Why do people retire in China. This is a 12 minute talk of my view on the subject. Yes I have more experience at this than most but not all foreigners. If you are a retired person and you find a place you like and can be happy why not. I actually love my life here and would have it no other way. Watch the video to find out why.

Low tax is not true....Salary tax are at the same level with western country. But you don't need to pay tax for your other incoming, for example, stock, bank interest.. Actually China has more tax than western people, especially for companies. And also don't forget beside of tax, China has lots of 'fee' which is another kind of tax.

I was in Nanning last year for two months and I loved it. I agree with you when you said home is where the heart is and mine is definitely in Nanning, China. I honestly did not want to leave and I have missed it every day since I left. I hope I am able to return soon. It is one of the most peaceful places I have ever lived and I was very comfortable there. I have a 7 year old son and I was never afraid of walking around the city or traveling through the country with him. I really loved the fruit and vegetable markets there. I am vegan and there was plenty of options for me. I miss the vegetarian restaurants there also. I enjoy your videos. It’s like watching videos from my home.

China: no property taxes , more than 70% people no need to pay income taxes , no tips , a lot of super cheap street foods , you don’t have to pay the expensive car cost like in the USA, and wonderful service once your got accident when you drive , no “surprise “ extra money, etc . Too much convenient things compared with the western world. The only negative side is the average income is lower than the western world but the price of life also lower even in bigger cities

There is no property tax in China because of China's state-owned enterprises. Most of the Chinese government's fiscal expenditures are paid by state-owned enterprises, so taxation is not the main source of finance for the Chinese government.

So the cost of living is lower. That means if you make a little more than average you would have a better living standard than the people in the west. Here in the USA you have to make a LOT MORE than average to live a good life. I would like to retire in China too. But I have my family and friends here.

I have traveled to China over 20 times. I enjoy the country. When i visit, I travel with a tourist Visa. Younger people can also obtain a work visa or an educational visa if the circumstances apply. I don' t believe Residence Visas are available for foreigners over a certain age. It is my understanding that China does not have any program for foreign retirees. I suspect your circumstance is unique as you have a wife who is a Chinese National. China is not unusual for having this policy as most countries don't want take take care of seniors from a different country. Please discuss the Visa programs for foreigners over age 60 in China. Maybe you have new information. I don't think Canada wants us "Yanks" either.

The one issue relative to wanting to live in China for retirement is the Visa. Perhaps you can address this on a future video. For most people, to retire in China is not feasible, due to the visa requirements. Food for thought.

My understanding is there is 10-year visa for many countries that have an agreement with Chinese gov't, once you get that visa you can enter China as many times as you wish, you can stay in China up to 6 months after each entry, that's why within every 6 months Gweilo 60 visit another country, then, back to China for another 6 months stay, so, you must visit another country within every 6 months, Japan, Korea, Russia, Thailand, India.... keep you busy. In addition, Gweilo 60 mentioned before, you can also apply for 2 years stay permit so that you don't have to visit another country in 6 months, and you can renew your permit. Totally agree, China and other SE Asian countries are super places for retirees. I've lived and worked all over the world from Europe to Australia, Middle East to SE Asia. Now comfortably retired as an Australian national, I've chosen to live long-term in SE Asia. My (unnamed) country of choice is one where English-speaking people can comfortably get by. It issues low-cost 10-year (renewable) retirement visas, allows me to own landed property, has low crime, low cost of living, no resentment of foreigners, 1st class health facilities and superb varieties of food. I would love to spend some time in China if not for my inability to speak Mandarin and absence of a long-term retiree visa program.

don't know how the situation is in Europe, but in the US the real fear is you are literally ONE accident away from poverty, it could be a car accident, a freak accident, a bad marriage, having a kid with the wrong partner, a bad boss, a bad business decision or just a night of fun turns into a credit card debt, there is no social safety net to fall back on in the US for most people.

Three of us stay 2 months in Cambodia expense per month $350 include eat out a few time a week, I miss sugar cane juice drink and all the yummy fruits. In china there a lot of good foods I miss bake razor clam in salt cover, noodle soup yummy.

Some of my fellow HK friends plan to live a nomadic style in China to experience different provinces and cities. Change a place to live every few months. For example, a breakdown of living costs, how to set up a bank account as a nonresident, how to move money in or out of the country, taxation issues, etc. There are a lot of such videos for retirement destinations such as Vietnam, Ecuador, etc, but I haven't seen this for China.

In CHINA one doesn't think about voting, because there is NOT a lot to complain about, as I had everything I wanted or needed. I was free to travel anywhere, and stay where I wanted to, I found everyone so friendly and helpful. Today in Western countries voting is more about ousting a Government, when dissatisfied with them.

Expats often say for a serious medical issue they can jump on a plane and go some other place. When you get to the airport you might be surprised they won't let you onto the plane if you have visible medical issues. They will require you to be cleared by a doctor who may not clear you because flying can cause serious problems for some conditions. Denied also if the doctor thinks you could have a crisis during the flight so a short flight is less risky than a 20 hour trip half way around the world.

China have long-term, multiple entry visa (1-10 years), you can stay up to 6 months (depend on what country you’re from). If you want to stay longer without getting in and out, you can find a part-time job there.

America is changing not for the better. The U.S. does have Social security and medical benefits but keep in mind everything is so expensive like rent, medicine, insurance, cost of living, etc. And, not to mention about the crime. Take the NYC subway for example, you have to watch your back constantly and I don't think you have to do that in the subway like China, Hong Kong or Japan.

Dragonfly, I don’t think you can own a house as a foreigner in China. Why buy and get stuck in one place? Rent and see if you like it. If not you simply move in the same city or find another place somewhere else. I do the same with cars. I lease my car for 3 years. If I want a different car I just turn it in and get a new one. If I like it, I buy it and keep it until I find a better one.

Getting a long term visa in China doesn't seem to be easy to get... can't seem to find much information on the subject. Apparently there are also visas for people of Chinese descent, but the onus is to proof it...no easy task. Well, I don't know about Canada. But in China, seniors of your age are very many, and many live close to each other in a community. So you don't get bored or lonely as you always have other seniors to hang out with, play chess, pokers, recreational activities in the parks. I bet you saw seniors do many activities in parks. And in case medical emergency, access to medical facilities is efficient.

Mary Ka’iulani Ori Ann Li Medicines are kind of ‘beans’ price in Asia. I never needed a prescription to buy medicine there. The deductibles you pay in the West actually cost more than the drugs. In Vietnam, My dogs had parvo virus. The cost for treatment at VET there was 2$ a day (including medicine and fluid).

Larry Wu I took my dogs to the VET run by government so it was cheaper than the private ones. But still, private sector is cheap too. I don’t know about the cost nowadays, but my dad went to a private hospital (without insurance) for ‘kidney stone laser treatment’ in 2008, they charged him 250 USD for 2 days there. In 2018, my brothers had heart surgeries, because he demanded extra services, his insurance just paid 60% of the cost, he paid 5,000USD out of pocket cost for 2 heart surgeries.

Marxist economy/society is better suited for retirees. In Carl Marx's writing, socialism was build on top of a mature capitalistic society where productivity has highly evolved, and ownership has highly concentrated. In his later years, he had doubts that Lenin could bypass the capitalism stage in a soviet Russia with large undeveloped rural population, and still succeed with communism. I think history answered that question. China knows that socialism is all about the distribution of wealth to the society ie managing the demand in Keynesian economics. Therefore, China will encourage enough capitalism to generate the necessary weath to provide the supply. The State-Owned-Enterprises (SOE) are a hybrid of the two - a necessary buffer. When supplies go down like now, SOE will splinter off into more productive private enterprises. As supplies go into excess like the last few year, SOE will help cushion the economic slowdown by absorbing unemployment and inflation. This is the reason why China didn't experienced a harsh recession post 2008 and won't after covid-19. That is the strength and resilience of Xi's Marxist economy model (Xionmics) and the essential role that SOE plays. As a retiree who has done his part in accumulating wealth for the society, China's social services and higher quality of life for the average seniors are particularly attractive. yes cpp is insurance that i paid into and OAS is based on how many years spent in Canada after your 18th birthday. if you have 40 years then you max out
