Why Red Lanterns are Everywhere for Chinese & Lunar New Year | Legend of the Lantern Festival 元宵节 新年

I can't believe I forgot the most important part of Lantern Festival: Eating round delicious glutinous rice balls called tangyuan '湯圓' (Southern China, Taiwan and Southeast Asia) or yuanxiao '元宵' (Northern China). Lantern Festival (元宵节: 元宵節; Yuánxiāo jié), also called Shangyuan Festival (上元节; 上元節; Shàngyuán jié), marks the last day of the Lunar New Year Celebrations! Here's a fun origin story on why it's often celebrated with bright red lanterns, fireworks and firecrackers!
