One of my favorite lines in the entire Cosmere: You have failed utterly, Hoed. You are not one of them; you haven’t the powers you promised us you’d gain. You’ve accomplished nothing. What beauty is there in this situation?” Hoid stepped out over the pool with one foot. “You do not know me well, friend, so I will forgive such a silly question. The beauty? It lies in the fact that there are secrets that remain unknown.” He smiled broadly. “And I love a good puzzle.”

my current favorite pet theory is Elantris is just Sanderson grappling with the part he played in westernizing east Asian countries (specifically Korea)

Why read the prose version of White Sand? It’s Brandon Sanderson’s only Cosmere book series to be in comicbook form! If I could draw and afford one or more illustrators on a regular basis, I would write comicbooks myself!

I read Elantris once via audiobook and wasn’t a big fan. But I’m also finding that I don’t connect as well with his works that I listen to. I think seeing the words aids my memory better and helps me form images better in my mind.

I'm a sucker for city building in just about anything, so I had a really good time during the Raiden chapters, also it has a small child brutally murdered off screen because of the actions of the main character, so that's fun. I really like the dynamic between Hrathen and Dilaf, and the part when Hrathen tries to send him away hand me rolling. The reveal of what happened to Elantris is one of my favorites in anything, it's a classic "they pretry much just tell you in chapter one" you just don't realize it until much later.
@TheCosmerenaut

I just read the entire cosmere in about 90 days, I basically read it in release order, except Elantris, I saved that for almost last, and besides not already knowing a couple characters in lost metal, I think it was the correct choice for me, If I were to have read it 1st I don't know if I wouldn't love it as much as I do. I'm obsessed with this world and the magic systems and I think it's because of the build up of information I have from all the rest of it, I want a sequel to this almost as bad as warbreaker

I read this first. I found it a bit of a slog at first, but it really picks up. My second read was on audiobook, it was much more enjoyable. Also ive read everything cosmere, including unreleased... Well ive read everything sanderon, except the librarian books! And the new wiards guide book, i so hope theres a towl Easter Egg in there!!! But ill settle for "DON'T PANIC"

I started with Mistborn. Then when I decided to actually dive into The Cosmere I went back and read Elantris. I'll admit I wasn't impressed. It's. Just. So. Gloomy! But having caught up to all the published Cosmere books I do want to go back and give it a second try. Knowing what I know now, and knowing how important and powerful the Dor is. I definitely want to re-read it.

Ill say this being far more pessimistic about it to new readers I find makes them like it more. If you hook them into mist born and the cosmere and lowball it they come out pleasantly surprised which I think is nice.
