At this point you can’t have one without the other. And tbh there was a lot of burnout (at least from my end) with rehashing old characters as new actors and characters. The stakes felt extremely low even though they were working up to Kang, I didn’t have a connection to or care about any of the characters from the multiverse saga save Spider-Man and Deadpool.

I actually think having Doom as the big baddie is better than Kang. Dr. Doom is a terrifying villain, especially if we're talking God Emperor Doom level power. And I think that he'll get introduced in the Fantastic Four movie - maybe as a stinger/credit scene, but I just don't think you can have a Fantastic Four movie right before Doomsday without introducing him there, since his origin story is so tied to the Fantastic Four.

In the comics, marvel has kept dooms true face a huge mystery. Every time doom unmasked outside of the original secret wars, we only ever see peoples reaction to the horrifying scars of his face, but we never actually see it. It is extremely rare to see doom face. I think in this regard, it will be quite a challenge for an actor kind of like in the Mandalorian show. Robert Downey Jr. is an excellent actor, and if anybody could pull off a character that you never see the face behind the armored mask, it would be him.

I think the anchor being concept will apply to the main MCU, and after Secret Wars, he'll come around to being Iron Man but play it as Superior Iron Man. It's a Double Bait and Switch. Evil Stark Doom will Doom in Doomsday. Then Ironman comes outta nowhere and smashes ESDoom. Helmet pulls back on Iron Man and reveals RDJ Good Tony Ironman is back. Then Tony says, "That's not the real Doom, but he's coming and we need to prepare" Evil Stark Doom sets up the return of a good RDJ Stark Variant as well as sets up VVDoom. RDJs Doom is Evil Stark Doom, not VVDoom, if they say he's Victor they are lying.

I've seen other people saying it on other videos, but I'll say it again. This is either the dumbest and most creatively bankrupt decision they could possibly make or the most unexpectedly brilliant decision they could have possibly made. It's either or with no room for nuance in-between. It's undeniably desperate, but low key unbelievably ballsy, and I can't tell if their confidence in this decision means that they still think the audience will just swallow anything they give us or if it means they know they have an absolute gem of a story that'll sell even the hardest skeptics on the concept. The fact that I can't tell which one this is has me intrigued. I don't know if morbid curiosity is the emotion they want to be eliciting right now, but for better or worse, they certainly have my attention.

For clarification per John Campea, Russo brothers are in fact getting paid $40 million per movie. $80 million total. RDJ is getting “substantially more” than the Russo brothers pay. John said inside people told him RDJ will get $100 million per movie which includes points (back end revenue from how well the movie does) which gets him there. Either way, Marvel dropped that bag off!

I love RDJ as an actor. I think he did a great job as Tony Stark. He has done many other great movies. I really don't like them casting him as Dr Doom. Either he's a variant (which apparently he won't be) or he's an original character (which apparently he will be). So, are they going to have the Avengers think it is Tony? Or will he have so much make up on that he will be unrecognizable? Either way, I don't see why they are bringing him back. Because people know the actor? Also, the fan reaction (from what I have seen) has been pretty mixed. I understand replacing Kang with Doom. I just do not understand bringing back RDJ (which only makes the movies MORE expensive, which puts pressure on them to do really well). If they spend $300 million on production and let's say another $150 million on marketing, they will have to make almost $1 billion to break even. We will see, but this does not get me hyped or excited.

This casting was not for "comic purisists". This is for mom, dad, auntie, uncle, grandma, sister, brother, friends who dont know anything and dont care about comic accuracy and its a great choice. Combination of his ark reactors and the infinity stones transforms him into Dr doom from end game multiverse, would have been best way to do that...so he's all dead in end of endgame and they take his body to somewhere he starts to come back to life' ...so his armor like binds to his body somehow and gain's tons of different infinity power's without the stone's...in surprise ending another great mystery actor shows up as caine and defeats Dr doom.

So many popular actors are challenged by their notoriety when moving from film to film-"Oh hey, that's Robert Downey Jr. taking on Sherlock Holmes..Tom Cruise doing Jack Reacher ( Tropic Thunder being a great example of where both actors wildly succeeded in remaining unrecognizeable ). It's one of the strongest arguements for casting unknowns-coming in fresh, they're ideally positioned to lead solely with the power of their acting skills and inhabit their role in a way that makes that portrayal uniquely their own. The challenge here is for Downey Jr. to disappear as Tony Stark / Iron Man and emerge solely as Victor von Doom, whose mask is literally seared into the terribbly scarred flesh of his very face. Doom's refusal to pursue any procedure for healing his facial wounds as a matter of principle is a singular hallmark of his identity. Unlike Stark, who has a recognizably attactive face and life outside of his body armor, the nefarious Doctor considers himself to be totally "maskless"-his mask IS his true face. This is the one singular aspect of Marvel's most heralded villain that I hope they honor without compromise. The consistent reaction Marvel's fan base longs for, myself included, is an effortless suspension throughout these upcoming films in ever thinking for one moment, "That's Robert Downey Jr. up there again". We continually want to be totally swept up, from the opening to closing credits, by Doom himself-we need Marvel and Downey Jr. to obliterate that looming kiss-of-death recognition factor and allow him instead to remain free and unfettered from the onerous workings of Hollywood's star making machinary.

The current Marvel superheroes probably won't even *realize* that he looks like Tony as A) Doom never takes off his mask and B) If his mask does get removed, his face is supposed to be horribly scarred. I don't see there being a moment in either movie where a character goes "Tony?!" due to these two things.

There's no way that his voice isn't familiar, also there have been versions of Doom without the mask and ones that are not horribly scarred. In some versions he has only a small imperfection and he considers that hideous. You can borrow from any of those. Also it's not like Marvel hasn't done their own thing. You don't get RDJ if you don't want to show him off.

If you give it some thought, its just like how so many actors have played Marvel charcters previously just to come back and play a new MCU character. e.g. Chris Evans Johnny Storm then Captain America. Just backwards RDJ as Victor Von Doom really warms my cold dark heart.

It's a bit different than that. Chris Evan as Johnny Storm wasn't some signature role that people automatically associated him with because he had been playing the character over several movies for more than a decade. It was also a different studio and a different time. RDJ here is going to be very different. He's too intertwined as Tony, which makes sense considering they they cast him and made the reveal in such a public way. I'm pretty sure he's going to be a variant with a different name or however new way they're going to do it, but everyone will see him as evil Tony Stark.
