Why Richard Sherman Is WRONG About Lamar Jackson's MVP Case This Season

Richard Sherman doubled down on his argument today that Lamar Jackson should not win his 2nd MVP this season. I play his clip from Undisputed this morning and give my take on why I believe his argument is too narrow. It is not just about touchdowns. Lamar Jackson has more yards than ever and the Ravens are 13-3, the number one seed in the AFC!

Sherman is a trader to Seattle. I'm a Ravens fan too so I can't speak for myself but I can only imagine how it must feel for Sherman to ride the wave with the 9ers even post retirement as if he built his legacy in SF and not Seattle. I mean that would be like if Suggs spent 10 years with us then went to the Steelers and after retirement always wore Steelers apparel. It would be a huge slap in the face to the community that loved him for so long. I give some leeway to Flacco going to the Browns just cuz he is likely in his final year or 2 of playing in the league. Also, as much as I love and appreciate Flacco, he still does not hold the status to Baltimore that Lewis, Reed, & Suggs do. Now if Flacco later in life is completely disregarding Baltimore over Cleveland as far as his career goes then yeah that would be similar to what Sherman has done. Anyway, my apologies for the long rant but I just wanted to put this somewhere in regards to Sherman. The dude is not loyal to those that have always supported him so you can't take what he says seriously.

It’s crazy to hear people give CMC this MVP award like he was better than Tyreek Hill. Where was CMC in those three straight losses against Cincy at home or Cleveland or Minnesota?? He was not a factor. Now he is hurt again, did nothing against the Ravens. While Tyreek has shown impact when he’s on or off the field. CMC is not as good as Henry, bc Henry can carry a team to the Championship game without a good QB, CMC cant do that.

You also have to consider that the Ravens have been leading in every game nearly all of the time, so much so it's historic. They get these leads early in large part due to Lamar making plays and extending drives to get his team in position to score, whether that's from his own TD passes or runs by Gus Edwards in the Red Zone. Having the #1 scoring defense certainly helps. Other QBs like Josh Allen find themselves trailing late in games so they have to throw a lot more to catch up, which will inflate their stats and gain "empty calories." Lamar is so big at making something out of nothing. Just take the Jaguars game and Dolphins game and watch how many times he avoids a disaster and keeps his offense on the field by his incredible elusiveness and pocket presence. Having these leads allows them to be more conservative on offense by running the football and controlling Time of Possession, which also means Lamar probably will not throw as much as he could if the Ravens were trailing a lot more

I think Lamar should be MVP. However, Sherman is a numbers guy, and Sherm is using a historical precedent for his argument. I don’t see anything wrong with what he is saying. He should stick to his guns because that’s his role in the media-a straight man and objective analyst. However, if you watch the ravens games, which I don’t think Sherman has been doing, you can see that something special is going on beyond numbers. Lamar is bringing something revolutionary to the QB position and the NFL in general. There isn’t a stat for bad plays salvaged for 5 yards vs -25. the precision and accuracy of his throws are Montana-like, and I’m struggling to understand why I’m the only one that sees this.

Richard Sherman is so dug in now, he can't back off on what he has said. He'd lose credibility within the NFL Media Circles and with fans in general. He sticks to his guns, sure he is stubborn and wrong, but he wasn't wishy washy. That can't be said by other NFL Analysts who has flip flopped like pancakes over the last 6 years. Some, like Colin Cowherd have changed their tune but at the end of the day, I truly can't recall a single player doubted by so many pundits who has proved them wrong only to have the goal post moved over and over again.

Ravens are 2nd highest scoring team, 9 points behind the Dolphins. That's the stat that explains WHY Lamar is the MVP. Only reason Lamar's stats aren't higher is he had lead the Ravens to huge leads and Ravens just run the ball (often using read option with a fake by Lamar) to run out the clock in the 4th quarter instead of throwing to make up a deficit like most teams do for at least some games. Plus, Ravens have fewest interceptions of any team in the entire NFL.
