Of course, the best protection against drones and other flying objects is the capability to shoot them down before they hit their target. That's exactly what the Swedish Strv-122 and its smaller cousin CV-90 are equipped with: a module that uses radar, laser, and optics to detect, lock on, and then automatically fire a standard machinegun, shooting 2, 4 or 8 standard NATO 7.62 rounds at $1 a pop with millimetre precision. So, as the British guy mentions at 17:20, that's the preferred way. Only Swedish Hägglund already did it years ago.

It is funny how even western "experts" do not understand the Russian fighting style. The "Turtle tanks" are dedicated mine clearing tanks improvised for drone warfare, these tanks are usually older T72s and they are less protected than the fighting ones as it's job is to clear a path for the main force in a minefield. They are usually driven by an Engineer detachment within the Armoured formation, their job is not to stay and fight and they use their armament only when they have to defend themselves, and thus not being able to traverse the turret is not a big issue. Also the tank getting exploded by mine was funny as during the clearance process the tank has to maintain a certain speed, however, it could have been a IED instead of a mine.

Sending troops on motor bikes is also ridiculous. Maybe the north Korean dwarfs can give the russians some lessons😂😂😂😂

😂😂😂I don't think you understand the word style. A fighting style is a proven and well practiced way of fighting that is implemented across all units. A fighting style is not old sheds on top of tanks putin claimed are the best in the world because a $100 drone destroys them. The only fighting stylevrussia emulates is their ww2 style, unfortunately for russia it's not 1943 and they are getting seriously punished. Ukraine falls back sometimes when a town is totally destroyed as they prioritise men and equipment over a few metres of land. Russia still has under 19% of Ukraine which is less than they had week after the invasion started. 2025 will witness another break up off russia, little putin was desperate to re create the USSR but instead is destroying russia.😢

On one hand: more protection. On the other hand: you can't move your turret and it's also added weight. But I guess they are more of a bait than an actual weapon.
@brentchattin60818 сағат бұрын
It seems like this knocks out 80% of a tank's utility. You can only see straight ahead and your cannon has a very limited field of fire because three of four sides plus the top are encased in sheet metal. Especially in a tank on tank battle the extra weight, restricted view by the tank commander, and the limited field of fire from the cannon means an opposing tank can come up from the side or behind and fire at will with no danger of return fire. A few shots in under a minute from a US, British, or German tank will easily penetrate and blow out the sheet metal and pierce the body of the tank. In order to change the direction of fire you have to turn the entire tank, not just the turret, making it less effective or sometimes impossible to assist in assault action. You are giving up a lot of capability for just a little more protection. It might make the tank crew happier but not the generals ordering the assault.
@glenrich-uu9zr14 сағат бұрын
Speed an flexibility are also very crucial factors of a tank, since it is not a mobile artillery. No matter how the armour is well, it must have some corresponding devices can penetrate it.
@davefoc17 сағат бұрын
The more effective the turtle tanks are against drones, the more subject they are to destruction by tank and air attacks because of a loss of mobility and a reduction in the effectiveness of their cannon as a weapon. The tank expert hinted at what might be another driver for turtle tank deployment. It could help soldiers be more willing to go into battle if they think that they are less likely to be blown to bits than the soldiers before them even if as a practical matter they don't actually improve the chances of survival.

Tanks are especially vulnerable in urban warfare, where close-quarters combat and hidden anti-tank threats like roadside bombs, RPGs, and ambushes are common. The use of armoured shells on Russian tanks helps them better withstand these types of attacks. By adding modular armor that can be adapted and replaced, Russian tanks are becoming more adaptable to the unpredictable nature of asymmetrical warfare, where conventional tank tactics may not always apply. The additional armor can be customized for specific missions, enhancing flexibility.

I could see western tanks using a more expensive version of this protection in the form of a large plexiglass/steel dome. Vision would not be as limited and the turret would remain usable. It would only be effective out in the open but that is clearly when these vehicles are most vulnerable to drone attack. A dome could easy be made from a folding series of leaves that could be retracted when the vehicle goes into a tree line.

Zelensky didn't try to prevent the conflict through diplomacy because he lacks honor and integrity. In 2014 there was a coup. Soon after, there was a massacre in Odessa (dozens of people were burned alive). Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. A civil war broke out due to the rise in ethnic tensions. For 8 years the Ukrainian military was indiscriminately shelling civilians living in Donbas. If Zelensky honored the Minsk agreement and pledged neutrality, none of this would have happened. The 8 year civil war would have ended and Donbas would have remained part of Ukraine. War is the ultimate failure of diplomacy. Zelensky admitted that Ukraine had no intention to honor the Minsk agreements. Who didn't want peace? Who advised against the 2022 peace talks in April? Hint: someone visited Zelensky in Kiev at that time. Russia's national security was compromised once NATO began to expand eastwards. Russia clearly stated that Ukraine joining NATO was a red line (November 2021) and unfortunately this concern was never taken seriously. The Russians openly stated: if nothing changes, we will be forced to act in order to defend our national security. Enhancing the national security of one country at the expense of another is unacceptable. The Russians have legitimate security concerns. 20th September, 2021. Ukraine launched military drills with US and NATO. NATO is not a defensive alliance. NATO illegally bombed Yugoslavia (a direct violation of the U.N. Charter). We should never forget what they did to Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq etc. Who blew up the pipeline causing an environmental disaster? Zelensky banned all opposition and arrested a leading priest. Zelensky tried to invoke article 5 under false pretenses. Remember the incident in Poland. Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. Poroshenko said, “Our children will go to schools and kindergartens-theirs will hide in the basements”. Russians will never forget the 2014 Odessa massacre. The whole world needs to know about it. Why was Denis Kireev eliminated? He was a member of Ukraine's negotiating team during the peace negotiations. He wanted to help his country. Ukraine has a hit list. They target artists, journalists and ordinary citizens. Hundreds of children are on this list. 13 year old Faina Savenkova was placed on this list. Pink Floyd's Roger Waters is on this list. Jimmy Dore (American stand-up comedian, podcaster) and Aaron Maté (Canadian writer and journalist) are on this list. There is evidence that Ukrainian troops have been indiscriminately shelling civilians in Donbas (they used petal mines and targeted areas where there was no military presence). The azov troops trapped in the azovstal steelworks in Mariupol used human shields. They refused to allow civilians to leave despite of humanitarian corridors being present. Russia held a proposed cease fire in order for the civilians to leave, but azov would not allow the civilians to leave. Ukraine has committed many acts of terrorism (car bombs and other forms of assassination). Darya Dugina (journalist) R.I.P. The first terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed the truck driver and the individuals in the adjacent car (innocent civilian victims). The second terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed two parents and severely injured their young daughter. I have done a lot of research and it took me a long time to write this comment. I have stated a lot of facts and I have given my honest opinion. I have provided a brief summary of events that took place. In order to explain this whole situation in great detail, a book would need to be written. Hopefully someone will write an UNBIASED book, stating facts and allowing the readers to form their own judgments. Everything I said can be fact checked and verified.

Battle of Krasnohorivka. Russians used the turtle tanks to disable drones, clear mine fields and get their soldiers inside the town without much issue. This after 3 months of fighting allowed the Russians to take the industrial zone of the town and by the start of September they won the entire town now using Krasnohorivka as base to attack Kurakhove which is now according to DeepState UA is surrounded at three sides North, East and South with little hope or chances of reversing the situation in the short to medium term. Imagine how much death and losses the Russians would have suffered in the battle of Krasnohorivka if they didn't use turtle tanks. Tactics and weapons are judged based on their results rather than how well they look. Do the tanks look ridiculous? yes, but do the help solve the fpv problem enough to get the infantry to do their job? yes.
