Why Red Line is Given on Some Medicine Packs in Hindi | By Ishan
Red Line : Medicines with the Red Line on their strips should be consumed only with the doctor's prescription. Red Stripe Medicines - These medicines are sold only with medical prescription. Antibiotics, Anti allergenic, Anti inflammatory, and other medicines.
Rx : Rx means u need to take the following medicines as suggested by ur physician.
NRx : nRx stands for New Prescription. Drugs in the Schedule H and H1 category require a prescription; hence the word Rx appears on the medicine strip/bottle. If the drug is a narcotic controlled under the NDPS Act, it has to be indicated by the word nRx.
Xrx : XRx means that medicine can be purchased only on a valid prescription. In India only registered pharmacists could dispense the prescription drugs. Doctor can also dispense medicine but only on his own prescription.

I have bought many medicine with red stripe without doctor's prescription and medical shops sell without asking for prescription. They want business and don't bother prescription. And for customers too, it is not practical to go to doctor just to get prescription. For instance, I have migraine problem and I buy anti migraine tab which is under red stripe category. Now should I go to doctor every time I get migraine and pay and get prescription when I already know that I have migraine and I know what medicine to buy?
