Thank you for your explanation, Saad. There were people filming but with iPhones. It seems that your presence in Rabat, coincided with one of the cases of security alert that precedes an important political event, such as the visit of senior officials from foreign countries . In such cases, especially in the capital, Police officers are usually more stringent in enforcing the law! Generally speaking, photographs and video from mobile devices are allowed in any public place in Morocco. However, for video on professional and semi-professional devices, a prior license from CCM (Moroccan Centre for Cinematography) is required.
@YadVenturess2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing, that is totally understandable and i have no issues with obtaining a certain license if required. The issue in this situation was the way it was handled and they way they make a tourist/person feel is not the best.

Hi Fouad, apparently filming with your phone is fine. We had a professional camera with a microphone which triggered the undercover police. There were no warning signs about filming not being allowed, so such drastic approach with us held at a point and having to wait for major’s decision on what will happen to us was a bit unwarranted. A simple warning would have sufficed.
@MarokoJin2 жыл бұрын
@@dacedaine822 it's for political reasons. We still have issues with the neighbouring country (Algeria arming a separatist group) over our southern provinces (they basically want a vassal state to get access to the Atlantic, we also had issues regarding borders after the independance so the best way to make us forget about it? Get more from our own territory and it's working for now). So as a tourist, you're either getting here "visa free" (US and UK and Schengen Space in Europe, Japan and some other developped countries), or with a tourist visa (from other developped country, or the rest of the world). This means personal visits. Using cameras and mics, even fir vlogging in some specific places, can be seen as a "professionnal presence" and this requires another type of visa... those who have it have already filled the purpose of the visit, the places they want to film,etc and they're not bothered by the way, because police already knows about them... for the rest of individuals? It will raise suspicions and they will be more likely to intervene.

Salam alaikum my friend, Meh, don't take it personally. There are certain areas where filming is sometimes randomly forbidden for mysterious reasons. There are some people who want to exert authority and assert their insecurity into other people's business. Props for the patience. Otherwise, Moroccan people can be extremely welcoming. I speak objectively even though I'm a moroccan myself, but I have my bad days as well and I represent myself. Wherever your journey takes you, enjoy yourselves.

Apologies for what happened to you We've been pushing for a right to film in public for a very long time. There should be no expectancy of privacy in public, and no one (police officer or not) should tell you to stop filming These idiots are the reason the tourism rate hasn't picked up despite the potential Morocco has. basically the current law states that you can't film people without their permission. But most Moroccans do so all the time unless someone requests not to be filmed So legally speaking, the police can arbitrarily be assholes and start questioning people for no reason

Yeah, it is very weird for me as a Moroccan that I don't have the right to film in public. Not to mention these idiots security guards being rude to everyone.

As mention and I agree with this comment . KZbinr with channel called : best ever food review show ( 10 millions subscribers ) , american that was humiliated for filming in Egypt . Egypt did change the entire law after this incident to make it legal to film in most scenarios ( except large production ). Well in morocco it required same law. Individual action that can result in very negative review in the reputation of the country. Most morocco tourists are Moroccans that visit with foreign passports ... Now , you know no wonder why ? I am sorry for this event and I am glad that you mention it

True, Youssef here got it all here for you and I confirm what he said, and it's totally okay for anyone to hold his camera and film in the public here in Morocco. Hope y'all have a great day.

Sorry, you got it wrong. Most of the Hassan Tower was built and those pillars were the ancient mosque but were half destroyed by an earthquake . It was supposed to be a twin Mosque and minaret to the Giralda in Seville... I feel so ashamed about your police incident. They're so ignorant, to the point of behaving in a disgusting way, which will have a negative impact on tourism in general... they aren't even smart enough to understand they're doing harm to tourism...I hope you just forget about that distasteful incident and carry on with what you're doing...

As a Moroccan, I have no knowledge myself about forbidding filming in the Hassan Tower, but I believe that's what the guard was trying to tell you in 27:15.. I guess you're allowed to take pictures but not to film. Our police officers are not always very nice unfortunately, but they're not being intentionally rude either, they're just doing their job and they treat everyone the same way, with seriousness and firmness. Too bad you didn't see the the inside of the mausoleum where the late kings are buried, it's really astounding.

I'm Moroccan residing in the US and every time I go back to my hometown Rabat I go to those same places and take pictures and videos and nobody ever said anything. I even took a video of the guards at the entrance of Hassan on top of their horses and they didn't say a word. As a matter of fact I saw some Israeli Moroccans last December in that spot taking pics and video and nobody dared telling them a thing. They were all over Rabat because I saw them again in l'oudaya even playing music and dancing and videotaping, and I took a video of that as well. I think the cops try that Sh*% with foreigners so that they can make them nervous in the hopes of getting money out of them. It's disgusting and definitely shows a bad image of the country.

18:07 By the way, he gave you a very nice deal, an actual regular deal, he wasn't trying to rip you off, he did what he does with Moroccans, this is a normal behavior among Shop owners in Morroco they go over the price because people like to bargain a lot so he can get what he originally wanted to sell it for after all the negotiations are over!
@YadVenturess2 жыл бұрын
In the end i thought it was a good deal, but after i have worn it once and washed it the shirt has shrunk! and i cannot wear it again... so not sure if it was a good deal in the end...
