Why Read & Write Literary Criticism?

Thanks for recommending "No Judgment" and "Natural Supernaturalism," I'm starting both of them now. Given this topic, you may like "The Image" by Daniel J Boorstin. In it - written in the 60s - he coined the term "pseudo-event," and a LOT of the things he talks about in that book relate to how Americans filter and view media (like books). It might be the most revealing book I've read on what it means to participate in Americana. Also, Boorstin went on to become the Librarian of Congress for 20+ years, and the book recommendation list he has at the end of "The Image" is exemplary, because where else in life are you gonna get book recs from the Librarian of Congress?! Boorstin is a writer whose work I am thoroughly familiar with. His book "The Discoverers" is one of the most important books to my early reading, and the experience carried over in to reading his other work, including "The Image." Also, just to clarify: I am glad you have felt prompted to read "Natural Supernaturalism" and "No Judgment," but I did not explicitly recommend them; I cited Abrams' book, and more specifically its impact on me; and I had not begun reading "No Judgment" at the time I recorded this video, but had merely cited something its author said during a talk about the book. This is not a model of recommendation, but of reference.
