Why Read Mastricht's Theoretical-Practical Theology? // Petrus van Mastricht's Magnum Opus

In this video I'm share why pastors and others should consider reading Theoretical-Practical Theology by Petrus van Mastricht. In this video I also get into Jonathan Edwards recommendation of Mastricht, the three reasons Joel Beeke gives for why pastors must read Mastricht's magnum opus, a summary of the content of Mastricht's full work, and more
This video was filmed in the Spring of 2024 when only four volumes to date have been published. The full work, once translated from Latin and Dutch into English and edited will contain a promised 7 volumes. The current page number is 1700 for volumes 1-4.

Kevin DeYoung recently did an interview with Todd Rester (PhD, Calvin Theological Seminary) about Petrus van Mastricht's Theoretical-Practical Theology. Rester is an associate professor of church history at Westminster Theological Seminary and more to the point he's also the translator behind van Mastricht's work. The work is projected) to be 7 volumes. Thus far 4 volumes have been released. But in the interview Rester notes he has already handed in draft versions of the final 3 volumes.

Have the first four volumes. Wasn't expecting volume 7 until 2026 according to the RHB release dates. Excited that the next three will be out by the end of the year.

Sorry if I misspoke in the video… Todd Rester confirmed on DeYoung LBE podcast in April that translation for all three remaining volumes to come out is done (and he actually has moved onto translating a different Mastricht work already). He also disclosed that scheduled editing deadlines for volumes 5, 6, & 7 are June 2024, Septemberish 2024, and December 2024 respectively. So, while I don’t want them to rush and make mistakes so each is the best it can be… I am hopeful that even if we get minor editing delays we can get the final volumes throughout 2025. At least that is my hope! 🤞
