day later it was corrected and put back to 850 pounds (gbp) Had the guitar for a few months then sold it, played great , excellent quality, but i got to the stage where i just did not bond with its look. Sold it for 750, made 100 in profit. Then i bought a Eastman Juliet :) and have not regretted it. But i do admire PRS guitars, just not found that one that jumps out at me looks wise.

Let's look at Fender Strats. All the way back in 1987, Fender introduced the American Standard Strat and a few years later, the made in Mexico Standard Strat came out. These were very different guitars. Now there is the American Pro I and the made in Mexico Player Strat. The Player Strat was much more similar to the American Pro that I suspect Fender maybe skimped on a few things to avoid cannibalizing sales of the American Strat......and the PRS came out with the Silver Sky SE which competed directly with the Player. In response, Fender now has the Player II Series.

I had a Jackson Performer back in the late 90's along with a ESP Mirage that had these type wood grains and colors on them. I paid like $600 each for them. One was Tiger grain Red and the other ESP was a beautiful Green wood grain. I wish I would not have gotten rid of them. I tried to like PRS, but the bridges on them to me just suck. I'm a heavy Tremolo player and unless it has a Floyd on it, I really don't like them. Im also not into the birds on the neck. I know they have dot inlays and stuff, but a guitar really needs to hit all my needs before I tough it. Or I will build it myself.

How can you know that these guitars are good when you have not tested them? IMHO the piezo ist not for the casual player. It is another gimmick with the intent to make people pay a lot for something they almost never use once they have figured out their settings. I have to admit that it looks adorable and I would buy it, but I cannot justify paying 1700 $ instead of 500-600 $ for the CE Satin. Besides, most people play at home and alone now. Regarding tone wood: It is only important for acoustic guitars. For electric guitars, humbucker type and number coil turns is important as well as strings and how strings are sitting. In general, it is all about how energy is distributed from the string and the conservation of energy. There is a channel of a german professor (Physik der E-Gitarre) which explains this scientifically. He also compared a 200 € Harley Benton with his several thousand € Gibson Les Paul. A lot depends on the quality of manufacturing.
@ibinTZYАй бұрын
Piezo is certainly not a gimmick. Many artists can't be taking multiple guitars along for a set that involves variety of sounds and thats where something like Peizo cames into play. Makes life easier and it is easier setup than an acoustic guitar. Big bands like Opeth, John Petrucci uses it for a reason. I am on the tonewood thing with you...i will never understand that 😂😂

@@ibinTZYI agree. I have one on one of my telecasters and I use it. It keeps me from swap guitars for a small part of songs that require a few acoustic fills. My local luthier charged me about $100 for the pickup and about half that to install.
