They are also selling players at a point before the value drops due to age (varane, Casemiro), whilst keeping ones that are performing into their late 30s (Modric, benzema, Kroos). Really putting Barca to shame with how well run they have been.

I’m a Bayern Fan & I have to say Real’s system, philosophy, La Fabrica, & spending is by far the best. Bayern were frugal for many years (they lacked squad depth & over relied on XI) City & Liverpool rely on their coaches in acquiring players, training talent etc. Abrahamovic’s Chelsea was a crazy horse with 3 headed transfer dragon (they bought, sold, & loaned everything under the sun) I think NewCastle will follow city’s lead & either Ten Hag, Arteta, or Baldiola will be their man @ helm after he wins UCL.

It's not just the young player signings Real gets right. Perez recognized the importance of a balanced squad with experience AND youth. David Alaba is the perfect example. An incredible free transfer for a player with skill and years of experience in Bayern. A great personality to guide the youngsters and a valuable backup when he gets older.

Another big part is that the transition of these players into the starting XI while the old guards are still going strong. Lots of things to learn for them... More than just the game, they learn the discipline, mental fortitude, the persona of the White jersey and playing for the club... Ancelotti stressed after the Champions League win last season that the players are also fans of the club. You can't buy something like this... You need to build faith, trust and develop this from a young age. Players who are willing to go to battle for the badge!

Feel that one of the core essences of this policy is that joining Real is an aspiration for many, it is the end goal. Therefore, this tactic has a unique advantage since these players are unlikely to leave. Compare that to Monaco - where many great youngsters who all left for bigger clubs (Mbappe, Fabinho, Bernardo Silva, etc) It's not really a model that can be copied because very few clubs have both the capital and allure to young footballers.

I feel like too many fans get too much absorbed by frivolous debates . And that, in my opinion, takes away from the game. Barca were the best club on the planet between 2009-2012. The way that they embarrassed RM and others proves so. Messi is the best footballer of his generation by a mile, and any comparisons made between CR7 to him are greatly under-appreciating just how vasly superior Messi is. RM is the greatest club of all time and the FIFA award of greatest club of 20th century proves so. And although I am a RM fan (obviously lol), I am a fan of beautiful football first, and I always appreciate and enjoy beautiful football even if it’s played by rival clubs.

He dominated the PSG midfield in 2019 and was one of the pillars in a Rennes side that qualified for the CL as a 16 yr old kid ffs :p He even made his debut for Les Bleus almost a year prior to his transfer and even scored if i remember correctly. Surprised the Tifo team didn't give Juni Calafat a mention. The chief scout along with his team really paved the way for scouting and eventually recruiting these youngsters. In contrast to the Mourinho years where you'd basically find the 'ideal galactico' lineup, Calafat with Perez's go-ahead changed the recruitment policy by signing players like the ones mentioned in the video + Militao. Now obviously he's not a miracle worker and ultimately depends on the players at the end of the day. But just goes to show how influential he's been in their recent UCL and league expeditions. Obviously the work is far from over for Juni but credit where its due for the Spaniard.

The real watershed or clutch moment by Flo Perez was letting Ronaldo go at the moment he did. Three things happened right there. 1. The seniors got shook up and started taking more responsibilities like Ramos, Benz. 2. The juniors got a very clear message that coming to Real Madrid was not the end but the beginning and they must focus only on football. 3. Perez by not going for a replacement for Ronaldo, implied he valued the remaining players as much. These are the reasons why Real Madrid won ligas and CL when they are really in a transition. I have not, probably will never see a club selling their most valuable asset the way Perez did with a CL and money in the bank. He is the Don. What a leader!

Best thing they have going for them is the respect that everyone has for them. A player knows damn well that if Real is interested in them is because they have potential and that Real won't tolerate anything less than excelence. If they give it their all, they'll earn max reward. I'm not sure if I explained it as well as I wanted but it's rare to see someone that is marketed as very talented arrive at Real and not succeed and prove the marketing right. The overall culture of Real Madrid brings that out of people. I think if Neymar had gone to Real instead of Barça, Neymar would've been a much greater player

Sacoto98 Neymar was perfectly fine at Barcelona. He was thriving actually. And I say that as a Madrid fan. It was also the smart move for him because he plays better on the left side and at the time Ronaldo was on the left. But at Barca Messi was on the right so he could take his preferred left side role. His move to PSG was the bad move. Not that he isn't good there but to me he has nevef been better than when he was at Barcelona and he was still getting even better. His pride and ego made him make the mistake of leaving Barca and one day he will confess his mistake maybe when he is long retired.

I think the real watershed moment is when neymar was signed by Barcelona… real had long been trying to sign him but didn’t want to splash out the cash demanded by santos and his agent… and he went to Barcelona… since then, real had been more active chasing promising youngsters…. Theo, ceballos, reinier, Vinicius, rodrygo, odegaard, etc… some of them were since sold because they failed to live up to expectations and some were sold to make funds for the impending signing of Mbappe which didn’t happen.. I am guessing real will have money to bring in at least one more of these promising youngsters in huge fees… given the amount that was saved for mbappe…

This is why Real Madrid won 14 UCL yes maybe in the past they are stacking themselves with superstars hence established the infamous Galacticos era. But when the FFP is implemented they quickly adapted and abandoned their galacticos transfer policy in favor of pursuing prospective youngsters and veteran. They even let some of their core players go to make sure they can have prosperous end of their career (e.g. Ronaldo, Ramos, Casemiro, Varane etc.). Unfortunately this is not the case for the rest of the world, the effects of Premier League led transfer policy can be felt throughout the world and somehow resulted in inflated transfer price, multi club ownerships, state owned clubs, leveraged transfers, as well as the creation of 'loan army'. Regardless whether these approaches successful or not we already know that Madrid has learned its lesson while others are striving to have its own 'Galacticos'.

Their Transfer policy is to just be the biggest pull to Spanish or Latin/brazillian/portuguese heritage players, in more recent times French as well because of e.g. Zidane. As the biggest and most supported club amongst that high talent demographic and so they can easily get the most talented players from those backgrounds to the club. They still spend huge money by the way, especially for the money their league brings in as a whole they are head and shoulders in front for spending but that is also because they generate so much more revenue than any other team in their league. Because of the size and siccess of the club, in a similar way to Bayern do it specifically to the bundesliga they can also just get the best free agents going from most leagues. Personally dont think their policy would be transferable anywhere else

I love how you put rodrygos jersey in the middle at 5:47, since, to me, he often gets overlooked especially in comparison to Vinicius. Once rodrygo, who seems reserved and a little shy, develops his personailty he will run circles around vinicius. I hope that whoever succeeds ancelotti (hopefully raul) sees this and moves rodrygo either to his preferred left side or into the middle of the pitch where his intelligence is so valuable. he is a little wasted on the right side of the pitch.

Pedro Zapata he must learn to adapt. Great footballers do that. They adapt. Bale was a left winger for years at Tottenham but when he went to Madrid, Ronaldo was on the left so he had to adapt to playing on the Right. Di Maria too. Had to adapt to playing on the right initially, and then when Bale came, he had to adapt to playing on the left side of a midfield three and sometimes as a wide midfielder in a 4-4-2 formation. He will never take the left side coz Vini has made it his own. No excuses. You're a pro footballer. Learn and adapt.

One thing I find interesting is how buying players young varies by position. Attackers seem to be the ones most of all you can spot early at 15 or 16 years old as having a good chance of being special. Rodrygo, Vini, Endrick, even Neymar all identified and becoming global names at this early age. Take a step back to midfield and that age seems to go up to more like 17 to 19 years old at being the earliest age where you can reliably pick out a future midfield star In defense it feels like it goes up a bit again with ages 19 to 22 being when you can really pick out the future defensive stars. Trying to predict the potential of defenders when they are very young seems much more difficult. Seems similar with Goalkeepers.

Real are kinda fortunate that ex Madrid players have a premium. If odegaard had signed and made his debut for Liverpool at 15, flopped and had loans in 3 different countries, there’s no way he’d be getting sold for 9 times the fee they signed him for. If a young player doesn’t make it there, other clubs will always be willing to take chances on them and give them good value.

Odegaard has steadily progressed. His seasons in the Netherlands were good, his season at Sociedad was fantastic. He was a top 5 midfielder in LaLiga that year and a Team of the season player in Eredivisie the year prior (the only non-PSV and non-Ajax player btw who were the two dominant forces that season). His transfer fee wasn't that high because of some "premium", it was that high because Arsenal knew they were getting a gem that was good enough to start for Madrid if it wasn't for Modric, Kroos and Valverde

I do appreciate their approach to youth players. Real Madrid's position is quite unique, as they are the clear end goal for any footballer, their location, weather condition and to a lesser extent the culture are more appealing to South American players and they kept a healthy age structure in the squad for many years now, keeping everyone alerted and fresh. However, in this context I do not understand transfers like Hazard for 115, Odriozola for 32, Reinier for 30 or Luka Jovic for 63 million, respectively. They were obviously overpaying for those. In know, in hindsight it is easy to judge, but each of these cases was in at least one aspect a deviation from their general transfer policy, be it in terms of age, resell value or overall quality potential. So while I think a good amount of their success is due to the transfer policy, I could imagine that the team would be even more impressive with the addition of 2 to 5 more promisingly talented players that could have originated in investing available spending capacity more coherent to their general guidelines.

It's interesting to see how transfer policy has changed at Real. As a teenager, i used to play football manager games and loved buying the best young talents right as they entered the scene. Of course, it totally worked out in simulated games. But Real's policy now strongly reminds me of that and I think they should keep going with it. In the long run they'll realise that it's unnecessary to pay €100m or more for a star player who is 25, 26 or 27.

More than the policy of young players what have brought lot of tittles in the last decade is the absolute commitment to make good sells and to let people left by good money. Higuaín, Di Maria, Ozil, Ronaldo, Varane, Casemiro… All of them sold with great profits and after let their best years in the club. Only with Bale we failed in selling in the top.
